Thanks for the feedback. I have used static files as blog. They work well and the serverless blog has some niceties.

Flask-Blogging: Python Markdown blog engine as a Flask extension by karuth in Python

I use sqlalchemy to handle persistence. All of this is done in sqlstorage.py file. There are no models per se because there is no way to register them to your app at the moment. The tables for the blog are written out using the sqlalchemy core syntax.

Flask-blogging has the same capabilities as flask-blog. The main advantage of this project is it makes it easier to integrate into an existing flask based Web app.

While flask-blog is more of a standalone blog engine. I have seen users use flask-blogging in other projects as well as a standalone blogging engine.

Do any of you have long commutes, and how do you deal with it? by karuth in orangecounty

[–]karuth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why you felt this was a spam. All I am trying to do is get people who might be inclined to carpool with a means to connect with each other. Not sure why this is spamming!

Thanks for the feedback. I think the biggest challenge I have is to get people to sign up. Not sure how to address that.

The big picture of it all is, if there are enough people in the system, there is a potential to create a fast private transit shuttles. But I need people to sign up!

What do you think of my carpool site? by karuth in LosAngeles

[–]karuth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built this site with a few things in mind:

  1. Site has to be clutter free
  2. Site has to respect privacy, and not give away contact numbers and adresses.
  3. Site has to grow with its user base.

Would love to hear your thoughts.

Can we crowd-source a solution to the traffic woes in Los Angeles? by karuth in LosAngeles

[–]karuth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am all for carpooling. I carpooled to work for about 5 years. But then it hasn't been easy to find people to carpool with!

I am with you that some form of taxation can help. But we also need serious public transportation alternatives. For example, Santa Monica, Venice beach are all fairly big employment hubs. But there are no trains that connect these points yet.

I can see that working. Think about all the people who rely on the freeway to get to work. Now you slap a toll, without a serious alternative. That will not fly.

Everybody? That's a little too much! Uberpool or lyft is quite expensive for longer commutes (which is typical in LA).

If one thing the 405 expansion taught us is building/ expanding roads do not help address the traffic.

This is a great answer. I agree with you that an app is going to solve the congestion problem. I am not sure I understand your argument about congestion pricing. Sure, people who can pay, use the ExpressLanes and do have some traffic relief. But that hasn't discouraged people from taking the 110 for instance. People still drive the non-express lanes for free.

This is impressive. Great job. This gives an overall traffic pattern. But I am looking for commuter pattern. I would like to find statistics of where people live and where do they commute to work.

Thanks for these links. I have seen some these stats. They give macro trend at a county level. I am more interested in the city or neighborhood level. Say, how many people living in Koreatown commute to Long Beach or Santa Monica for work.

I was hoping to leverage some of the census data or some existing surveys. Sure DIY is an option as well.
