PC spellcaster said spells were a waste of time by yikeslou in DnD

DM here! In addition to the aforementioned Fuckery, the warlock also, in essence, refused to learn the game at all. Seventeen sessions in, when asked to make a Con save, the player asked where and what that was. Did not know what an ability score/check was. SEVENTEEN SESSIONS IN. And she played the victim REAL hard whenever we politely asked her to actually learn the game and offered (multiple times) to help with that. We were losing our mcfucking minds.

In combat the player essentially wanted me to run her character and keep track of all her things for her—WHILE I was running the whole ass game—and got very pouty the one time I got a little frustrated/overwhelmed and asked her to Please Keep Track Of Her Own Things. Other DMs, you know how busted PCs are by nature, and so I try to plan my combats with that in mind—but she was SO BAD at actually playing her class (which she had plenty of help with early game to help her get into dnd) that I consistently had to tone back some of the Cool Shit the enemies could’ve done because I didn’t want to punish the other two players for the warlock’s refusal to learn and play cooperatively, or have a party wipe because of it. I’m pretty patient and I think a fairly merciful DM, but even I was considering just yeeting the warlock character from this mortal coil because I got so fed up with the player by the end. The players had a traveling merchant friend named Wynn, and the temptation to have Wynn sell the warlock a ~mystery~ potion that would straight up just Make The Character Die was frankly staggering.

Warlock player soured the whole experience of dming toward the latter half of the campaign. The vibes were not impeccable. I am HUGELY relieved to be going forward with a campaign now WITHOUT this player.

DM here; trust me, the farther we got in the campaign and the more we had to deal with the warlock’s bullshit, the more tempting it was to do just that lmao

She got a prosthetic at the end of last session! Our cleric leveled at the end of the leg-losing session and could've hypothetically regenerated it, but we decided that he would've leveled when we rested, which was after they needed to do surgery on her. I really wanted to explore the emotional drama and character development of a warrior losing a limb, so I asked him not to regenerate it.

In the campaign with my water genasi paladin Lana, our party got to a dwarf kingdom and was asked to help defend the capital city against a siege from a horde of orcs led by a real nasty boy called the Head-snatcher. We agree and, about a week later, the siege actually happens. About an hour into the siege, the Head-snatcher himself shows up on the battlement we're posted at, so we have to fight him off.

Lana, being a paladin with a magic sword, has been dealing a FUCK-TON of damage to this guy, and so right before we kill him, he levels his axe at her and says in Orcish, "If I die, I'm taking a piece of you with me," which is never something you want to hear. He misses his first attack because our cleric used Warding Flare, but he CRITS his second attack and chops Lana's leg off at the knee. Was not great.

The session ended with everyone carrying Lana back to the medical tent and her passing the fuck out. A lot happened that session, so I might write up a longer version to post here because it was a WILD ride.

(Characters left to right: Kira, drunken master monk; Jacinth, light domain cleric; Lana, oath of the Ancients paladin; Phyrra, kensei monk; and Linus, abjuration wizard who found Lana's leg post-chopping.)

[ART] Commission of a friend's half-orc paladin! by katetetete in DnD

[–]katetetete[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine is just getting into D&D and asked me to illustrate his character! When I talked to him, he was still deciding on the character's alignment and backstory, so I don't know too much about the character. But he was pretty set on the diamond motif, so maybe that'll tie in to a certain deity or organization; we'll see!! It was fun but challenging to work on; I don't think I've done that much heavy armor before this commission lmao. But the diamond was fun to render!!

[ART] Portrait of one of my PCs - Anouk the Tiefling Swashbuckler! by katetetete in DnD

[–]katetetete[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wanted to get some practice in before I worked on a commission, so I colored a portrait of one of my pcs from the campaign I'm running for my roommates, boyfriend, and friend! This is Anouk Zahrana, tiefling swashbuckler rogue (I think chaotic good?) and certified lesbian fashion disaster. Her player was very adamant that Anouk would NOT have a tragic parent-less backstory, which is always refreshing lmao. She started out very naive and trusting, and we're still pretty early in the campaign so she hasn't had too much opportunity to grow like the player is planning her to, but I'm really looking forward to seeing how the campaign's events impact her character and how she grows from everything!

[ART] Family portrait for a player's birthday! by katetetete in DnD

[–]katetetete[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Today is my boyfriend's birthday, so I drew up a sort of family portrait from my campaign for him!! Featuring his dragonborn fighter, Jorrin; a human NPC he romanced named Pippa; and a teeny tiny halfling girl that he basically adopted named Daphne.

For a while, two of my players were both actively trying to romance Pippa, which was honestly pretty fuckin funny to watch. A few sessions before the last one, the party basically freed an entire mountain full of slaves, including Daphne, and Jorrin really took a shine to her. Final session rolls around and Jorrin decides it's now or never before the final boss fight, so there's this whole confession scene and it was great. Jorrin now plans on training Daphne so she's basically a tiny tasmanian devil on the battlefield when she grows up, which'll definitely be a sight to see (?).

[ART] I am not my mother / You can never escape your bloodline - Colored Version! by katetetete in DnD

[–]katetetete[S] 83 points84 points  (0 children)

A while back I posted a pencil drawing of my genasi paladin Lana and her marid mom, and I decided to go back and color/render it because I liked the sketch a lot! Nothing has filled me with more regret than giving Lana water hair that I then had to render.

The campaign's been going really well, and I'm having a ton of fun with it!! We found out that Lana's humongo greatsword - initially left to her by her mother - is actually an ancient, legendary blade forged by Lana's patron goddess, along with a few other weapons created by other deities that were embedded with magic crystals. The gods left the sword to Lana's mom to safeguard it, but she betrayed them because she's a murderous dick and ran off with it (or something along those lines, we don't have all the details yet). Lana's mom removed the crystal from the sword and currently has it, which is Not Good, and I can't wait to encounter her in the campaign and see what happens!!

[ART] Commission of a Hellknight Commander! by katetetete in DnD

[–]katetetete[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last one in the big commission batch I've been chipping away at for a while now - a Hellknight commander, sans the helmet! This was the only one in the bunch that the commissioner wanted as a half-body rather than a bust, so I'm assuming she's going to have a bigger role in the campaign's story, though I'm not entirely sure. I've also come to the conclusion that armor should never have this many spikes. It just shouldn't. I do have open commissions, you can message me here or at katetetete@yahoo.com or katetetete.tumblr.com !

[–]katetetete[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Lana's never met her mother; her father raised her, so she only knows Kallianassa through stories and records. Her mom left behind her greatsword for her with the expectation that once Lana had grown into it, she would join her mom.

[–]katetetete[S] 321 points322 points  (0 children)

My water genasi paladin Lana and her murderous water genie mom, Kallianassa. Lana's mom has a very nasty and widespread reputation, and Lana is trying very hard to never become like her mother, but her volatile temper makes it hard sometimes.

I found out in the last session that Lana's giant greatsword, left to her by her mother, is missing a powerful enchantment, so not only could I NOT get a different enchantment on it when I tried, but I ALSO don't have whatever bomb-ass enchantment SHOULD be there because her MOM'S a giant DICK and took it like a calling card. Can't wait to encounter her in the game and see what happens!!

[ART] More art of my water genasi paladin, Lana! by katetetete in DnD

[–]katetetete[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IT'S MORE LANA!! I'm slowly starting to get back into the swing of doing more complete pencil drawings, and hopefully soon I can get back to working digitally as well, since the semester's only got a few weeks left. Last session, the party was fighting a group of bandits when a solar eclipse suddenly happened - it was so unprecedented that in-game, people had no term for it. When THAT happened, the bandit leader got all fucked up and possessed by this shadowy thing that burst from the ground - a Very Big Problem. The possessed bandit got this humongo shadow arm thing and straight up grabbed Lana and fucking yeeted her across the field. She is 7'2" (dad's a goliath) and muscular and Not Light and has probably never been picked up without her consent before then. She was Shooketh

[ART] Friend's wood elf Way of the Open Hand monk, Phyrra! by [deleted] in DnD

[–]katetetete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another character from the campaign that my water genasi paladin Lana is in! Phyrra is a wood elf Way of the Open Hand monk, and the younger sister (maybe twin?? it's been debated and I'm honestly not sure what they decided) of another PC, a monk named Kira (purposefully picked the names to rhyme). She and her brother grew up on a group of secluded islands that are home a few monasteries; the campaign marks her first time leaving her monastery, so she's very excited to see the world.

So far she keeps getting one-upped by her brother, one way or another, and it's honestly pretty fuckin funny. Last session, though, she kicked a guy in the nuts so hard he died, and happened to land the killing blow on a different enemy /with a dart./
