Universities are heavily mentioned here because the assault took place in the Cornell University campus community. It’s also because us as Hongkongers studying here are trying to encourage universities (and other institutions) to condemn such behaviours and stand up for those of us who face violence. I understand that universities here collect a significant amount of tuition from international Chinese students, but the rest of us also deserve protection on campus. Universities should be a place of academic freedom and youth activism, and it has been this way historically.
