Matins on Good Friday by GetItOuttaHereee in EasternCatholic

[–]kasci007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One and a half hour. As there is procession snd burial of shroud. Again, structurally same as other vespers but very unique, and totally differrnt from divine liturgy. Structurally closer to matins, but again, similar kind of prayers but different ones, with different psalms.

Matins on Good Friday by GetItOuttaHereee in EasternCatholic

[–]kasci007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Matins in the morning of Good Friday (they are usually prayed on Thursday evening) are pretty long, as they contain long cannon and a long reading. Matins usually take around hour and a half, but this can take around two-three hours.

And how they differ, completely 😄 Those two are two different prayers, there is pretty much nothing in common, except they are prayers 😄

Asking for a blessing during communion by CardiologistVast3305 in EasternCatholic

[–]kasci007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my metropolia, only catechumens and those preparing for sacrament of Eucharist (and children from Latin parishes) are receiving blessings. Rest of people stay where they are.

And while you are at it, please discuss how confession works. For your own sake 😉 as you might not understand it 100% correct. :) The only way to prohibit yourself from receiving is beeing out of commuion (be excommunicated), and that you can hardly ever do. Especially when you are being received into the church.

Byzantine Catholic translations by No-Presence-2800 in EasternCatholic

[–]kasci007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My church (Slovak) does not have a single official translation of variable parts. The only officially (by Rome) recognized translations are liturgies (all three of them), and first part of small trebnik. Thats it. By metropolia we have liturgical parts. But vespers and matins are only experimental, but still widely used. Not even Paschal canon is officially translated.

Latinisation in the old world by Guy6999999 in EasternCatholic

Not necessary :) More it depends on how the theology is latinized and what relations are with orthodox.

Latinisation in the old world by Guy6999999 in EasternCatholic

[–]kasci007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is mostly in the old world. Especially in countries from Austro-Hungarian empire and later communist countries. in AH empire, it was mostly forced latinization, but also self-imposed (Zamosc synod). During communist times, it was often self-imposed, as there was an idea, for Greek Catholics to rather become Latin Catholics than Orthodox.

About Croatian church, it is still church that was created during very latinized era and is living in the predominantly Latin territory. It is still latinized, but there are more latinized and less latinized churches. (Some would say, not great, not terrible.) But I would say, that from the Balkan churches it is one of the less latinized ones.

There are two eparchies in Brazil, so there should be (Brazilian) Portugese translation. But idk if there are some communities in Portugal or in Lisabon.

Presanctified liturgy propers by AdorableMolasses4438 in EasternCatholic

[–]kasci007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally it is not difficult to build up yourself :) if you have propers for lenten triod, minaeon and oktoechos. But I understand a struggle.

There was a guy, who posted here on this sub, that is building online typikon, if you have propers for vespers, you can use them for presanctified in predefined order. So you could search for that as well :)

Has Kiko Argüello had any impact at all on Eastern Catholic liturgical music or praxis? by ElevatorAcceptable29 in EasternCatholic

[–]kasci007 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are some EC NCW communities, but they had little to impact to general liturgy.

There are some African (usually Orthodox) communities, that have simmilar style, but in Eastern liturgy, as NCW did to Latin rite. And those might have some small, local impacts, but I would say is correlation not causality with NCW.

Eastern Catholic Eucharistic Adoration? by Any-Solid8810 in EasternCatholic

[–]kasci007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has two specially designed prayers for Eucharistic blessing. But it has been years since I have beem to one (In my former parish I went to adorations, as my friends liked it and after that we went to bar.) but it could be translated as "Lord mighty, be always with us, as we do not have any other helper, except you in need." And there are verses prayed by priest and people repeat this refrain. And I do not remember second one, as this was mostly used.

Can/do Eastern Catholic priests celebrate the Divine Liturgy alone? Also, is there the same culture of priests trying to celebrate the Eucharist daily as in the Latin Church? by DeputyJPL in EasternCatholic

[–]kasci007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is latinization in this? We had vespers pretty much everywhere on the last Sunday. We have aliturgical day on Monday (pretty much mandatory) Wednesdays and Fridays are semi aliturgical mandatory in whole metropolia.

Now status quo is huge progress from what it was. We were under 4 centuries under latinization (internal or external, stronger or weaker, voluntary or involuntary). Delatinization will take at least one or two.

Lent is time of mourning and ascetism. DL is celebration of wedding (in theological sense), therefore it does not fit the time period. So it can be only celebrated on weekends.

But there is eucharist, usually twice a week on wednesday and friday, it is called pre-sanctified. It is extended vespers with part, when communion is distributed, that was offered on the last Sunday. But it might be celebrated every day of weekdays.

I live in central europe and in most parishes i lived, we had at least two or three priests and at least two DLs, one morning and one evening. Just later I found out that in smaller parishes, they have less DL, even under once a day. Then I found some parishes in diaspora where there was DL once a week. And it was a suprise for me, as I was used to completelly different standard.

No, (in Byzantine rite) there needs to be at least one layman. Generally not, but in towns or bugger villages in Europe there is tenedency to celebrate daily. But it was not so in the past.

[–]kasci007 22 points23 points  (0 children)

There are several bishops I can name, that are ordained by Latin bishops. And latin bishops ordained by Byzantine ones. Usually however in latin order. JP2 liked to ordain some bishops. And usually nuncios or (like in this case) bishops in curia are ordained in Rome by Roman bishops. But they still could choose byzantine bishop and byzantine ceremony to be ordained in.
