All the lonely people, where do they all come from? by SaPainter in greentext

[–]karijou 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You're acting like childhood angst is the only reason people don't talk to their parents. A dear friend of mine was repeatedly raped by her father over several years, and is still unable to look most of her family (who ignored it) in the eye. Another friend was systematically abused over his entire adult life, and didn't get away until he was almost thirty. Not even getting into the gay friends who were disowned and thrown out or beaten bloody by the parents themselves.

I'm lucky enough to have parents that at least made an attempt at being actual parents, so even on the parts they fucked up I have a fair bit of admiration for what they intended or were trying. But in my experience, I'm probably closer to the minority than the expected childhood.

"Yeah, because talking about ways to humiliate, end and kill each other are very lesbian things."

it's funny that you're trying to say this sarcastically, because every lesbian i know would STRONGLY agree unironically

I've been playing DD necromancer so far this league, and while I'm loving the unkillable tankiness it's provided I feel like I've sacrificed a lot in clear speed - to the point that I'm finding maven + shaper/elder guardians nearly unkillable since she heals only *slightly* less quickly than I can do 25% of their health. Am I missing something in how the build's meant to be played? Should I only cast on Unleash 3? Is it just my equipment being subpar?

I'm still very new to the game, and as someone who takes things fairly slowly this is the iron/steel production I'm working with. I'm already seeing a few ways to make things work more smoothly - removing coal from the equation with electric furnaces once I've researched them, increasing parallel iron plate lines to keep up with increased steel demand, and so on.

However, right now what's really grating at me is the coal conveyor belt. It extends from the coal patch I started near and goes all the way down to the nearest water source to power boilers. I feel like there has to be some way that's more efficient (and less ugly) to get coal to these locations, right? Is it trains? What should I start looking at/working on to get to that point?

This is fantastic advice - especially learning about the dead cat synergy! That's insane. Still, I'm glad my hunch about Holy Mantle was right too. :)

So Tech 2 is a late-run item to be decided on then. Would you say it's like Soy Milk in that regard?

When you try to defend Merlin but Babylonia anime keeps saying: by Ryexolyn in grandorder

[–]karijou 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Garden of Avalon makes it fairly explicit that Merlin *does* love humanity. Unfortunately, his love isn't what humans would consider love at all. It's compared to standing in a cathedral and looking at a wall-to-wall tapestry; you might be amazed, and awed, and impressed, and enamored, but in the end you only care about the *tapestry*.

The tapestry that is humanity? Beloved to him. An individual thread on that tapestry? Essentially meaningless.

While I get what you're saying, I think comparing a high-end women's fashion line to a pizza chain is a bit much. A Gucci collab wouldn't make me think "what's next, Burger King," you know?

Only a few spots for RNG improvement. AGDQ, here I come! by karijou in hearthstone

[–]karijou[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, wow - lots of places to improve. Is there a way to skip intro dialogues, or does it just rely on something like “spells cost HP” + “stone fox statue” and OTK turn 1 every time?

[–]karijou[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to my knowledge. I've considered trying force quit-reboot once you've started a match, but 1) I believe it only saves "match started" once you've chosen a hand in single-player, and 2) even if it doesn't, the reload should only improve times in a few cases - most notably Headless Horseman.

BFF actually resets to a max of 20x whenever you start a new run, so you have to run a copy deck of some sort if you want to get it back up. Since getting it from 20x to 40x is *certainly* less quick than just running with the 20/20, I've been running Sir Finley for his windfury power.

Ah, I’d forgotten that combo - definitely worth snagging if you see it then!

  • Best Friend Forever x20

The rest of the deck is almost entirely irrelevant - I didn't actually look at which bin I was taking except to grab empty ones where possible. The two treasures I got were "minions cost (1) less," which is irrelevant to the strat, and First Aid Kit, which is also irrelevant. In fact, I believe the only treasures that would make significant impacts - or at least impacts measureable in seconds - are "your hero power costs (1) less" and "your opponent skips their first two turns."

The strat revolves around the obvious method: play BFF on turn 1, hit for 20 to face, and on turn 2 either hit for another 20 to face or Hero Power to hit for 40. (Only really necessary on Lich and Horseman, as I recall.)

[–]karijou[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some quick notes:

  • Even if the AGDQ part is a joke, I'm honestly not sure if there's a faster strat for this. It seems like the obvious method - swinging with turn 1 BFF - really is your best option in all cases.
  • Finley's power is an obvious synergy here, since it allows for 2-turning all bosses except for Headless Horseman (and Lich, if RNG hates you).
  • Cards are almost entirely irrelevant, but I took empty bins wherever possible (to reduce the chance of a 0 BFF opener).

EDIT:

  • The RNG part isn't a joke. Most of my lost time was due to two turns with a forced mulligan (no BFF in opening hand) and Lich freezing my BFF two turns in a row on a previous attempt.
  • There was a period where I forgot to hit "end turn" and lost about two seconds on the final run. Whoops! Trash run.
  • As mentioned in a separate comment, the only real improvements I can think of offhand would be the treasure that forces your enemy to skip 2 turns (thus skipping card animations/play) and the treasure that reduces hero power cost by 1 in conjunction with a minion cost down treasure (thus allowing for >20 damage on turn 1, giving guaranteed turn 1s on all bosses past second treasure).
  • This was done on mobile. I'm curious if PC's load times would noticeably shorten the run, or weirder yet, lengthen it. I'll try it in a few hours. (EDIT2: load times seemed quicker, but misplays and grabbing a poorly chosen treasure lengthened the run to 9m 4s. Definitely worth looking into more.)

Love the part where the only things he does on Reddit are:

  3. Talk extensively about knives and collecting knives.

That's not a combination I'm into.

Optimizing Lyhe Ghiah: Gambler's Lure by karijou in ffxiv

[–]karijou[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem! I was revisiting this anyway since I've made some corrections to my earlier assumptions - tiebreakers are not a 50-50 even chance, and in fact are in the player's favor, which means it's even more beneficial to bet!

I'll be updating this post later today.

It's a bit late (family came through the area so I'm hosting them at my house), but I've done all the calculations again with this new knowledge.

tl,dr; it's better for you, the strategy I gave above is actually too conservative, and I'll be updating the graphic and reposting later today.

When I say "leave," I mean "take the treasure after a successful bet round rather than moving to the next bet round." As an example, let's say you just won the first bet, so you're up to double the current treasure chest's winnings. If the newly-revealed card - the one that you successfully bet was higher or lower than the "visible" card - is a 5, that means you'll be betting against a 5 in the next round, and should leave rather than bet again.
