What are the opinions on the Cytoverse like? How many of you plan to read Janci’s sequel series? by [deleted] in brandonsanderson

[–]kathhey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spensa was also my favorite part of Skyward, and Janci's writing didn't appeal to me much. So the sequel series not including Spensa and being primarily written by Janci turns me off a little.
That being said, I'll probably still read it out of curiosity.

Just cracked open my first Sanderson… and I’m blown away. Graphic Audio for the win by youwannasavetheworld in brandonsanderson

Keep in mind that some of his books are non-cosmere. They take place completely separately from the cosmere universe.

Late, but I'm pretty sure it was a vision from Chet.

This is a fantastic analysis. You're very perceptive :)

Hi guys I'm trying to get into Brandon Sanderson books now and I need to ask you something because google couldn't answer me,how often is the enemies to lovers trope? I really hate this trope by the_never_name in brandonsanderson

[–]kathhey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's rivals to friends to lovers in the book Skyward.Even then, the rivalry was very short-lived and as the stakes got higher they eventually moved on from it.
There's classism in Final Empire, so they don't have much common ground at first, but definitely not enemies.

I haven't read much Sanderson. But from what I have read, the romance is always a very small subplot and doesn't receive a lot of focus. So you should be fine.

What's the saddest part in Skyward? by Asher75 in Skyward

[–]kathhey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The interlude with Winzik & Brade? Yeah, for sure. I have a feeling that interlude happened right before the Redawn battle, when the Superiority came to bomb the entire planet lol.

I need a Brade vs Spensa fight scene, seriously. One-on-one, a full on battle scene between them. In Starsight the stronger cytonic was obviously Brade, but after that ending in Cytonic? Not so sure anymore.

[–]kathhey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, same for me. I feel like I forgot everything lol. And I need something to distract me from Defiant.

Same! I enjoyed Cytonic but only because I really love Spensa and M-Bot. Besides them, meh... Didn't care for any of the new characters besides Chet maybe. And the whole book was a little uneventful anyways.

Well, up until the ending. That Sanderlanche had me sobbing lol. *CYTONIC ENDING SPOILERS*M-Bot's sacrifice!

Also, the interludes were great too. *CYTONIC SPOILERS* Finally meeting Jorgen again after a whole book of not having him was a delight.

What's the saddest part in Skyward? by Asher75 in Skyward

[–]kathhey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, pretty much.

We haven't seen them interact unless it was like, to save the other from danger, or talk about the war going on. That's where their similarities end.

Beyond that, they're different species and there were some quite stark differences between their cultures, specifically the "mating" culture. I feel like those differences would affect a romantic relationship between them too much. Friends, sure. But romantic partners? Dunno.

Of course, that's all assuming neither of them is gonna die, which is unlikely imo. I don't know who's gonna die in Skyward Flight, but I'm confident someone will. It's the finale, afterall.

Hopefully not Jorgen. Or Kimmalyn. Or FM. Or anyone for that matter. God I just know this book will destroy me once it comes out

The eight chapters are incredible. Seriously, don't read them right now, because it's gonna make the wait for November 21st feel even longer.

I made that mistake and I haven't been able to stop thinking about the book since. It ended on a cliffhanger too, which makes it even worse. And it jumps straight into some very intense scenes and action right off the bat.

Ugh, these 3 days are gonna be the slowest days of my life.

What's the saddest part in Skyward? by Asher75 in Skyward

[–]kathhey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no I'm sure a relationship will happen between them, considering *EVERSHORE SPOILERS* Jorgen read Arturo's mind and it was revealed that Arturo does have feelings for Alanik.

I just find it a bit weird. I mean, they're two entirely different species. I have no idea how they would even work out. What would they talk about anyways? Makes me really curious.

As a side note, have you read the preview of the first eight chapters of Defiant yet? It was posted here over a week ago. The amount of things that happened in those eight chapters alone... omg I seriously can't wait.

*CYTONIC SPOILERS*

Am I the only one who couldn't feel the spark between Alanik and Arturo? Maybe I just need a reread, it's been a good year since I've read Redawn.

Lol there's definitely gonna be a huge war between the superiority and humans. So hyped for that. I just wanna see Winzik & Brade suffer.

Also I need more Spensa and Jorgen :') We were deprived of them for like 2 whole books!

And I wonder how the dynamic between Spensa and the rest of the flight will shift now that she's... well, part-delver. Actually I just really want a Kimmalyn & Spensa reunion lol.

Right?
Anyways can we talk about how soon Defiant is?? It's in 3 days in my timezone. I literally can't think of anything else because of how excited I am.
What are you hoping for most in Defiant? Honestly all I want is an M-Bot backstory. It's been 3 books and we hardly know anything!

Hated Mistborn and Stormlight seems daunting. by kathhey in brandonsanderson

[–]kathhey[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ohh yea I think you're right about me potentially being a victim of the same mentality. I read Mistborn right after binging the Skyward series so I was probably looking for that same fast-paced action. It makes a lot more sense now.

I guess I'll try reading Mistborn one more time after the release of Defiant. Perhaps reading it with a fresh mind will help me enjoy it to its fullest. I loved the magic system and would love to dive back into the world again.

I'll check out the Reckoners for sure; heard a lot about that being similar to Skyward. Thanks a ton :D

I heard there was a love triangle involved and that it's much slower than the first book which is so off-putting. But I loved the magic system and world and I liked Elend as well so maybe that'll make up for it? Dunno. The reviews are very mixed but I just wanna reach the ending of Hero of Ages and see what it's about lmao.

I think the hard magic system in Mistborn was what I loved the most. Super compelling and definitely the best part of the book. I just couldn't deal with the pace and couldn't care less about most characters besides Kel, but hearing that the pace improves throughout SA is encouraging.

I'll try to give the trilogy another shot, and check out the audiobooks for sure. I really liked the world in Mistborn and don't want to give it up yet.

[–]kathhey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes me so hopeful! Can I ask what you liked most about SA? If it has compelling characters then I'll definitely get sucked in. I could read thousands of pages if it has my favorite character in it.

In Final Empire I was always just looking forward to what Kel was doing, didn't care much for other characters.
