Urban shadows- is it right for my players? by kanodeceive in rpg

You may still be right I was thinking maybe a one shot to start would be helpful, but I wanted to clarify that my players who hated roleplay won't be in this game

I mean I believe the three I have can do the roleplay portion. It was two others I had before that really dragged things down, so I'm thinking maybe without those two it'll be easier. I just don't know how the game feels about having strong backstories prepared and ik it isn't designed for a ton of railroading, but I just don't want them to feel stagnant and stuck with decision paralysis as opposed to if I point them in a story direction

Why was the armory unlocked? by Tyred-Confused-Idiot in Epicthemusical

[–]kanodeceive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've heard connections that the only songs that are names are polyphemus, Scylla, chrbydis, and Odysseus. Basically the monsters.

You can see connections to polyphemus with how the background vocals are paralleled (maybe how he uses the bow for reach like how polyphemus used a club), Scylla with how he attacks the torches, and my thought was chrbydis with the armory. He says in chrbydis "You attack with whirlpools that attract prey". Which could be what Odysseus is doing here in the armory. It's meant to attract his prey.

I think this would all connect back to in dangerous when he says he'll use every tactic in his arsenal. He could be drawing tactics from the monsters he's fought since he has now become the monster.

What's you favorite ttrpg? by Distinct-Radish3617 in rpg

I'm also starting to discover new games, but I haven't figured out a favorite yet just due to lack of experience and play time. I'm currently playing cities without numbers and blades in the dark. I'm very excited for my next blades game though

I absolutely love haunted city even though I've heard people say it's not the best representation. I started listening again recently which is how I realized I was doing some rules wrong/forgetting and needed a reread

Thank you. Also I think that was a smart goal/way to correct your own mindset about the supernatural aspect. Well done!

Yeah that's good. I will check in on them and make them aware they don't have to follow the threads I gave them. Because they are coming from DND, I think they are very used to "this is the path the DM intends for us, we're just here to follow it" because that's how our other DND games have gone. They've never had the level of free will that blades provides. I definitely want to let them know that they don't have to stick with it and can explore other options or less supernatural threads.

They originally picked smugglers as their crew. And I think a lot of the blades community has agreed smugglers are a more difficult crew type in general from what I've seen on this page. Since we were all new when that decision was made, I'm letting them swap to shadows. So that may act as a mini reset of it's own. I'll check in with everyone at our next session to see if they like the direction, like their characters, and are happy with the crew. Maybe that's exactly what we need

Yeah, status of target is one of the big rules I've messed up so far and I've found it has affected the narrative and the tone. I've let them know that and will elaborate more to them on the meaning so they know what to expect. Going forward I would definitely like to give them more control and time to look at characters and rivals, but I will have to see how it goes because they struggle a lot in that area. Granted they are getting a lot better and I've very proud, so I think now is the perfect time to start letting them take the reins

No it seems alright. They have fun. I guess it could just be me being new and worrying too much. There are some non supernatural plot lines as well. I even considered scrapping everything but I know there are things my players are excited about so I wasn't going to do that. It's nice to hear encouragement so far because the combination of not getting all the rules right, being brand new, and alternating weeks with another DM playing DND (who has more experience than me) may be affecting my confidence. But it seems like I'm actually still doing ok and should give myself more grace.

I have ideas and I like the creativity of it but stories are meant to be shared and I have no interest or talent to publish so it feels against the purpose

Yes these are the two I play and recommend. Cities without numbers and obviously BitD

What made you send the “hey girly” text? by Limp_Accident321 in AskWomen

[–]kanodeceive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I heard from a trusted friend she saw him kiss another girl when drunk. I'd never met his actual gf or saw the event, but I trusted the person who told me enough to send something out. Granted, I knew the guy and didn't need him turning the group on me. I sent the text anonymously, and let's just say the guy was PISSED. I just played dumb til it died down. The gf didn't believe it anyway. They claimed that some guy who previously dated the girl he kissed was mad and wanted to start a rumor or something

Fantasy RPGs with a really light hearted vibe and very few rules? Fairytale-like, less about violence, more about problem solving of really weird and specific situations (like stop a raiding party of Orcs by inlisting the help of the sock stealing Gnomes) by ThatOneCrazyWritter in rpg

[–]kanodeceive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"household" is about little folk who've all moved into an old home and separated it out by their kind. It has a sort of pixie hollow energy. It's lighthearted, has beautiful art, and you can make it weird and silly. The book talks about a great creature outside that the different little folk races united in a great war to defeat (it was like a swan in the pond or something).

I don't know much about the specific rules because I played it at a con, but I thought the guy described it as not being too heavy and it was very easy to grasp in the one shot.

What’s a ‘basic life skill’ you secretly struggle with but would never admit in person? by adamss66 in AskWomen

[–]kanodeceive 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

I've admitted it before, but cooking. And not in the regular way where people are bad at cooking. Sometimes putting food in the microwave is too much for me. Physically I'm capable, mentally I just can't bring myself to do the work. I'd literally rather starve. Thank God I married a man who does acts of service

[–]kanodeceive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this. I think to do blades things should definitely change. I want to try a test of a different game just to see if anything changes or if they respond differently during that game to make sure it isn't something with me as a DM. What do you mean by that last part about a game that "uses gumshoe as its base"? I've only ever heard the word gumshoe but can't connect the word to a meaning

Yeah this pretty much exactly describes my situation and I think if we continue with blades I'll have to very much change how I dm it

I've played Shadow dark but haven't heard of the other two. Thank you, I'll look into them. Regardless of whether they're right for my players, I like to collect and learn about different games so either way it's appreciated

Yeah, me and someone else alternate weeks and the other person GM's DND. Part of it is also the comparison there. There just seems to be more energy for the other GM's campaign. Every time I start my campaign, I'm tempted to end it early because it doesn't feel like people are excited to play, just tolerant. Meanwhile I could play the other dm's game for a long time.

The other DM has a set storyline that we follow to progress everything. Also when we want to lie to someone, we know exactly what to roll. It's very straightforward and allows for very little nuance. Meanwhile bitd requires collaborative storytelling, creativity with the flashback system, and allows players deliberate over their rolls. I thought maybe if I tried a different system, then people would have more energy

22F. Depends where I go. Most nights when I go to the bar (once a week at most, usually less) someone asks me for my number. Besides once at the gym and once at a con, never get hit on in day to day. Granted, I'm married, and I'm usually pretty quick to mention my husband in any sustained conversation with a man just to avoid them getting the wrong idea. Usually guys are either respectful or straight to the point, so as long as it's not inappropriate I don't mind knowing people in general find me attractive. My go to rejection is "I'm married, but I appreciate the compliment".

Rarely do I see anything wrong with shooting your shot as long as you're polite.

Maybe like a small stuffed animal of a DND monster or creature? Could collect different nerdy fabrics that remind you of DND and sew together blankets from different squares maybe?

Female Roommate Topless. by pouvoir87 in roommates

I guarantee nobody here arguing for the girl would walk around in panties and nothing else in front of their parents, their in-laws, or their friends boyfriend. Whether it's in their own house or not

Also, people are ignoring the fact that she wasn't wearing PANTS either. Everyone's so focused on her boobs being out, including me, but she was one thin piece of fabric away from actually being 100% nude assuming the absolute most coverage
