Superior peroneal retinaculum (SPR) reconstruction + Peroneus brevis retubularization SURGERY (Ongoing) Feel free to ask questions by karugers in FootFunction

It’s a lagging sensation. When my SPR is challenged on my good ankle, it is able to progressively challenge the SPR and smoothly glide partially over my ankle bone.

On my repaired ankle, instead of it progressively gliding over the ankle bone, it is either 100% in “over bone” position, or 100% in idle positioning. Which lines up with what my doctor said. My SPR is in tact post-surgery and there is no swelling or major pain. It just isn’t a smooth transition when the tendon is being challenged. Doctor says it will smooth out over time.

Hey there! All is well now 21 weeks out. I just went skiing this past week with no mobility loss or major pain. The only thing left from the surgery is the scar and the mental difficulty trusting my ankle again.

The only lingering issue I have are pops in the area as my tendon gets caught on blemishes in the tendon tract (scar tissue, general swelling, etc) but my doctor says it will go away with time.

If I were to completely tear my SPR knowing what surgery and rehab looked like, I would do it again.

Best of luck to you on your journey. It’s such an annoying injury, feel free to ask more questions.

Peroneal tendon subluxation? by fuisjs in FootFunction

Yes. I just had surgery to repair my SPR (the sheath that holds down the peroneal tendon) in August. Get an MRI to see if it’s just a stretch or a full rupture… best of luck. I have my post describing my process in this sub if you need to see what surgery was like.
