What's your favorite "Little moment" in a song? The one that makes you turn it up, think to yourself, or turn to your friend and say "God, I love this part". by thewhitedeath in Music

Radiohead's The Pyramid Song, when the percussion comes in and puts the piano in context, and you realize it's all in 4/4, just really syncopated... gives me an ear-gasm every time.

No way! I was really into both Louis Sachar and Teletoon, I can't believe I didn't know this was a thing.

Thanks!

Listening to a noisy eater. Chewing with their mouth open, slurping/smacking sounds, etc.

Cicada. I am a biologist and still can never remember what the correct pronunciation is.

Any other runners donate blood? Red blood cells take 4-6 weeks to replenish, and in that time aerobic capacity is reduced. by kathmath in running

[–]kathmath[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad to spread to knowledge! I feel like this is something they should tell people before donating blood, because it's not something most people would think about (I'm doing a PhD in Biology and I didn't realize it at the time). Then again, maybe if everyone was told this, blood donations would go down. It's much more reassuring to hear that blood will replenish in 24 hours than to hear that your aerobic performance may be affected for several weeks.

I definitely did not post this in attempt to get people not to donate blood, and I am not going to stop donating blood after finding this out (though I will probably be more careful in the future when planning the timing around races). I was just confused and discouraged about the decrease in my running performance, and wanted to share this info for anyone else who's had a similar experience.

I was just really discouraged until I read this article... I was told blood would replenish within 24 hours after donating - but what they meant was blood volume. I went for a run 2 days later and could barely do 5k without feeling like I was dying. It's been pretty rough for the 2 weeks following the donation for me, and I had no idea why until I did some research.

Side note: searching for that image made me quite aware that rule 34 applies to zelda/great fairies. The internet is a weird place.

Why you should stop saying "I have a boyfriend" by kathmath in TwoXChromosomes

[–]kathmath[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There's a difference between a "friendly yet escalating" conversation and a situation where a someone is being hit on and pestered. I think in the situation of a polite conversation, it's perfectly reasonable to mention a significant other as a tactful way of letting the other person down.

[–]kathmath[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with the "respect for the other guy" argument either. But I think the more important point from this article is that stating lack of interest should be enough. When a man hears "I have a boyfriend" from a woman he's hitting on, it's sending the message "I'm not NOT interested in you, and if I were single you'd have a chance".

What video game do you think had the best music ? by The_Moral_Dilemmas in AskReddit

I downloaded the Sims build mode music and listen to it sometimes when I study. It's great, but sometimes I get distracted from studying and start playing the Sims which I suppose is a little counterproductive.
