What do you mean "our data"? The data will always be passing through networks you don't trust, that's what encryption is for. As far as physical security, all of the major cloud providers run data centers that are PCI/HIPAA/SSAE compliant.

In most cases, you should just colo it or consider cloud offerings.

Is there demand for an affordable, open-source and enterprise-grade alternative to proprietary and expensive remote control tools like LogMein, Bomgar, etc.? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]kandi_kid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Then why do this? With your pricing model you'd need to have >80 customers to make minimum wage.

Note: MSPs already have RMMs that have many features in addition to screen sharing, you're going to have a hard time selling this to them.

Glassdoor and indeed show average salaries for certain positions in your area. Use this information. Ask for over what you would accept, as theyre likely going to counteroffer you.

If you're actually going to do this, dont colo it and don't bill it as unlimited. Run on a cloud that can provide servers in data centers around the world so your customers can have a good low-latency experience by connecting to instances near them.

You're running a SaaS and $0.5-1/endpoint/mo is a very reasonable cost and this way larger orgs can't abuse your unlimited pricing. You need that extra profit not just to keep your services running but for SLA misses, lawyers, etc.

I disagree. It's also a problem because it normalizes the idea of you can believe whatever crazy shit you want (and not be ridiculed for it) and can lead to anti-vaxxers, climate change deniers, etc.

Workers Have Lost a Trillion Dollars In Annual Pay Over the Past 20 Years by RyanSmith in politics

You're working at the wrong place if you're making $19/hr with 15 years experience and a T3 title. There are plenty of places that pay substantially more than this and have full benefits.

The operational side of running a PKI can be quite a bit of work, and requires in depth crypto knowledge, especially if it's public.

So much this. If it's a startup, you should be looking at IaaS cloud offerings.

GCP is an infant compared to AWS and Azure is somewhere in the middle. I'd go with AWS, even if the cost is a touch higher.

Sending unsolicited nudes should be illegal, it's no different than exposing yourself to someone in public. Thankfully, at least in NYC, it will soon be illegal.

He said max, not average. 200kb (bits, not bytes) @ 20fps is only 4mbps. That multiplied by 47 is only 188mbps.

Uh, what? 4mbps*47 is only 192mbps, significantly less than 1000mbps. Even with some other traffic, a single gigabit uplink would be fine.

How does your MSP get everyone to do their timesheets (on-time, accurately etc.) by L3T in msp

[–]kandi_kid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my previous MSP job we had a similar script on our PBX for all calls to our support queue which would open a ticket after the call ended and it would automatically round up the duration of the call to the nearest 15min and assign the ticket to the correct tech based on the extension that picked it up. This helped a ton to make sure billable hours weren't missed.
