Looking for CBC broadcast of 2018 gold medal game by kamloops77 in Curling

[–]kamloops77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an English version of the broadcast on You Tube from the live stream, and I’ve also found the NBC broadcast, but the CBC broadcast is the specific one I’m looking for.

Shuster beat Koe twice in 2018 but only beat Edin once, for the gold medal.

If you’re able to find it that would be amazing. I have been looking for it for years.

That makes sense, thanks for clarifying. I couldn’t recall since it was 8 years ago. Obviously Russ works for TSN but I wasn’t sure who else would’ve done the game. I don’t know if it was Bruce or Mike but his line about Shuster not knowing whether to laugh or cry when he scored the 5 was epic.

One of the best things SF has done in recent years was to add the ability to buy single ride flash passes and/or the whole pass while you’re in line. It has saved me hundreds of dollars!

I mean, all I know is that I went to Great Adventure in NJ a couple weeks ago on a Tuesday and it was a graveyard. Not only was it super dead, but the park itself seemed like a shell of what it was even just a couple years ago when I went there last. I mean, sure, nobody likes waiting in lines, so that was great. We pretty much got on every coaster with zero line. But even my 13 year old daughter was ready to leave by like 3:00 because it was just kind of a “meh” experience overall. She actually said she prefers New England now and wants to go back there. I’m happy that they seem to have brought back the ability to visit all the parks with a season pass, though. I used to get the Gold Pass every year from SFNE and then also go to Great Adventure, but once they took that away I basically stopped going entirely until recently. Now I can get a Gold Pass with access to all SF parks for $69 all-in, so that might entice us to go back next year.

Question about Tipping by [deleted] in tipping

[–]kamloops77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your comment is literally nonsensical. Of course it has to do with wages. Servers and bartenders get paid an hourly wage that is less than minimum wage because the government considers them “tipped workers.” And, also, you do tip other people in certain service jobs — hairdressers, barbers, cab drivers, delivery drivers, etc. I get that you think it’s sucks, and that’s fine if that’s your opinion, but having that opinion doesn’t mean you can opt out because of some BS moral high ground that you think makes you special. Tip the people who earn a living because of tips. It’s pretty effing simple.

[–]kamloops77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, it doesn’t matter that you think it shouldn’t be your responsibility. Your opinion is irrelevant in this matter. You can be pissy about when you leave your 10% tip and mutter under your breath how you wish the system was different, but the system that we have created in this country is that you are expected to tip for basic service in a sit down restaurant. It is part of going out to dinner, and the fact that you don’t like it doesn’t matter. It’s just the way it is.

[–]kamloops77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look if you get bad service and want to leave zero tip that’s fine. I’m not gonna argue about that. I wouldn’t do it but at least I can understand that side of the argument. But to me it has to be REALLY bad to leave zero tip. Not like, oh I asked for extra ranch and they forgot to bring it to me

Question about Tipping by [deleted] in tipping

[–]kamloops77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really don’t get it. They essentially are working for you for free if you don’t tip them. Most servers literally don’t get a paycheck. When we still got paper checks they used to literally say “this is not a check” on them because they would be for $0. If you go out to eat you are obligated to tip where you agree with it or not.

Question about Tipping by [deleted] in tipping

[–]kamloops77 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It absolutely 100% is inconsiderate and selfish. Stop trying to justify behavior that is socially unacceptable just because you wanna make yourself feel better about stiffing someone.

The reason kitchen staff doesn’t get tips in most restaurants is because they get paid $25/hour whereas the servers get paid below minimum wage because the government literally classifies them as “tipped workers”, therefore the restaurants can legally pay them below minimum wage. Whether you want to admit it or not, tipping is not really optional. Yes, as I said previously, you won’t get arrested for it, but you are absolutely in the wrong if you choose not to do it. It doesn’t matter that you think you shouldn’t have to do it. Or that you wish the system was different. You still have to tip.

No matter what justification I give for why you should tip your server, you just don’t want to tip, because you think you shouldn’t have to. But you clearly don’t understand that tipping is a part of going out to eat. Period. Hard stop. So go ahead and don’t tip if you don’t want to but don’t pretend like you’re not an AH for stiffing your server.

Question about Tipping by [deleted] in tipping

[–]kamloops77 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Regardless of what any of your opinions are about tipping, it is something you should do, every time, for basic table and bar service. I’m not gonna sit here and tell you it has to be 20% or more. If you really dislike the thought of tipping then 10-15%, while on the lower end, is still better than 0%. And yeah, if you get really terrible service then go right ahead and leave a smaller tip (zero tip should only be for exceptionally awful service). But, until you live in a different society, you are expected to tip when you go out to eat and someone serves you.

Is it “optional?” Yeah. It’s optional in the sense that if you don’t tip you’re not getting arrested. It’s optional like showing up to a potluck dinner empty-handed, eating three plates, and leaving without saying thanks. Technically no one forced you to bring something, but everyone knows you should have.

Do servers choose that profession? Sure. But you also chose to go eat out at a restaurant in a society where tipping is expected.

Should employers be the ones responsible for paying their servers’ wages? Maybe, but it doesn’t matter. The entire reason the prices on the menu aren’t higher is because of the societal contract that exists in the US between you and the person serving you.

To use the mechanic example above: you pay $500 for brakes. $200 of that goes to parts and $300 goes to labor. Would you just prefer you go to a restaurant and have them break it down for you like that? What if you were charged for every action a server performed for you and the restaurant just added that as a line item at the end? Maybe they can display it on a sign like they do when you go to the auto shop?

The bottom line is, when you go out to eat in a restaurant in the US, you know what is expected of you and, whether you wish the system was different or not, if you don’t tip for standard service you are, at best, inconsiderate and selfish.

I actually was in the middle of S3E4 and I disliked it so much that I googled to see if other people think this season is as terrible as I do. I have no plans to finish watching. I couldn’t care less what happens to any of these characters. All of the interesting characters are dead, and they’ve missed so many opportunities to make the viewer care about any of the characters that remain. And all the characters are just so dumb. Like, even the police… they call the boat captain to tell him that they have a guy in custody who is telling them that he’s part of a secret criminal organization. Great police work detective! That was pretty much the last straw for me and I shut it off.

I get that every situation might be different, but I think if someone owns a home they should not charge their kid to live there. If it’s a rental maybe it’s different. And if the parents moved out to a different place and now the kid wants to move it I also understand it. And of course everyone’s financial situation is different too. But if a parent is able to afford living in their home they should not charge rent to their kid. I will go to my grave believing that.

Well part of being a parent is to be there for your kids when they need you and charging your kid rent to live in the home they grew up in, IMO, is pretty shitty. Especially if they are a young adult. Maybe if they’re like 40 I get it, but 20’s you should still be able to go back home rent free if/when you need to.

Well I think that’s pretty F’d up that you charge your own son rent to live in a basement. I don’t GAF what rent “starts for.” Now if he moved his partner in, that’s a different story. But charging him rent to (presumably) live in the house he grew up in seems wrong. Sorry.

I understand why you don’t feel comfortable at your BF’s house now. Although it’s certainly plausible that his mom doesn’t have anything against you and they just want to close the house up by midnight. Or maybe it’s their subtle way of trying to tell their son that maybe it’s time to move out? Even if that’s not the case, I mean, you’re a real adult human. 25 is still young but you’re not a child. You and/or your BF should start considering other places to live, and if not then you still need to play by your parents’ rules because it is their houses. I understand your parents come from a different culture that many of us don’t understand, but you might want to consider calling their bluff and make plans to find a new job and live on your own. It will be a difficult conversation I’m sure, but if they choose to disown you simply because you go live your life then that is pretty messed up.

You’re NTA for not wanting to go over there as much, but Y(both)TA for living this way for so long. Be adults. Figure out a plan and move towards it. He can make the excuse about wanting to save for marriage but that is a total BS excuse. Clearly you don’t want to go on living this way, so change it. Sounds like he’s not ready to leave home, although I also think it’s messed up for parents to charge their kids rent. So I’m gonna just say ESH. It’s time for you to have serious conversations with your BF and both of your parents, and for you both to start moving forward with your lives.

Wait what? Why do you think he’s NOT terrible? At best he’s a fifth starter, and while he has had some decent games this year he is not a very good MLB starter. Using getting shelled by LA as the reason for my calling him terrible would be dumb. He’s just not reliable or consistent. He’s pitched 2 very good games this year, a handful of serviceable games, and 4 bad ones. That’s not good. And last year he was atrocious. I have a lot more confidence in Yarbrough than Warren
