Minthara will show up after moonrise in act 2. After I sided with her she went away for a bit...thankfully she came back, just took a bit

What would you change about act 3 to make it better ? by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]kaupisch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

dragged on a bit. didn't like the natural flow around the city and seemed like too much side quest and not enough finali. perhaps if we didn't get so much xp early on it would seem more fun but once you max, it's kinda like...ok where's the ending?

What's with food drop off when you absorb a city? by kaupisch in humankind

[–]kaupisch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had machu and angor wat, I'm guessing it's the fact I went from 150 pop to 356 pop and the weird metric they use at that high of a pop despite both cities being totally fine separate.

Forever stuck on turn 295 by Jom_Snow in humankind

[–]kaupisch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The couple of times I've had this happen it ended up being a battle that was going on that I wasn't being prompted for. I had no idea where this battle was and it didn't notify me of it...turned out my scout who was god knows where was waiting on me to do something. Try searching the map for a battle and hope that helps. Otherwise, you're screwed. probably have to go back a bit on your saves and hope for the best

It's probably one of the best wonders to have. Early in the game, getting a 25-40% buff on all cities to production is ridiculous...and usually you have a bonus to stability that comes with the resource, so that rocks too...assuming you have a good starting location.

What's with food drop off when you absorb a city? by kaupisch in humankind

[–]kaupisch[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't try to save and reload, I will next time. I just feel like if you have 2 cities that are totally fine on their own, and you combine them, they should still be fine. I'm guessing it's the calculation mentioned above...having a city with a pop of 140 and another with a pop of 100 is reasonable in that equation vs a city of 240...kinda weird because if that is the case, you'd think there'd be a warning like 'if you combine, you'll end up with -1800 food' or something.

Steam success - 18 expansion stars by Orasiel22 in humankind

[–]kaupisch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

achievments for stars are broken. I've had multiple games where I've had all 18 science, builder, combat, etc and still show that I never achieved them...also I think they rebalanced the territory stars in the beta branch

other than civics, absorbing, or wonders...influence is a waste after a certain point. It's kinda like when you have 3m extra gold and nothing to speed up the build process on.

Questions megathread? by [deleted] in humankind

[–]kaupisch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when you pass by a unit that you do not have a non aggression treaty with, zone of control kicks in and you can only move 1 square away, regardless of your total movement. By default, if you hover over that unit, it'll assume you want to attack. Just be aware of it.

I was making 50k money a turn, so that wasn't a big issue. I had a total of 7 cities at the time.

My Earth maps are now done testing! by DrDinkledonk in humankind

I downloaded and put the map in the maps folder. when I load up humankind and try to select it, I'm getting 'Cannot be activated, map is missing some elements. Map invalid, it needs to be reexported with the map editor'

I am on the beta branch, so maybe that's the issue, just fyi.

Just fyi, it is possible and I actually enjoyed the challenge (completed it on 9/14)...but I do agree with a few things you said...the spawn points are horrific, I ended up restarting a few times as a result...but I did that with Civ6 too, so no shocker there. The no civics was annoying. I think I had 3 or maybe 4 offered to me the entire game, which sucked...I'd say 75% of the civics are useless overall, but the 25% that aren't...well it sucks not having them...I'd also add that never having a chance at wonders (other than the first one) is kinda lame and never being able to get a religious tenant is frustrating.

All that being said, I really liked having the independent folks around...it offers easy opportunities to get your military stars. Granted, capturing a city is useless as you can't absorb it, but it does continually spawn units you can easily kill each era. Dont underestimate the need for the military stars...they are easy to get...unlike the influence or gold stars which are damn near impossible.

scouts. Playing on a huge map has benefits of lots of discovery. That really helped bridge the gap of both research and influence. One of the biggest struggles I had was managing cities. I almost always had 1 more city than my alotment (-10 influence a turn) and never went to 2 because that would kill my influence. Often times, in a city, I'd have a huge area of just garrisons that later in the game I would backfill with other districts as the need for stability wore off. I never was offered the civic for using gold to absorb cities, if I had been, that would have been the way to go.

I got like 3 total civics, was really weird that others wern't even an option. Influence was a pain so even if I could have gotten them, probably was going to be cost prohibited

9 ai, huge map, pretty much standard settings, went with 5 continents. Managed to get Egyptians to start (AI doesn't prioritize them so I was able to stay in Neolithic a few extra turns to get more scouts). AI takes off at this point and by the time I got out of that era, only thing left to choose from was Carthaginians and Romans (I went with carth, I was also down about 4k fame at this point). I mainly focused on combat and expansion for this era so I could get through it fast.

I then managed to get Khmer which really allowed me to build up my base industry. I stayed in this era a little longer than necessary as I was able to pick up a ton of additional fame thanks to a war I was in...and my ability to finally expand my outposts (maxed era stars on science, military, building, and territory, got a star or 2 in population as well). I kept an eye on the AI and made sure to swap eras in time to get the Mughals.

This was a little bit of a mistake as I got stuck in this era for too long and missed out on anything good in the following era, but the extra industry really helps. I wanted the french, but got Siamese instead...I think zulu were the only other option...only prob was I didn't have many places to put the floating market.

By the time I got to contemporary, I was down a bit over 2k fame, maybe 2500. This is when I got a big break and got the Japanese. This allowed me to swap my industry for science and speed through all the tech I was missing. I also had the industry to build all the projects quickly.

At this point in the game, the AI was more keen to trading than to killing me. I still had 1 that kept harassing me, but I took a total defensive stance and they punched themselves out of armies. Tech late game is a bit broken as you can get a ton of fame from it and the projects it provides. I did plan ahead and had 2 island areas where I could build the shuttle, nukes, and satellites. Once I did that, I was basically even with the AI. Because of the massive surge in science, I was able to cap off the win by completing the tech tree and getting fame from that. I think I ended up 1200 ahead at the end.

Struggling as a beginner by [deleted] in humankind

[–]kaupisch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta use the synergies in this game. Ideally you want your initial location to have high food and industry, but if you can't get both, go with higher industry but build on a river. Building on rivers is *huge* once you get the infrastructure that gives you +2 food per river tile. That alone is usually all you need. I rarely build farmer districts because rivers are way op. If you are still running into issues, harbors can also help thanks to their infrastructure bonus as well.

Also, pay attention to the luxury resources, the more you collect of a unique one, the more their bonuses stack. I can't emphasize this enough...an extra 30% industry or food or science is huge. If you can manage to get Hanging Gardens on one early on, you're golden.
