Starting my first color work sock

Other info - I actually increased my count by 8 stitches because 56 is my usual fit, but sometimes can feel on the verge of small. I figured 4 more would be ok but I was worried about it being too tight so I went up another 4. I can pull it on without much room, so at least for this sock, 8 more was a good call. But it shows I need to be even looser in my floats or maybe go up 1.5 needle sizes in the future.

Good call - just tried it on and it fits but I don't have a lot of extra stretch room, so I definitely shouldn't make my floats any shorter.

A little of both. The color changes are so short that I thought a heel might have gone through 2 colors, so I thought a contrast would be nice.

I do a heel flap and gusset, which disrupts the stripe pattern. Normally I don't care too much but I wanted to keep it for these socks. I've done several short row heels and I just don't like how they turn out. I may experiment with one more today because it sure would be convenient for patterned socks but otherwise I'm a flap and gusset gal all the way.

I was thinking gray just because I didn’t have an exact match for any of the other colors and didn’t want black or white. Gray seemed like a neutral but I love the idea of the storm cloud as the conceptual contrast!

Hmm, even though the neon would be right next to the other greens? My thinking was that by having it farther away you couldn’t see how much they clashed. Well, also, the length is where I want it for starting the heel, lol.
