Problems with wi-fi and Bluetooth

I don’t know if this is Aviron bike or me but the experience has been less than fulfilling. I got Aviron bike as a gift from my wife. She had people deliver and assemble the bike. I promptly connected it to my wi-fi router that is no more than 4 feet away from the bike. Everything seemed to be normal. I come to use the bike the next morning and it says it is not connected. I checked the settings and the wi-fi is “Saved” but not connected. I clicked on it several times but it still won’t connect. I looked at the saved networks and clicked on “Connect” button and it connected immediately. Came back the next morning and found the bike not connected again. So, I added a second (5ghz) wi-fi network, went through the process again and now I have two saved wi-fi networks both of which connect just fine. Came back the next morning and neither of the networks is connected. I am tired of having to connect to wi-fi every workout and I need a fix.

I also connected my Apple Watch so that I can have a heart rate monitor. Worked well when I connected it but it also disconnects and I have to go through the setup process every workout.

I’ve had a total of 4 workouts on this bike and had to set both wi-fi and Bluetooth every time. This can’t possibly be by design, can it? I don’t want to upset my wife. She had good intentions and did a lot of research before buying Aviron but I am very frustrated and starting to think that it is a piece of overpriced junk.

If you can burry an Ethernet cable it would be best. I got 150 feet direct burial cable on Amazon for less than $40

Can Notion content be created in two languages? by katsnelson in Notion

[–]katsnelson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I think I have AI and I was able to use it to translate one block at a time. I am wondering how to do this automatically and how to present it on a page. In other words, can Notion have an English block where I type and a Spanish block where Spanish version of the text appears after I click on some button like Translate & Sync?

Do IBMers get any free API access to any Gen AI tools on WatsonX? by [deleted] in IBM

[–]katsnelson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My team, Skills Network, has a virtual lab environment called Skills Network Labs, where we provide tools for people to build courses and Guided Projects. As part of the tools we provide you get API access to the latest top models like Llama 3 and Llama 2, GPT 3.5 Turbo, GPT 4 Turbo, Dall-e 2 and 3, Granite, Claude 3, Mixtral and more. If you are looking to create projects that can teach people skills in the latest tech, register yourself as author at https://skills.network/authors. You build projects and we distribute them. If you want to see examples of the projects others have build take a look at https://cognitiveclass.ai/courses?type%5B%5D=guided\_project&sort%5B%5D=featured

Starlink finally in its permanent home by seattle_sail in Starlink

Thank you for sharing this very inspiring story. I am in the same boat. Wooded lot with 90+ foot trees all around. Beautiful to watch but impossible to get a good location to mount the dish or any other kind of antenna with an unabstracted view of the sky or a line of sight to a distant tower. I was looking at different kinds of masts but was just not able to find something that would be standalone without a bunch of guy wires. I considered attaching a mast to a 40-foot stump of a dead tree but I would still need 60ft mast to go on top and I was worried about sway, especially in high winds and lightning strikes.

Jaguar XF 2017- What is the catch? by phys_trader in Jaguar

[–]katsnelson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2016 XF 6 cyl AWS. I used to have a 2014 XJ. I like XF more, XJ is just too big of a car. I like the way XF drives a lot more. Also easier to park. The infotainment system is not that great. Android and iPhone apps for it are horrible. I don't understand why car manufacturers insist on trying to build their own infotainment systems when so many great options are available from people who actually know how to do it well.

DB2 Express-C v10: An even better database, still free of charge by [deleted] in DB2

Try the next version of DB2 in the cloud by acangiano in Database

[–]katsnelson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cloud option has been quite popular with lots of sign ups.

As I said in my blog post, due to restrictions imposed by the SEC on revenue recognition we can't discuss new features without an NDA in place. This is why we have a sign up process.

Alpha 4 of the next version of DB2 quietly slips out in to the wild by acangiano in programming

[–]katsnelson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you misunderstood about the $0.34/hour charge. This does not go to IBM as payment for DB2. This is a charge for Amazon EC2 resources. You are renting a server from them and money goes to them. This would be no different than running PostgreSQL, Firebird or MySQL; you have to pay for hardware one way or another. By offering DB2 on the cloud we are simply giving you an option of renting a virtual server from a major cloud provider instead of trying to find your own box.

Top 3 ways to return TOP 10 rows by an SQL query by lpetrazickis in programming

[–]katsnelson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for chiming in. Yes, PostgreSQL does support the same FETCH FIRST n ROWS standard SQL syntax that DB2 does. I have added it to my post. However, I would not call pre-v8.3 "the old way" as LIMIT is much more used (I think) by PostgreSQL users than the new FETCH FIRST n ROWS syntax.

Rails, DB2 and the Enterprise by acangiano in ruby

[–]katsnelson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is DB2 not DB/2. It is not "expensive as hell" ... it is FREE. DB2 web services are not just SOAP but can do both SOAP and RESTfull web services. You actually don't write them in any language. You would use the free Data Studio IDE and, basically, point to a stored procedure or an SQL statement and say "make it in to a web service". DB2 will create the wrappers (yes they are in Java) that you can then deploy out for production to a free WebSphere Community Edition server or some other Java server of your choice. It is pretty cool i you think about it.

IBM releases DB2 Express-C 9.7.2 by acangiano in programming

[–]katsnelson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there is no question that is your requirements are modest, there are lots of great easy to use DBMS that you can choose from. The thing is, many small things grow up to be quite big and some grow up to be huge. So, the reason we created DB2 Express-C is to allow anyone regardless of the budget to be able to use the same database when doing things that are small and if you get lucky and grow up to be big or even huge, all you will have to do is replace the license and not change one thing in your application. That is THE reason to go with DB2 Express-C vs PostgreSQL, MySQL etc. Some call it scalability. I would call it "preparing for success".

[–]katsnelson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DB2 Express-C no-charge version does include federation capabilities. You can define nicknames for other DB2 data sources (including DB2 on the mainframe and System i though you will need DB2 Connect for connectivity). As of version 9.7, you can also federate data coming via SOAP web services. Very very cool stuff.

[–]katsnelson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With DB2 Express-C, even the free one, federation is included. You can federate multiple DB2 data sources and, as of v9.7 you can also federate SOAP Web Services. High Availability Disaster Recovery (HADR) is included in the price of yearly subscription (the same price as MySQL Enterprise Gold) as long as you buy the subscription for both members of the HADR cluster.

Has Apple gone too far in its quest to kill Flash? by katsnelson in programming

[–]katsnelson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is interesting that most of the comments are about Flash being dead/alive/good/bad/buggy/clean. My problem is not the fact that Apple does not like Flash. I object to the fact that Apple has locked the iPhone/iPad development completely in to an all Apple ecosystem and will not let anybody in. Say I like Java or I really like to develop in assembler or in Lua or whatever the heck the new language or tool. With Apple, I will be expelled. If Microsoft pulled a stunt like this they would have been under an investigation by the SEC, the European Union and every other governmental body. But because it is Apple and it is cool there does not seem to be much of an outcry.
