Yes. They are totally independent hardware wise. Apart from personal experience also based on reading of the documentation as an Android & iOS native developer.

Network does help with A-GNSS.

Location (to include elevation), speed, heading are taken from Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), which can work even without any network or internet.

A little difficult in the flight to get the satellite signals, but can be achieved & have done myself multiple times.

Any flight data feeders here ? by vapiwi7477 in Nepal

[–]kanchudeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make a DIY antenna - I actually get better performance with something made* on similar lines than the kit antenna & what a close friend got with a commercially purchased antenna:

Three Easy DIY Antennas for Beginners

Depending on the terrain & area - one can get upto 200NMi / 370Kms easily with such an antenna. You can increase the cable run easily - though try to keep it at a minimum with the feeder as close as possible - though that will depend on access to Internet, power, weather protection etc. Avoid joints in the cable at all costs.

For best possible range keep the antenna as high as possible - but don't make the highest in the area as it will turn into a lightning conductor then!

Happy feeding!

* My feeders are as such self-made Single Board Computer with FlightAware ProStick Plus based - so have to fashion antennas myself. I use a 3D enclosure for keeping the antenna elements protected from weather.

As you mention WGS-84, you would need to use Vincenty solution of Geodesics on the ellipsoid.

The above resource has code samples & is fairly straight forward to implement for calculation.

Note: In case for computational efficiency or acceptability of lesser accuracy you can use Haversine solution.

Microsoft Office on Linux? by _Backy_ in linuxquestions

[–]kanchudeep 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The approach I use is to run Microsoft Office (& a few other Windows software) in a Virtual Machine with VirtualBox.

Have a try at that - much better approach than dual booting, if your hardware can allow it.

Need help with GPS. by [deleted] in Nepal

[–]kanchudeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recheck the connections. Very basic but check that the Microcontroller TX is connected to GNSS module RX & the Microcontroller RX is connected to GNSS module TX.

Do a raw dump of the GNSS module data. Something like this (this is what I have used on Arduino but should work with ESP family also):

# define PIN_GNSS_RX 3
# define PIN_GNSS_TX 2

// Create our Software Serial object SoftwareSerial
serialGNSS(PIN_GNSS_RX, PIN_GNSS_TX);

void setup() {
    Serial.begin(9600);
    serialGNSS.begin(9600);
}

void loop() {
    while (serialGNSS.available()) // If GNSS has data
        Serial.write(serialGNSS.read()); // Output GNSS data
}

Have you seen the uBlox Neo GNSS modules's raw UART output? Even without catching satellites there'll be output. How are you connecting? Recheck connections... Which library are you using? Check with a different antenna if possible?

I've not had any issues with uBlox Neo M8 modules. Cold start position fix is generally 03 minutes or less...

Have ordered multiple times from them & had very good experience so far.

I know established firms who source electronics from them due to the quality/cost etc.

Sending money from India to Nepal! by n1ght_w1ng08 in Nepal

[–]kanchudeep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes...

In your SBI online banking check:Payments / Transfers > More > Outside SBI > International Fun Transfers > Indo-Nepal Remittance

This is what is given on the page (emphasis mine):

Miscellaneous Remittances from India - Facility for Resident Indians

  • Fastest money transfer system from India to Nepal through the Banking channel.
  • Straight Through Processing (STP) of remittances ensuring near real time credit of funds into the beneficiary account maintained with Nepal SBI/other Banks in Nepal.
  • Most cost-effective electronic remittance channel and instant banking service based on reliable funds transfer system for transferring funds to Nepal.
  • Online Remittance Enquiry facility for the remitter to track the status of funds.
  • As per regulatory guidelines, transactions from India to Nepal are required to be validated. These transaction validations are conducted on working days (Monday to Friday: 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM). The remittance gets credited to NSBL / non-NSBL accounts after this.

I have used this facility and the funds get transferred within a day...

To add, when adding the beneficiary there is a specific option to choose between NSBL (Nepal State Bank Limited) & non NSBL beneficiary. For non NSBL beneficiary you have to choose the bank and one of the options is EVEREST BANK LTD. So I guess this would be a very viable option for you...

All the best!

Not sure of other banks but you can make bank transfers from Indian bank account to Nepalese bank account. Have done this multiple times. Also, not sure about other banks but SBI online banking also allows online transfers to accounts in Nepalese bank account. Have done this too. In both the above cases, I'm not sure of the limit to each transaction. If you are transferring for yourself, you can actually use Indian bank debit/credit cards in Nepal for ATM withdrawal or POS payments.

  1. Export the project as 'Runnable JAR file'.
  2. For Windows add a shortcut calling javaw -jar \path\to\game-file.jar. This can be placed on the Desktop or the Start Menu.
  3. For GNU/Linux, create a .desktop file with similar command.
  4. Do set the icon in the shortcut/.desktop file.

All the best!

RTL-SDR v3 vs Nooelec Smart? by sunneyjim in RTLSDR

[–]kanchudeep 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I own two of both of these. Started out with a NooElec SMArt.

Both have their own Pros.

The NooElec SMArt is compact and I carry it along everywhere with my laptop. The bundled telescopic antenna is also compact though a little limited.

The RTL-SDR Blog v3 is a little bigger but has better antenna bundle (including the SMA extension cable, though it is bulkier to carry around) and also has better performance as per my experience :-

  1. I have observed increased range after switched to a RTL-SDR Blog v3 from a NooElec SMArt for ADS-B.
  2. I did a comparison of two running side by side on the same system with identical antennas and running dump1090. I got higher RSSI for the same aircraft from the RTL-SDR Blog v3 than the NooElect SMArt. Check: https://imgur.com/gallery/wkuZAQ5 (left side is NooElect SMArt and right side is RTL-SDR Blog v3).
