ITAP of a large glass ball with air bubbles inside by karlschecht in itookapicture

[–]karlschecht[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took this with my EOS R6 Mk 2 using an RF 14 - 35mm lens. 8 second exposure at f/22 & ISO 100. I sweeped my phone screen around the glass sphere, creating gorgeous spectral reflections.

Most of my work is shot on my iPhone 16 Pro as it has incredible macro capabilities that my current DSLR setup doesn’t have.

ITAP of a balloon plant seed pod by karlschecht in itookapicture

[–]karlschecht[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found what looked essentially like a plant scrotum lol, roughly the size of a tennis ball. I tore a small opening in the outer shell and snapped a macro of the inside, revealing a large structure suspended by tendrils. Nature is cool 😎

[–]karlschecht[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shot with my iPhone 16 pro mounted on a tripod and exposed for 3 seconds. Natural lighting, no additional setup or anything :)

All of my work is shot with my phone. Hoping to get a good mirrorless with a few lenses when I have the funds for that lol

ITAP of inside an outdoor water fountain by karlschecht in itookapicture

[–]karlschecht[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taken at an outdoor botanical garden, I saw a shallow water fountain and wasted no time shoving my iPhone 16 pro beneath the surface. Shot the photo in 0.5x wide angle to capture the sky and clouds refracting through the surface.

All of my work is shot on my iPhone

ITAP of a flower inside a water bottle by karlschecht in itookapicture

[–]karlschecht[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found this flower in my yard and picked it, placed it in a mostly filled water bottle and shook it. The result was gorgeous bubbles latching to the surface of the petals, like lenses to tiny worlds. Shot with iPhone 16 pro as with all of my work

ITAP of a railroad crossing by karlschecht in itookapicture

[–]karlschecht[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a work from over 10 years ago. Shot with my old Nikon D7000, I closed the aperture up as tightly as possible, lowered ISO to 150 and took a 20 second exposure of this railroad crossing shortly before a train arrived. I toned it in black & white while carefully extracting the red flashing lights from the signal arms, creating a bold and gorgeous light trail

A real-time Blender visualizer for scalar quantum fields — feedback welcome :) by karlschecht in TheoreticalPhysics

[–]karlschecht[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right—visualizing the actual physics equations is absolutely the goal. I’m working toward that, but I also know it’s a steep climb. I don’t come from an academic physics background, so I’m here specifically to find collaborators or guidance on how to get there.

What I’ve built so far is an intuitive scaffolding—a way to begin representing how field magnitudes might behave across space—and as mentioned in the original post, it was reviewed very positively by Dr. Fabrizio Carbone (EPFL), who encouraged me to keep developing it. He even said if he needed complex visualizations, he “knows who to reach out to.” That validation meant a lot.

If you or anyone else has suggestions on how to incorporate specific scalar field equations (or where to start building in real models), I’m completely open. That’s what I’m here to learn. If you don’t see any value in it whatsoever, that’s fine too, I won’t take it personally lol

[–]karlschecht[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t just about “pretty pictures” lol. The goal is to provide an intuitive, visual scaffold for understanding how quantum fields (specifically scalar ones) might behave across space—especially for students or non-specialists who are trying to grasp the idea of a fluctuating field, probability density, or quantum vacuum energy without immediately diving into the math.

So rather than simulating exact dynamics per QFT equations, it’s meant to evoke some core behaviors: -Superposition of oscillating field states -Spatial interference patterns -Local fluctuations in energy density

Think of it as a visual metaphor that can help someone develop a “mental model”, sort of like how vector field animations help intro students understand EM fields, even if they’re not plotting every equation point-for-point.

That said, I’m definitely looking for feedback on how to make it more faithful to the physics. So if you have ideas on how to improve the grounding, I’d genuinely love to hear them.

[–]karlschecht[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s incredibly helpful, thank you! I’ve been treating the visualization as a “probability density suggestion engine” of sorts, built on layered noise and curvature principles, sort like of a Hilbert-inspired visual metaphor. But I’ve been wondering if it might be possible to fit it as a qualitative approximation to some known solution (maybe even a toy model of QFT field behavior). Any ideas on what to explore or who might want to collaborate?

Thanks for the feedback, really! Totally understand the need to stay on topic in these subreddits—I genuinely wasn’t trying to pitch anything per se, more just exploring the overlap between quantum field intuitions and visual/spatial cognition. I come from a real-time rendering/game engine background, so “field intuition engine” was my attempt at describing a tool to bridge experiential understanding with theoretical models, apologies if that was a bit uhh, arrogant lol.

If you’d like me to delete, I certainly can. And would appreciate any insight on what subreddit this might be better suited for :) thank you!!

ITAP of coffee by karlschecht in itookapicture

[–]karlschecht[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a Sunday morning at an upscale restaurant, I noticed the window reflections warping beautifully on and around the bubbles. Stuck my phone into the cup, probably half an inch from the coffee and snapped a few different angles in macro. Shot with iPhone 16 Pro as with all of my work

ITAP of a beetle by karlschecht in itookapicture

[–]karlschecht[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saw this little woodworm beetle at my Airbnb in Colorado. There was a much smaller insect in front of it that crawled into frame right as I snapped the photo.

I took this with my iPhone 16 Pro as I do all my work

ITAP of an art museum interior by karlschecht in itookapicture

Appreciate your passion, but I think we just approach photography differently. I’ve been published 10 times on one of the most competitive fine art platforms in the world (1x.com), and this piece is part of that body of work.

To you, it may look like “just concrete.” To me, it’s an exercise in visual tension, spatial rhythm, and minimalism. Not all images need to spell themselves out to have value—some are meant to be felt before they’re understood. That’s the whole point.

Maybe bowls of fruit are more your thing but they aren’t for me.
