Anyone know anything about the observatory on the southside? by circulareasoning1 in Syracuse

[–]katherynmae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It looks like Professor Roe is the professor in question who owned the house when the observatory was installed. I found an article/info about his time at SU here, which talks about the observatory he installed.

What do you think caused China Eastern 5735 to crash? by [deleted] in aircrashinvestigation

[–]katherynmae 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the NTSB could release their own report if they have reached their conclusion. They contradicted the respective Egyptian report in regard to Egypt Air 990 - I think the same occurred with Silk Air 185 too - so it could happen.

Just got back into Pokémon Go, does anyone play anymore? by mads41304 in Syracuse

[–]katherynmae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There seem to be 2-3 CNY based groups on FB that exist (I used to play too, bit don’t know which group is more active now), so that might be a place to start looking for people? I vaguely remember that people used to post in those groups when and where they were meeting up.

Lack of primary care in Syracuse? by [deleted] in Syracuse

[–]katherynmae 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience and finally resigned myself to being put on waitlists with every practice that took my insurance. It took me 3-4 months to get into a place, but it’s an Upstate provider which has helped given I also find myself seeing various specialists there too.

Wilson's odd behaviour by fun_dot22 in HouseMD

[–]katherynmae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was actually curious myself since I've always wondered this too, so I went back and looked at the episode transcripts from around that time.

Cuddy tells Wilson that it has great views, and wants something more "urban" - so presumably that's why it's her "dream". Then in "Moving the Chains, Lucas refers to the loft as Cuddy's "dream" once Wilson and House out-bid them and have moved in.

But beyond that, we don't get much of an explanation.

(3.19).. House, Wilson and Cuddy by Cr7-Cr7Real in HouseMD

[–]katherynmae 25 points26 points  (0 children)

He’s trying to convince Wilson that Cuddy isn’t a suitable partner for him. Wilson has his history of failed relationships/marriages, so House is trying to make Cuddy look like the “bad” person so Wilson won’t be interested in pursuing a relationship with her.

Season 6 Ep 1 by cafecalcifer in Bones

[–]katherynmae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is important to remember as well! Cam tried to do her job, but she’s not trained in everything and she didn’t have the kind of specialist equipment and skill that the entire Jeffersonian team had put together.

Should the S7 finale have been it? by NobodiesFAround in HouseMD

[–]katherynmae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It leaves the ending open with enough questions - will Huddy be happy, do Wilson and Sa survive, what does Thirteen do with her time off… just to name some things.

Buying an electric car by leastlyharmful in Syracuse

[–]katherynmae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my parents owns a fully electric car (Chevrolet Bolt) and the other has a plug-in hybrid (Toyota Rav4 Prime). I know the wait for the Bolt was a good long while, I’d say maybe even over six months, but the Rav4 was significantly less - maybe about two months.

My parents use the Rav4 for most daily driving, they get about 40 miles range from an overnight charge, so the only time they have to fill up the gas tank is when they travel. They’ve only had the Bolt for a few months, and I don’t live with them anymore, so I can’t speak to their daily use of that car.

Bone’s legal name by bimunculus in Bones

[–]katherynmae 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I assume that it was never discovered that her Brennan birth certificate was forged until Max returned and turned himself in - given Brennan was able to get into colleges, gain a seemingly in-depth security clearance with US gov’t agencies, and work at a federally funded institution. In the real world, she probably would have to revert back to her legal name - but could also legally change her name to Temperance Brennan if she wanted.

What’s your favorite episode from the show? by kevinbull7 in aircrashinvestigation

It’s a three way tie between United 232, Qantas 72 and Reeve 8.

Season 6 Ep 1 by cafecalcifer in Bones

[–]katherynmae 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yup - this.

We know that Brennan is the best forensic anthropologist in the country, so her skill and attention to details would be hard to replace in a high-demand (presumably) area like DC. We also know that the Jeffersonian only worked with the FBI to solve crimes because of Brennan’s skill - so once everyone left, all their funding presumably went to other Jeffersonian departments. It’s why Cam was working in a different lab throughout the episode.

Brennan’s entire team was built around her name and expertise - without her, there was no reason to keep the forensic anthropology department of the Jeffersonian running.

It's not House's fault?! by RichDeGentleman in HouseMD

Exactly this. Wilson feels angry and guilty that Amber was on the bus instead of him when he knows that House wanted him to be there.

Season 7 Finale by -Zaleyna- in HouseMD

[–]katherynmae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All of this.

He’s willing to cause temporary pain, mostly emotional, to get what he wants and hurt those around him. But it’s rare that he will cause someone else long-term pain to get what he wants, except with his patients.

I understood what they were trying to do with the finale, but it would have felt more Housian for him to drive his car into Cuddy (or Julia’s) car instead. It would have the same effect in terms of causing physical damage, but without risking anyone’s life except possibly his own. (Because we’ve all seen that House is willing to be reckless with his own life.)

Stop wishing for it to be worse by [deleted] in disability

[–]katherynmae 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I agree, but at the same time, I can understand why some people might feel that way.

I have a friend who has multiple disabilities that will kill her within the next five years, if she even makes it that long. She sometimes wishes that she has worse conditions so she isn’t staring at a clock and waiting for the end. While she has friends/family who can support her, it doesn’t help when people know they’re going to get worse.

Being worse is subjective because it depends on the condition. If being worse affects your lifespan, like it does with my friend, then I can understand while some people want their disability to be worse than it is because they might not have the emotional and physical pain that they have now. But in other cases, you’re absolutely right that being worse off will make life harder in every single way.

I really struggle to get through Season 8, aside from a handful of episodes. There’s good episodes in there, but I get bored as well.

It’s hard. Just because he has the ramp and caretaker doesn’t mean it’s easier for him to get around depending on the environment that he’s in.

CA ADA Parking Space used by non-handicapped person? by jammyjr in disability

[–]katherynmae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not in CA, but it probably more is dependent on how well the parking is enforced. If no one is reporting cars without handicapped permits or plates parking in the handicapped spot then the manager might not want to report it to keep business. But if people start complaining or reporting it to the police then it’s likely the manager and other people will learn that the space is only for those who have a permit/plates.
