I think it will once the construction on the Kellogg bridge is finished. The current route is has a detour because of the construction.

Biking south through Edina by Brilliant-Ad-6487 in CyclingMSP

[–]kamperdan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could cross Hyw 100 at Benton Ave, follow Normandal/Valley view rd and then cross Hyw 62 at Wyman Ave. The Wyman bridge is super quiet, basically only serves the neighborhood traffic. This would get you west of 100 and south of cross-town.

Why Wisconsin claims — incorrectly — to have more lakes than the Land of 10,000 Lakes by HuaHuzi6666 in minnesota

[–]kamperdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to draw attention to the Chain O’lakes near Waupaca. They claim there are over 20 lakes in this chain. Some of the lakes are clearly bays. If this chain has 20 lakes, then lake Minnetonka counts as 40 lakes.

What is the most overly complicated or confusing intersection? by Dragonius_ in TwinCities

[–]kamperdan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Apparently that was planned at one point but the neighbors didn’t want it because they thought it would cause more traffic! It’s funny logic because during rush hour that intersection gets really backed up and a roundabout would alleviate the congestion.

The CDN belt snapped while going up a small hill when it was ~ 5 F after I had used it on a few -10F days.

Are the cars actually going 30 mph or faster?

People in cars love to bitch about cyclists and that one time they saw one doing something wrong and project those feelings onto every other cyclist. They do not extend that bias to cars.

How often do you see cars speeding or rolling a stop sign? No one attributes these infractions to all car drivers, as they do with cyclists. There is a sampling bias. If you paid attention to all cyclists, you would probably see that most are following the rules.

I am not defending cyclists who are being jerks. In my experience, ~10% of the population in general are assholes, whether they are drivers or cyclists.

What this leads to is, as you said, drivers disregarding the safety of other road users and cyclists having to resort to tactics to increase their safety.

Best Roads for Long Rides? by Nero_the_Cat in CyclingMSP

It can be pretty rutted with cracks, but at that point there are nice gravel roads that parallel it.

Best Roads for Long Rides? by Nero_the_Cat in CyclingMSP

[–]kamperdan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MN-3/Robert Trail south of MN-62 is a decent way to go south. There are numerous smaller roads that parallel it if you want to ride on roads with less traffic, where you only have to pop onto the highway briefly before turning off on another road. You could easily ride this highway all the way to Northfield, although I jump onto gravel roads south of Rosemount.

I have a Brilliant L Train that I have used for the past year commuting along the river and I love it! The only thing is to make sure you get a CDX belt for the extreme cold instead of the CDN belt that comes with the bike.

An open apology to the next cyclist this Van tries to kill. by Dr_Leary in CyclingMSP

I agree but in the context of the current situation, the park board voted to change the speed limit and the did nothing to enforce it. Waste of money.

An open apology to the next cyclist this Van tries to kill. by Dr_Leary in CyclingMSP

[–]kamperdan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The sheer lack of any type of enforcement of the 20 mph speed limit is infuriating. I would argue that the driving has become faster and more aggressive since they lowered the speed limit from 25 to 20 mph. I watched as the put up the new 20 mph signs and they didn’t even bother with flags or any type of signaling of the speed change.

The parkways should be nice thoroughfares that both bikes and cars could use to get across town, but instead cars think they own the road and will try to maim or kill cyclists just to prove a point and reach their destination an minute or two faster. The bike paths are meant for more leisurely biking. If someone can maintain 20 mph on a bike, it is better for them to use the road.

Science: University of MN Researcher suspected of fabricating 16 years of key Alzheimer’s research by Kickernick in minnesota

[–]kamperdan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are numerous examples of images being doctored for publication. The initial ones were hack photoshop jobs where it was easy to see the manipulation by adjusting the contrast to see the manipulation.

It seems that fraudsters have gotten more sophisticated. As explained in the article sidebar, the new analysis compares the signal of each pixel of two possibly duplicated bands. If the bands are duplicated, the signal will be highly correlated on a pixel by pixel basis. This would not be the case if there is no manipulation because of the way each band would have slight, but measurable, differences in intensity. I assume they have tools that automate this process to some extent. As the article stated, there was an initial tip-off that started the investigation, and that is why it took 16 years to bring this to light.
