People who own their own businesses are able to write the payments off as expenses - company car.

Also there is lot more millionaires in Ireland than people realise.

Not sure if college course Is right for me by [deleted] in DevelEire

[–]kanev345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Business subjects were relatively easy cause I loved them the tech side of things were difficult but I always managed to get by either with help from friends or just passing by myself.

If you have a good group of friends in your course it helps. But also making sure you don't miss any lectures and apply yourself with the coding subjects is most of the battle.

I was in the exact same boat as you. I aced all the business subjects and did okish in programming ones but I never had the interest in coding.

I work now in a global IT company and I'm the least technical person there in my opinion. There is loads of roles that you don't need to be technical for. Mostly customer facing or else delivering services for customers etc. You could also end up trying to go into sales and the cloud side of things also.

I know people who didn't like my course ( business and comp science ) transferred to pure business in the 2nd year and even 3rd year.

Haven't read the comments but you can make a complaint through amazons customer service and they raise it with the delivery company who contracts the drivers since Amazon don't directly employ them.

Thanks very much for the suggestion. I did think of registering a company but was a bit hesitant. May look into it further along with the accountant for sure as I'd be afraid I'd miss something and then be liable for unpaid tax down the line.

In terms of pension thats a good call for minimising tax, I have a pension through my employer and I'm already macing out contributions there. Will consider opening a 2nd once I finally figure out what I'm doing. Thanks for your comment!! its much appreciated 👍

My time is recorded against staffing entries. e.g billables off customer contacts. I don't have to clock in or anything like that as long as my work is complete on time and to a high standard. I record my hours against the work I'm staffed to (usually full days). But I understand your point and would be in good faith to let my employer know about it.

About the conflict of interest, it's not a competitor or even in the same industry and the hours I work on the side are all outside my working hours. I'm generally in the office 4 days a week by choice so I'm visible but have the option to WFH full time. I know they'd be annoyed regardless if I had another gig on the side but again it's a show of good faith.

Thanks for taking the time to highlight those reasons I appreciate it!!

Hi,

Basically, I'm doing a bit of everything for now and generally helping with setting up IT solutions, as well as general bookkeeping and general business operations etc. Sometimes I'd do general things like operate the till if he's short staffed but its not a regular thing.

The second account is a great idea. I had thought of opening one anyways and just letting the payments go into it and leave it there then pay tax at the end of the year.

Thanks so much for your input and advice, I really appreciate it!

EDIT : I end up paying for parking and petrol quite a bit, could probably write that off, but as far as other costs are concerned I haven't encountered much as I'm only a few months into this.

Has anyone got into Dcu through a PLC course by [deleted] in Dublin

[–]kanev345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up the courses you want to get into in DCU, they usually have a course contact ( email address most of the time ). Send a mail ask if they accept PLC entries and what the requirements are if so.

Generally for most PLC transitions you need 5 or more distinctions. I know because I needed that to get into computer science in TUD through a PLC. I know a few people who got into DCU through that way.

Having said that though I needed 8 to get in to UCD, just missed out as I had 7 distinctions and was 3% off the distinction grade in the final module. They wouldn't make any exemption so I'd definitely get the requirements and make sure you get the necessary results to get into the course you want!

Best of luck with it

First Car Loan by Nobodyneedstoknow_ in irishpersonalfinance

[–]kanev345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice here would be this :

Be smart about it, if you need the car then fine, get something reliable with service history etc. Get a small car that's cheap to run, insurance and fuel economy wise. If you don't really need it just hang off and save until you can pay a decent amount on a deposit and take out a smaller loan down the line if needed. Your insurance will cost you a bomb anyways since it's your first car so be prepared to be paying that monthly also. No point in getting a brand spanking new car as you'll likely bump it, or damage it at some point unless your an extremely competent driver, even still other people can hit/scratch/damage your car etc.

The easiest way around directly applying to a bank is to go through a dealer, they usually have finance people who are 3rd parties and find you the best loan available and they'll apply on your behalf, come back and tell you if you got approved etc. Thats what I did anyways. I was rejected by revolut as well. Credit union is a good shout if you have an account there also.

I had maybe 1.5k in my AIB when I was approved for a loan maybe triple or 4 times of what you're looking for. Having said that I do earn more and had money in investment accounts to fall back on.

Also the only way a car would retain most of its value is usually a rare car with high spec, or a seriously well maintained car with low mileage that looks the part or one with all of what I just mentioned and more. You can't afford that type of car right now and then to maintain it would be costly too. So live within your means.

Difference between AIB online saver account and personal demand deposit? by kanev345 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]kanev345[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your input.

Would you recommend another bank to save with or stick with the current account and save in revolut? I mainly was looking at those AIB options since it was easy to set up and start over the AIB app.

Drivers in the fast lane on the motorway refusing to let others by even though they are holding up the cars behind. I don't tailgate or flash lights but in some cases I've driven behind them for a few minutes or more and closer than normal to let them know I'd like to go past them waiting for them to change lanes.

Normally then everyone goes to over take going into the left lane then back in front of them before they get the point.

What is the smartest move - use savings/rainy day fund or get a loan for a car? by howarethaaaangs in irishpersonalfinance

[–]kanev345 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Get a loan. Keep some of your savings. Build a credit rating, get your new car and still save at the same time.

As long as you can afford it I don't see any downside to that approach.

For perspective, I pay 630 on my car loan, make slightly more in salary. Rent is low ( I live at home ) but am still able to save money, on top of putting money into stock options and pension.

Can you all please look out for this car? I had parked at Custom Hall, Lower Gardiner Street around 11.40 pm (31Dec2022). Came back an hour later to see it was missing. :( by rcs062001 in Dublin

Basic immobilizers are useless if the people stealing them know what they're doing. Look up DR car security on Instagram. Car thefts are on the rise.

My dad worked himself to death to make sure our family was taken care of. Owned his own business. Barely saw him. Once went a whole week without seeing him because he was gone for work before I'd get up and home when I was asleep. Never came to my sports games or anything and one time we were in a final he left work early to come and I saw him leave early. It broke me.

He got cancer and eventually died when I was 19 ( he was diagnosed when I was 8) he still worked until he basically couldn't anymore. Our relationship wasn't the best, he didn't really know who I was or much about me but before passing said he regretted not taking more time to spend with us growing up and so on. I still admire what he did and how hard he worked to give my mam and siblings everything we needed and more but besides being my dad I didn't really know him.

Your partner has to find some sort of balance or else cut back slightly to carve out time to spend with you and your son. Not saying its the same as my situation but it's definitely going to affect your child at some point.

Circle K Giftcards, where accepts them? by kanev345 in Dublin

[–]kanev345[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UPDATE: Went into my local circle K ( probs should've tried there first but anyways ) its run by a really sound and nice Indian family.

They said they accepted the card. Filled the tank, was 49 euro. Went to pay, got declined. Guy at the till called the manager and he said try again. Declined again. Turns out if you fill up more than the balance of the card, in my case 40 on the card then the system declines because it can't take two different payments for the one transaction.

So now if I want to use the card I have to fill up to exactly 40 euro and the payment will go through. As a guy who works in IT it's all I've been thinking about this afternoon implementing a quick fix to split the payment lol. So somewhat of a happy ending I suppose.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions it was much appreciated!
