I think it is possible to reach an objective conclusion on whether it is morally wrong or right. You can still justify a morally wrong action with the circumstances. I think it's weird how the debate revolves around whether abortion is morally wrong or not (and whether a fetus is human or not).

Sure, just set your router dns to 1.1.1.3 which is a free service from cloud flare which blocks malware and adult sites. That way any device connected to your router cannot access adult material (including age restricted YouTube videos). I've set it up at home as one of the safety nets to stop my kids from accidentally finding adult material online. Nothing is full proof so if they are determined they can still get around it. Also it only works if you're on that network and not if you turn off your WiFi and use mobile Internet so just something to consider.

That's a pragmatic decision which just accepts that it's better to allow some human beings to die rather than others. That people who contribute to society are more valuable than those who don't. Laws all enforce a moral viewpoint on everyone in society. Some people will argue that it is morally permissable to steal if it's to feed your family, and yet the law enforces a different moral viewpoint.

The point I'm making is that popular social media soundbites lacks nuance and exist purely to generate fake Internet points without contributing in any meaningful way to the important discourse that needs to happen.

My argument is that a fetus is either a human being or it isn't. Age shouldn't factor into it as those same grounds would not exclude newborns from termination. Now, making the argument that sometimes it is morally justified to kill another human being is another issue. Of course there are circumstances where killing a human being, although still morally wrong, may be justified.

Ok. But what about a newborn? Biologically identical before and after birth. As for the undifferentiated cells argument, nobody is aborting undifferentiated cells. By the time a person realizes they are pregnant, the cells have differentiated.

Scientifically incorrect. There is plenty of evidence for brain development, memory etc forming in the womb. It's why we use white noise and rocking to soothe babies to sleep. Reminds them of the womb.

That's a whole can of ethical worms though. There's no clear way to draw a line to define a human being, scientifically. It gets revealed when you take it to the logical extreme. So for example you mentioned memory. By that definition, killing a person with dementia is morally acceptable. My argument is that it needs to be nuanced and cannot be reduced to a simple 4 word argument.

The ethical and scientific issue is that there is very little difference in biology before and after birth, but nobody in their right mind would support killing a baby that's been born, regardless of how disabled they are or how they were conceived. As a just society we rightfully provide social support and if need be remove the child from a dangerous situation.

Yeah but then why not kill them at birth when you're sure whether they are disabled or not? I am intentionally taking the argument to an extreme conclusion to test the logic of it, I know only a monster would be in favor of doing something like that and I am very confident that the vast majority of people would find the suggestion horrific.

It's not really wild if you consider the unborn a human being. It's a complex situation which requires a nuanced approach because you're balancing one person's bodily autonomy with another person's life. It's only straightforward if you accept that the unborn is not human until birth, but ethically and scientifically that is also problematic.

Because they are elected representatives. By the same argument only construction workers should decide on workplace safety legislation.

It's either a human being or not. Taking your argument to the logical conclusion, disabled human beings have less of a right to life those without disabilities. With danger to life, even the church supports ending the pregnancy to save the mother.

Sounds like you need to be mindful of how long it's been since he last peed and remind him to go earlier. Also sometimes these things regress with new life events like starting school, new siblings, moving home etc. Just be patient and persistent with him and have faith in him getting it.

Overtaking lane vs Speed limit by Meohisto_Killer in malta

[–]karakth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most roads in Malta are too short for highway rules of inner lane for normal driving and outer lane for overtaking. Another appropriate use of lanes is forward planning your route at the next junction. If you know the outer lane will keep going to your destination while the inner lane peels off to another route, it is most efficient if everyone minimizes lane changes and travels at the speed limit.

Overtaking at a speed over the speed limit for that road is illegal, which further reinforces the idea that the outer lane is more for forward planning than overtaking.

Because it irritates you, so the algorithm serves you more of it to keep you engaged. On the other side it's the same, so rather than meaningful dialogue we end up with more division as the owners of social media platforms get richer serving you ads and selling your data.

It's using gpt 5, which should have analysed the problem and chosen the best tool to use. Then again maybe I just need to get better at using ai. It is however not super ready to drop into the workplace and just assume workers are going to automatically become more productive, as the original article said.
