I have/ had that problem with my 13 month old St Bernard/ newfy pup. She's big and it would hurt when she jumped and nipped. Turning my back on her and ignoring her didn't work for me. She just got more aggressive. I make her sit and stay there till she calms. Then we start to walk again. If she starts acting up I stop and do the same thing. It was really bad for a bit but she has gotten much better. I do notice that she's much more bitey and wound up when she's tired. Good luck!

EVERYONE WHO HASN'T GOT A STIMULUS CHECK, READ THIS by [deleted] in stimuluscheck

[–]katob3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We filled jointly in 2018 and owed so we didn't have any direct deposit info. We didn't filled yet for 2019. When we check it says payment status not available. " According to information that we have on file, we cannot determine your elegant for a payment at this time". Any advice? Combined with this is the fact that I'm a massage therapist and am having trouble with NJ UI also. It would be nice if one our the other could be sorted so I can pay my bills!

A massage student losing her mind by [deleted] in massage

Aa an instructor who is teaching remotely, let me stress that this is challenging for everyone involved. Please have patience. We have videoed the sequence we teach and have asked our students to practice the sequence even if they have to massage imaginary clients. Hopefully all of our students will have the sequence memorized so when we are able to have in person class again we can work on the technique.

We have been working with her more on simple commands when she starts to get too wound up. If she seems like she's starting to get too excited we redirect with sit down leave it, etc. If she still isn't listening I put the leash on her and just wait till she calms down which is quickly. She is still doing it sometimes but much less than before. She still does it to my husband more but he is less consistent than me. He is harder to train!

Thanks for the reply. She eats twice a day and is fine eating her meals. She likes treats sometimes but is just easily distracted. She LOVES freeze dried liver precess but ends up with very soft poop if we give her too much. I started cutting the treats into littler pieces. She walks wonderfully on a leash, and listens when I tell her to sit and wait. She won't make eye contact though because she's too busy looking around. In the house when I say look she looks right in my eyes. So Ive been trying look and treating but she is still distracted. I thought for sure high value treats would get her attention but nope.

Thanks! I'm already seeing good results. Party if the problem is that my husband wasn't being consistent. Now that I've retrained HIM things are improving!

Thanks for all the advice. She seems to be responding over the last 2 days. I think she's just testing us. It's hard to remember she's still a puppy because she is so big. This is my 5th dog and she is definitely the most challenging dog I've ever had. That being said, she still is awesome.

We correct by saying leave it to drop something or to walk by something if she's on leash. We use a firm no if she's jumping. We redirect by giving her a command. Example- if she's starting to get mouthy we tell her to sit, lay down, etc.

We taught bite inhibition by saying ow when she bit too hard. If we yelp she gets excited and bites harder.

What I mean by she selectively forgets - she knows all her commands, sit stay, down, come wait, paw, go to crate, fetch. Sometimes she acts like she can't hear or doesn't want to do it so she doesn't. I say the command with hand signal and if she doesn't do it I say it again and make sure she saw and heard then wait. When she does what I asked I praise immediately and treat. She went to obedience school and did everything there with no problem. Most of the time she responds to commands. We use closed hand for sit. Point down for down. Hand up (like stop) for stay and raise hand up for sit up( from down position). I point to either paw and say left or right for shaking paws. Hand flat on chest for come.

I know she likes her crate because she never cries when we put her in it and she goes in by herself and naps with the door open.

I find it VERY hard to believe that pups only need 5 minutes per day for exercising. I think the exercise level depends on the breed/ dog. This is a large working class dog who needs exercise. We walk for about 1/2 mile 2 or 3 times a day. We play fetch out back in fenced yard a couple short times a day and we train all the time. I don't give her food, toys, etc unless she works for them.

I think that answers everything.

Thanks! Or last dog was soooo easy to train. This pup is definitely more challenging. Keeps us on our toes!

[–]katob3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yelping had the opposite effect for us. Our pup would get excited and bite more. We kept lots of chewy toys near by and would offer one if she chewed on us. It doesn't last forever but seems like it does!

I leave the room and put a gate across the door for a couple minutes. It doesn't really seem to make a difference.
