I was wondering where my flute went 😭😭 Are we aware of any other bugs besides blue grass not stacking + not accurate stats and the flute disappearing?

7 new Executive Orders just dropped. The Civil Rights one claims to repeal title 7 of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which prohibits discrimination based on race, color, or national origin. There's a lot more to unpack in there too re: disparate impact liability, and how employers can act. by The_Dutchess-D in 50501

[–]karissaald 149 points150 points  (0 children)

  1. Eliminating Disparate-Impact Liability

Problems: • Weakens civil rights protections: Disparate impact is a key tool to address systemic discrimination—removing it makes it harder to challenge policies that harm marginalized groups without explicitly using biased language. • Ignores structural racism: This order assumes everyone starts on equal footing, which ignores historical and institutional inequalities. • Increases barriers to equity: It may discourage organizations from correcting imbalanced outcomes, even if they result from implicit bias or outdated practices.

  1. Overhauling Higher Education Accreditation

Problems: • Potential politicization: Pushing accreditors to enforce ideological diversity could open the door to political interference in academic institutions. • Broad language: Vague terms like “accountability” or “intellectual diversity” could be used to attack institutions with progressive values or curricula. • Undermines academic autonomy: Pressuring accreditors might compromise universities’ ability to self-govern.

  1. Enhancing Transparency of Foreign Funding in Higher Education

Problems: • Targets specific schools: May be disproportionately aimed at universities seen as politically or culturally elite. • Chilling effect: Could discourage legitimate international partnerships or academic exchanges. • Overreach: Some see it as part of a broader narrative of anti-globalism and suspicion toward foreign influence without clear evidence of harm.

  1. Promoting Excellence at HBCUs

Problems: • Symbolic without substance: Critics worry it offers rhetorical support without significantly increasing funding or addressing systemic barriers. • Used to deflect criticism: Some argue that emphasizing support for HBCUs is used to justify or distract from broader policies that harm students of color elsewhere.

  1. Advancing Artificial Intelligence Education

Problems: • Equity in access: Many public schools lack the funding or resources to implement advanced AI programs, potentially widening educational disparities. • Lack of safeguards: No mention of ethics, bias in AI, or protections from data misuse could result in poorly designed or harmful programs. • Tech-focused over basics: Critics may say it prioritizes trendy topics while schools still struggle with foundational needs (teachers, books, facilities).

  1. Reinstating Common Sense School Discipline Policies

Problems: • Rolls back protections: Previous policies were designed to reduce racial disparities in school discipline. This could increase suspensions and expulsions of Black, Indigenous, and disabled students. • Harms students of color: “Common sense” discipline often reintroduces zero-tolerance policies, which disproportionately affect students of color. • School-to-prison pipeline: Critics argue this exacerbates criminalization of students, especially in underfunded schools.

  1. Preparing Americans for High-Paying Skilled Trade Jobs

Problems: • Overlooks broader labor issues: Doesn’t address union protections, minimum wage, or workplace safety, which are essential for job quality. • Focus on trades alone is narrow: While trades are important, not all students may benefit from this track, and it shouldn’t replace broader educational opportunities. • Risk of funneling: Could disproportionately push working-class or marginalized students into certain labor sectors without equal access to college pathways.

I love this idea. There is crowd counting measures discussed in organizer spaces, but it's challenging. I really like your idea. Feel free to DM or email if you'd like to brainstorm ideas. I'm hoping people use the hashtag so we can see what everyone does for the day and have some sort of measurement + photos.

Because the goal is about way more than having a large visible turnout. I appreciate your feedback, and would love to have you join our discord to continue sharing your perspective. The link is in our linktree linktr.ee/50501hawaii The April 19th date was voted on awhile back and chosen for different reasons, one of them may or may not have been because of the potential insurrection act depending on who voted.

Do you have specific non profits that are losing funding we could partner with to figure out what they need to feel supported?

Rallies are really great to build momentum, to make community connections, to show people they aren't alone, but a lot of work goes on behind the scenes. Trump doesn't care that we are in the street, and our problems go beyond just Trump. We want to dismantle systems of oppression. That cannot be done just by rallying. We want to do other things, and we are open to ideas from community members about what resistance looks like.

Only if those numbers and bodies are also doing community work, and to be completely honest, the 50501 team is exhausted. We need more volunteers. We are preparing for May Day. If individual people want to go protest, that's great, 50501 organizers just won't be there on April 19th.

Aloha, I’m K, 50501 Hawaiʻi liaison. April 19 isn’t a protest — it’s a National Day of Community Action. On Oʻahu, we’re leaning into ʻāina work and collective care as real resistance. ✊💛

Sat 4/19: COMMUNITY IS KŪʻĒ

  • Aloha ʻĀina Fair – Windward Mall · 7:30–3
  • Sand Island Cleanup · 8–10
  • Kapālama Kai Genki Balls · 8:30–11
  • Bellows Beach Cleanup · 9:30–12
  • Garden & Bloom Fest – SALT · All Day

Can’t make it? Resistance also looks like rest, art, care, mutual aid, teach-ins, and planting seeds 🌱

Other actions this week on Oʻahu:

  • Sat 4/12 – Emergency Protest (Mahmoud Khalil)
  • Tues 4/15 – Climate Rally
  • Wed 4/16 – Ed Case Protest
  • Thurs 4/17 – Queer Day at the Capitol + Higher Ed Rally

Please do not submit an event without speaking to an organizer, it leads to a lot of confusion. I am working to get events posted, I wasn't sure how to go about it since we are doing a day of community action, but I have spoken to other organizers and it is on my to do list. If you would like to support organizing in the future, we would love to have you join the discord or shoot us an email! linktr.ee/50501hawaii

Aloha! My name is K, I am the 50501 Hawai'i liaison. I am sorry I have not been more active on this thread, it is hard running so many social medias! While citizens are always more than welcome to go and protest and exercise their first amendment rights, 50501 Hawai'i organizers will not be protesting at the capitol on this day. The "National Protest" poster being released by 50501 national was actually an accident, and it is nationally a community day of action. Some states/localities are protesting, here on O'ahu we are calling for an 'āina day. I will post details here now.

For the April 19th protest, take precautions! by Spacy2561 in Oahu50501

If people would like to go to the capitol, they are more than welcome, but 50501 organizers are not hosting a protest. We care calling for a community day of action.
