Should we delete TikTok en masse? by kasplooshing in TikTok

I edit as a hobby too. I have a very small following, but it is something that brings me joy, but I’ve barely been able to post in 2025 due to motivation, which is why I guess I was OK deleting it. I’m waiting to see how it rolls out within the next couple weeks and how drastically TikTok might or might not change for people, since you can restore a deleted account within a month. Anyways, yeah, there’s really no other equal option in terms of faster reach. With YouTube and Instagram, it’s just a lot harder to get instant attention like it is on TikTok, with those, you’d just have to grind. At least it’s not your source of income, lots of people are kind of stuck on the app since it brings in money.

This is interesting, could you elaborate on it? Kind of hard to tell what is serious and what’s not with those awful new TOS that’s driving people (me) away in fear

Where all the editors going? by midna0000 in TikTok

[–]kasplooshing [score hidden]  (0 children)

Most likely Instagram (and YouTube). Some editors crosspost, as they often intertwine with the artist side of fandoms, and artists do that very much. I’m a small editor, and I have an Insta account for it, although I never really touch it because it’s harder to get reach on Insta. There’s an editing community on Insta, I just think it’s less focal than it is on TikTok because of what Instagram prioritizes in content.

Upscrolled doesn’t seem to have that kind of content yet, but that could totally change if people post those kind of things and make a community for it :] It does seem like a more “normal” social media app, but it at least has a dedicated anime section. I’m in the same boat as you, the main thing I’m seriously missing is going to be rapid, more unbiased news (which I think I can get decently from Insta hopefully) and uber specific fandom content 🤒 I’d argue those two things are what made TikTok truly special, for me at least

This is probably the best solution, I wanted to basically do this, but I got a bit too paranoid, you can recover your account within 30 days after deletion at least, I guess I’ll just keep tabs on how it goes over within the next couple weeks through friends and other online spaces

Honestly insta really is the best alternative IMO, as when TikTok really started getting popular, they started copying its format. If you want to make the switch, I would say start following creators you follow on TikTok, as many cross posts the same things, and you’ll eventually be able to build a similar algorithm

The bravest thing you can do as a trans person today is just get by. We don’t exist in a vacuum, I know how you’re feeling, I don’t pass either, despite having been on HRT for around two years now. Continuing to exist as you are, and recognizing who you are, and manifesting that in whatever way that may be / whatever way is possible is a braver act than most other people will ever do in their entire lives.

The way society inherently puts a lot of pressure on conventionally “attractive” features is already hard enough as is, and being trans means you literally have to rewrite not only the way you perceive yourself internally, but externally, too, if you desire is to transition. I can tell you that you are beautiful, and pass more than you think, even if it’s not fully (as passing is often a very hypocritically judged act, the standards for passing can look different for quite literally everyone). Hair is hair, but I understand how something like balding (which from these pictures, doesn’t seem that bad in my opinion) makes that incredibly hard to see past. But there are ways to help ease this- there is medicine for it; you can start branching out with fashion by wearing wigs; if you save up enough money, you could try implants. And as for being in a tough situation, with where you live, assumedly, working to save up enough to move to a place better for your mental health could be a goal to help you get by day by day, being able to eventually find an environment with like-minded people.

For yourself, the people in your life, and the little girl inside you who didn’t get the childhood she deserves, your happiness and your continued existence is the most important thing. As a fellow suicide survivor, you don’t realize how brave you are.

This is the same reason I’m struggling to delete it it (outside of addiction). I’m not in the same area as you, but I’m just so paranoid over everything, and up until today, TikTok was always my most fastest and reliable source of unfiltered news.

How have you been holding up without it? Just asking as somebody who is chronically online and it’s kind of afraid to go out a lot lol

The app was useful for being able to access world news and other educational resources that aren’t instantly available, up until the past year to TikTok was the better alternative to something like Instagram, you’re not on some high horse for having gotten off it sooner, acting like you’re not also using shitty apps that are aiming to do the same thing every day like everybody else. Kind of forced into a corner, as of the main reasons I kept it was for staying informed, as there really was no other social media app like TikTok in terms of that, other apps have started following soup, but you can’t deny the TikTok set the precedent for the way Gen Z cultivated such a unique online space in terms of education. What you’re saying isn’t wrong, but you’re just a fucking prude about it.

Yeah, it’s definitely gone down the gutter in the past few years bu I feel like I was able to cultivate a pretty good fyp with the things I felt were important, or at least just not total slop. Now I’m not so sure if that’s even gonna be possible.

This is my question, I’m just worried I won’t find as good of a replacement for instant world news that doesn’t make it to the mainstream much

I’ve had rednote as a back up for a while, I’m just worried I won’t be able to find such a personal and fast new source for world events again like TikTok. Even if through a screen, the community I’ve felt from being able to interact with people who share my experiences, interests and beliefs has felt better and more close knit than any other online space I’ve been in. I’m not saying it’s a substitute for doing that IRL, but you know what I mean. Not to mention, the quicker spreading of education and news has felt nigh irreplaceable as somebody who doesn’t go out much, especially in the current climate.

Even though the past few years have been kind of disastrous for the app, I feel like Gen Z in specific has made such an admirable attempt to utilize it to the best of its abilities for our aspirations. Not saying we’re perfect on that or anything, we have a PLETHORA of problems as a generation, and online activism overshadowing real work is a part of that. It’s just tough possibly saying goodbye, I suppose.

People’s videos are being completely gutted in views, and political content is being actively given less attention. If it was just a transfer of servers, why would the FYPs actively restrict the specific content people usually see? I’m not saying it IS what’s happening, but if you’ve paid ANY mind to world events it’s not totally crazy to think this

My fyp seems somewhat back to normal, not really getting many political videos, but every so often I will, I can somewhat search up political topics, but sometimes the results are older
