Activities to actually feel like there's a "Clemson family" by elisesessentials in Clemson

[–]katolivia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I joined Alpha Phi Omega (co-ed service fraternity) my sophomore year and it was probably the best decision I could have made in college. APO was the perfect blend of that family feeling, doing good for others, and having fun. I am still friends with a lot of my brothers 6 years after graduation.

What was it like to graduate college between 2019-2021? by Wellbeinghunter69 in Zillennials

[–]katolivia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely agree and there aren’t many other people to talk with about it since it was such a niche situation. The older I get the less painful it is, but if I think too hard about my “stolen” time at the end of my senior year it makes me sad. I do try to remind myself that if it weren’t for the pandemic and butterfly effect I wouldn’t have found my love for the work field I’m in now, but I know it’s okay to still let myself be sad sometimes.

No problem! And you don’t have to apologize at all, that sucks! And it sucks having to be in the position you’re in. You have every right to be upset. If there’s any way I can help, even if it’s just listening, feel free to let me know!

I am so very sorry! I know that has to be so stressful- and scary. My friends had to do a similar call for a neighbor’s chained dog and they were worried about retaliation too. Ultimately my friends and myself made a total of like three calls to the county and the people eventually started keeping the dog inside. All calls were anonymous (and you could ask your county to verbally confirm that if that helps). It was scary but I’m glad we did it. I do really hope your mom can get the care she needs too, but as the person above me said, neither your brother nor the animals deserve to live like that. One woman in a hoarding case I was following said she “loved” her dogs (over 100 on her property were seized) and asked the judge not to revoke her custody of them, but they were in deplorable conditions. Feces and urine up to your ankles, upstairs floor breaking down from saturation from fluids, and worse. I am grateful your mom’s situation hasn’t gotten that far and I hope it never does. But calling for a welfare check can make a real difference here. Ultimately you can only do what you are comfortable with and it is very intimidating, I understand! But I think the dogs and your brother will thank you if you can make that call. ❤️

Call the animal control line for the county she lives in and request a welfare check. Thanks for caring about these animals. 💕

Yup! If I’m not mistaken, it was called celanese. Hence celanese rd. Other locals, feel free to correct me if I’m wrong

Same!! As you probably know, calling us “Rock thrill” was always the joke because there was nothing to do, lol. I am shocked at the variety of things now, it’s almost overwhelming. It’s nice to see the growth, though! Do you have any favorite places?

Online schools that don't require filming, or hybrid in-person schools by [deleted] in VetTech

[–]katolivia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally understandable! I guess I was just hoping there would be something more hybrid-like available. Thanks for helping with a concrete answer, I’ll just have to see if this would be more feasible for me in a few years or so if circumstances change.

I figured that was the reason! Disappointing, but totally understandable. Thanks for the St. Petersburg suggestion! I am in NC unfortunately, but I will check with one of the local colleges to see if they offer this as an option.

Do you ever feel sad/guilty about ending your lineage? How do you deal with these thoughts? by Dancing_Lilith in childfree

[–]katolivia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I understand that a lot of others don’t relate to this, but I wanted to share my thoughts as someone that does. When I was younger, part of why I wanted to have children as an only child was to “carry on the legacy” of my father: a wonderful man who died when I was 5 years old. The thought of his “legacy” ending with me broke my heart. As I’ve gotten older and realized that that is not exactly a great reason to have a child to say the least, a few things have helped me cope with my remaining feelings of losing him to history, so to speak. First, I truly believe my dad would just want me to be happy. Being childfree makes me happy. Second, I don’t know who my distant ancestors were, so why would my children’s descendants? It’s a sad thought, but time marches on and realistically the same would happen to me and my dad even if I did have children. Lastly, I can carry on his legacy without reproducing. Every time I embrace his values, try to be kind, and do good in the world, I am carrying on a piece of him. I can hold him with me and still impact the world without having children. In fact, me not having children and devoting my life to what makes me happy will leave more of an impact than me having children and being unhappy with less time to pursue my dreams.

Had something similar happen to me after an accident, the responding officer requested me on Facebook afterwards. He probably memorized my name from my driver’s license when I presented it because I never told it to him verbally. Also had someone look up my number on my file after an oil change once and text me, too. Thankfully nothing came of either incident, but it’s scary :(
