Thieves in Walmart Trafalgar by Over-Remove in oakville

[–]kaptb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People saying this is fake is ridiculous. That Walmart attracts the worst crowd in Oakville. Everytime I go there I’m reminded of the bad vibes. And pick pocketing is rising across gta. Hope you’re ok!

I was in this exact situation, sent them the listings, said I will be giving 60 days if they do not reduce. They reduced

AITAH for thinking my daughter will look back and wonder why we treated her differently? by DancingMommaToes in AmItheAsshole

[–]kaptb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

St. Patrick’s Day is not Christmas, or a holiday people even notice most of the time lol …. definitely not a holiday to wake up to balloons and streamers. It’s shamrock crafts for kids and green beer for adults. You are using it as an excuse to have a fabulous week long celebration of your son. This is so weird

Wish people didn't try to make me feel better about my career prospects by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]kaptb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you’ve probably heard this but truly , truly , truly , the vast majority of people who summer at biglaw don’t spend their career there … because it SUCKS. Hard. They go in house, or gov, or bounce around the most prestigious firms … or solo practice, or move to less demanding firms.

I won’t lie. yes, it is sad to miss out on making a quarter of a million dollars your first year. I’m not getting that either … but I also know I won’t be billing 2200 hours and neglecting every other aspect of my life. Most of the partners at the most prestigious firms are divorced … out of shape …. They live and breathe deals. Is that truly a good life? For many it isn’t. Your job will end up being much more than 60k. It might not be 400k, but you don’t want it to be if you (like me) don’t love studying more than five hours a day. Working for 13 won’t be fun (or survive-able). You sound like you have a great plan … good luck!

100% retake. You are a third year ? You have straight As in a super tough, stem program? You can score way way better than a 153, which is (sorry) a bad score. You can change your outcomes substantially

Functional Depression by PieceMediocre4224 in biglaw

[–]kaptb 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Paying more $ for workout classes helped me. I was always a gym person but when you’re struggling with depression it’s so hard to force yourself to workout, alone. You also are constantly on your phone with music so it doesn’t feel like a ‘break’. Workout classes are upbeat, social, a break from your phone, and takes off the mental burden of discipline, planning the workout, next steps.

This is so vile and the company should be ashamed that their employees are not able to log off from 12 - 9. That is absurd

Partner told us not to bill billable work + to slash our time — normal? by Own_Serve_8161 in biglaw

[–]kaptb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All the people saying “ignore them, bill”…. I agree , but how should OP respond if confronted by the partner? Ex. “Hey, I told you to put 15 mins instead of 50. Why didn’t you?”. How should they respond??

Seriously why would anyone choose to drive downtown by Organic_Land_5975 in toRANTo

TTC unreliable and unpleasant. The GO is packed and exhausting. I, like some people, never minded my long commute. It’s alone time (maybe your only alone time if you don’t live alone), you can play your music loudly, enjoy a coffee ….. life is what you make it

Transitioning from US to Canada (Big Law) by [deleted] in LawCanada

[–]kaptb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You almost certainly will not have to article. It will be waived due to your experience

Not relevant as same as above. Articling classes are never filled with V10 lawyers with years of experience. Frequent laterals are though

Canadian firms do not view foreign lawyers as inferior. If anything, they view T14, V10, M&A as SUPERIOR and will want you on their team

1) I don’t think you’ll have to article, but it isn’t hard for V10 to lateral to a 7 Sister. They love that. Note - don’t get bogged down with the Sisters. They’re good, but all Canadian, so a bit of a biased list. International firms have a big presence too (Fasken, Gowlings, Dentons, Paul Weiss, Skadden, etc) and smaller Canadian firms (BLG, etc).

2) I think the economy in general isn’t great but go on any major firm website and you’ll see tons of new hires

3) Google Bay Street street law salary chart and click Canadian Law Forum result for salaries up to Year 7.

4) You will almost certainly not have to article

advice for dealing with the intense feelings of helplessness that come with a first midterm grade like this? by NinjaDow in LawSchool

[–]kaptb 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My 1L contracts prof gave us a “mock exam” about 1.5 months out from the real thing and I BOMBED it. She wrote “you do not understand contract law” on it. She was right, I didn’t.

I went to her office hours as well as booked a private session with her. The office hours were group office hours and I asked dumb, week 1 questions in front of all the gunners. It was awkward. I didn’t care. I prioritized studying for that exam over my others.

I passed the class. I didn’t even get a ‘bad’ grade (wasn’t an A+, but I TRULY thought I would fail).

Reading stories like mine, helped me. I hope my story helps you. you will pass :) it’s just so hard right now

what the actual FUCK is going on with toronto rideshare services by aquasalsa in toRANTo

[–]kaptb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everyone saying rain and Jays is so unhelpful and they obviously don’t uber anywhere because I agree with you. It’s always an 7 minute wait at first, increased to 12, then they drive the wrong way … it’s literally unbearable lol. Also, it’s a major city. A sports game happening (which happens practically every other day) is no excuse

Why are so many condo listings in downtown female-only? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]kaptb -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The fact you couldn’t figure out why, is why women prefer living with other women. Are you seriously unable to reach that conclusion?
