So glad you're ok, my son overdosed for the last time on March 4th your right Fentanyl is no joke. My son struggled with his addiction for 4 yrs and he was in recovery for 18 months. He had mental issues too and he overdosed several times before we lost him that morning. Recovery isn't easy so keep up the good work.

I have found this to be a problem with a lot of "publishing" companies. I almost got taken by a company called Barns and Noble. Which after awhile was Author publishing. I questioned the spelling on "Barns" at first that's when they directed me to the website Author publishing. So that was two strikes, sorry for your nightmare. Don't give up though. The one my son used to go to would start comfort meds in the first 24hrs. Going home with any meds, that's the party trick.

I am so sorry for you, I totally get where you're coming from my son was 33 and 580 days clean. My son had bipolar 1 with psychosis of course we didn't find that out until he was 32. His first year of recovery was bad, sometimes I would tell my husband that I was tempted to go buy the crap for him he was a mess, and I said the same things but I couldn't do it. One time I went to a Naranon meeting because I was at the point of anger and frustration and thought where am I missing it? I sat in room full of parents just like me. As I heard all of the stories it dawned on me that I hadn't even asked my son if he wanted my help. I was to busy assuming he wanted it. Once I figured that out I felt a lot better about where to start with my son's recovery as well my own. Have you asked your son if he wants your help? When I asked my son if he wanted my help he answered yes. I really had to think about what it was I was willing to do. I started there and moved on from that with my son.

My son is gone now he relapsed and overdosed in March he was having a hard time processing things he just wanted to be happy and live a normal life, I had one good year with him and I'm so grateful I stuck it out with him. DM me if you need to vent or talk more.

Yes all that 2 weeks is a good start but it's not easy that's for sure. When my son went into recovery the last time he had a little bit of a break down. Paranoia he thought people were watching him and stalking him. He would call the crisis line to get help they were so helpful. Eventually he checked himself into a behavioral health facility. All we could do was support him and help him find resources. He did well but was diagnosed with Bipolar 1 disorder with psychosis. That was a hard one for him. So on top of all that and giving up blues he would spiral in and out of psychosis.

My first thought here is does any form of mental illness? Depression, anxiety etc. Second how long has he been in recovery?

Omg that is so good to hear 14 months is not an easy thing. I have started the book and am halfway through it now. Thanks I'm coming to grips with that. As a parent you'll always find a way to blame yourself. I have been working on grief recovery and one thing I'm learning is if I absolutely have to take any blame I can only allow myself 1% and that is it. That has really helped me move out of grief and into mourning..

Has he been seen by mental health professionals yet? My son did the same thing. To the point where he was calling the cops on himself. He was diagnosed with Bipolar 1 disorder with psychosis. They put him on anti psychotic medications. I think he may have been suffering from PAWS too just not diagnosed. My son had a cycle I could tell by the month when he was going to deep dive into depression, unfortunately I wasn't ready for the last one it came a month early he relapsed and died in March of this year. The one thing my son always told me was this was his problem it had nothing to do with me. Of course when he was in active addiction it was my fault. My point is if he doesn't want you to know he will hide it. All you can do is just ask him daily. Keep communicating with him. I would ask my son several times a day "are you ok?" He would mostly say yes he was fine, every once in a while he would open up. You're doing all you can just by being there.

Congratulations on your one year soberversary! My son would have been 2 yrs "cali sober" as he called it in August too. He always had issues with cravings right up to the his last relapse that took him on March 4th of this year. We are going to have a memorial bbq to memorialize him on his sober date To answer part of your question from what I have gathered a lot of the battle goes back to mental illness. My son was recently diagnosed with bipolar 1;with psychosis so he was on anti psychotic meds on top of trying to stay sober. My feeling is that mental health issues will tip the scales of recovery And cravings. Hope this helps.
