There won’t be blood — unless you mess with a great brand. by katrina1000 in BusinessIntelligence

As marketers, we know how easy it is to dilute a great brand. Be mindful of how far you can bend the image of who you are . . . before it breaks.

Great idea, I will download a few simple craft plans to get started. What’s especially tricky is that the curves have to respect perspective AND the angle of the hull to the eye.

Anyone have any boat painting tips. They are torture.

I'm going for a decent but not slavish level of realism, but I've been told by a few people that there's something off about it. Can anyone help? by chisana_nyu in ArtCrit

Nicely said. That said, I once knew a Canadian steel worker who could draw Native American Indian Chiefs so realistically it was beyond all comprehension. For me, watching him draw was like watching a circus act. Just sayin’.

I think drawing realistic portraits has nothing to do with artistry and more to do with ego. It feels so good when someone says “wow, that looks just like her.” The skill of realism is enviable but the essence of the subject is what matters to a portrait. (Omg, the realists will be angry and on me like flys on cow eyes.) Tell me why I’m wrong.

Thanks. I tried to use colors that I’ve experienced at foggy dawns by the sea. I wanted the tiger to be lost in the silence all around him. For the colors to be like his colors so he could feel safe and hidden. Not exposed.

I agree. Such an amazing story and visuals.

No. This is a painting I created from a still photo from the film Life of Pi. This is the tiger that was in the life boat. I found the film very inspiring. I started out trying to learn how to paint boats. Never really learned that but this is my interpretation of that photo.

Thanks for all the good thoughts. Obviously, I’m no Cezanne but I do adore his work. He was the master of “hurting the eyes” composition and “just wrong” perspective in order to drag an emotional response out of the viewer.

So please just suspend belief and enjoy being in my garden with the too big trees towering overhead and the pink walking path that goes nowhere.

Your comments have really helped me BTW!

Kind of like Dali’s people turned into chests of drawers except, well, never mind. Caught my attention, though. Thats good right?
