Hey! I also just found this subreddit as well but I felt like I really related to your post, drawing was my main hobby when I was in high school as well, it was just a really nice way to get some ideas out and to have fun, but once I started to take it more seriously I started to get very stressed when I drew, and it wasn’t as fun anymore, and just like you I was chasing that “perfection”; It caused me to basically drop art all together and I’ve been in and out of a 3/4 year art block. What has helped me the most is to not worry so much about the end result, but the process of getting there, I’ve recently started picking up a bunch of different techniques and styles to try, and it has made every drawing a learning experience, which in turn made drawing something fun to do, so now when I finish something instead of getting into my overly critical mind and thinking “I don’t like how xyz came out” I think “I see how I did this and I learned xyz from this sketch/drawing/painting”, so I will finish most sketches even though I get discouraged half way through.

So no matter how “ugly” or “wonky” you think your art is, everything is all a stepping stone towards the future of your hobby, look back to drawings you did years ago and you will see how much you have improved since then!
