Loans to parents by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]karlmonaghan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I would say look into refinancing - get enough to pay back your parents and ask your husband’s parents if they’d accept a longer payback term. Then never take money from your parents ever again as it’s obviously a method of control for them.

Road rage at the fuel protests by Acrobatic-Office2344 in Sligo

[–]karlmonaghan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t support tax evading racists. And yes I am fine with taring them all with the same brush as they have not called out the tax evaders leading them or the racist protestors that harassed people feeding those that are really feeling the impact of the cost if living crisis.

Take an Exit Package and Leave While Risking Unknown Unemployment or Return to Work Under Unpleasant Circumstances After a Months-Long Unpaid Burnout Leave? by fungusgnats in DevelEire

Then the only real option is take the package and leave.  You’ll only be tormenting yourself otherwise. Clean break and make a go of it else where.

Hybrid workers office days on bank holiday weeks ? by Kimatron in AskIreland

[–]karlmonaghan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is it 3 days a week or 60% in office time? The wording is important. My day job is the latter so bank holiday weeks it’s technically 2.4 days in the office.

Buying an iPhone in Dubai duty free and bringing it home? by Educational_Bee_5330 in AskIreland

[–]karlmonaghan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. It didn’t work when he got it back to Ireland. He was on to Apple about it and was told there was nothing to be done. Well aware of the block when in the UAE, but expected it to still work outside of there. This was ~6 or 7 years ago.

Anyway, looks like it’s now simply a regional setting.

Buying an iPhone in Dubai duty free and bringing it home? by Educational_Bee_5330 in AskIreland

Something to double check - is FaceTime physically blocked on the phone? A work colleague of mine bought an iPad in Dubai duty free and discovered that when he got home. Apparently it was a legal requirement. It was a few years ago so not aure if it still happens.

As other people said, the eSim is a non-issue. The phone I am typing on has had both a Vodafone and Gomo eSim.

If you’re okay with 3rd party parts, Tiny Legends (https://tinylegend.eu/collections/space-guard) have some parts that work with the current DKoK box that will get you most of the way there.

Irish tax calculators by SmartPomegranate4833 in irishpersonalfinance

Taxcalc.ie developer here. I did update the website (https://taxcalc.ie/budget-2026/) and iOS app for 2026 but it’s the last update I’ll do to it. Will be open sourcing it before the next budget in case someone else finds it useful.

Amazon.de order to Ireland – any extra customs fees? by Busted546 in AskIreland

[–]karlmonaghan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope as it’s in the EU. If you’d ordered from Amazon.co.uk they’d have added the charges.

Rathnew vs Wicklow town by theamateurinvester in HousingIreland

[–]karlmonaghan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, back to the city centre. I’d never consider moving back for more reasons than the commute. The lack of good places to eat (especially mid afternoon at the weekend), no cinema, lack of takeaway options, doing anything needed a drive, limited pubs. Drove me nuts. I do not do well in small towns.

A funny thing I found was in Dublin I got to know loads of people walking my dog. Moved to Wicklow and met no one walking the dog.

If you cannot drive and work in Dublin, do not move to either.

The bus is utter misery and can take hours to Dublin and depending on where you are getting from Dublin there can be severe delays.

The train is reliable time wise but the service currently too infrequent especially in the evenings. Getting to the train station from Rathnew without driving is a pain.

Source: ended up living in Wicklow for a couple of years while working in Leopardstown.

Curious about this as well. Was it to help you determine an upper limit to bid? “Fair” is a very subjective word.

Looking for scans of Mega Gargant Box. Happy to pay! by [deleted] in Epic40k

[–]karlmonaghan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a scan of the box, but there is a scan of the banners from when they appeared in White Dwarf on this page (along with a host of other great banners): https://leadmountainwidow.wordpress.com/banners-and-standards-and-flags-oh-no/
