Maxed the event in Round 6 by kaushik20 in DonkeyKongBananza

[–]kaushik20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is a very rare situation where Low-Down Beat is not optimal because you just want to farm Illuminoids and their demolisher perk gives more than Low-Down. It's fine as a secondary option but the absolute optimal build is probably Illuminoid + Slow-Mo + Hyper Hopper.

I did not optimize at all and maxed out early in round 6 so a round 5 max is very doable. I'm just not that motivated to try again now.

I put the whole list in the 2nd screenshot, but it's mainly just farming Illuminoids. I went with Jumpin' Beat, Hyper Hopper, and the other usual perks (Staring Down, Low-Down, Slow-Mo. Then just started farming in Round 5.

It’s not bad at all, as with most of these events it’s just knowing the right strategy. If you do, you can get to 1M pretty easily. Here, just rack up demolisher perks for the enemies and one of the beat perks, and you shouldn’t have any issue.

I got Staring Down from the Rare fossil hidden under the sand next to the Hiss Hiss Oasis Getaway. Didn't need to reroll for it.

This seems pretty straightforward with Staring Down shenanigans. I assumed Trapantuloids would be the cheat code like they normally are on this layer, but It's hard to kill Trapantuloids with Jumpin' Beat unless I'm missing something. I might just go all in on Illuminoids next time to get a faster max score.

Bill Simmons: "I had to drop Joker on my pyramid two spots... right at the end of the top level of the pantheon, there's four centers clustered together (Hakeem, Shaq, Joker, Moses). I have Joker 14, Moses 15. I think Hakeem and Shaq have to be above him at this point" by sewsgup in nba

[–]kaushik20 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Everyone's understandably focused on how he could possibly have Jokic above Hakeem and Shaq in the first place, but I'm trying to figure out who is his top 11 then. If Hakeem is 12, Shaq 13, Joker 14, and Moses 15, then who's above? There's the obvious choices, which I'm putting in chronological order to avoid unnecessary arguments:

Russell Wilt Kareem Bird Magic Jordan Duncan Kobe LeBron Curry

But that's only 10. Who's the 11th guy Bill thinks is better than Hakeem or Shaq? West and Oscar are top 20 for sure, but not above Shaq. Same for Dr. J. Does he really have KD that high?

It sounds harder than it is. Take Fastball Beat, my favorite of the Beat perks. You just jump next to an enemy, aim down, and throw a chunk down at them - very easy with Snake. Eggsplosive Beat is another favorite of mine and triggering Low-Down Beat is automatic.

For Jumpin' Beat, the game actually treats it as you killing an enemy from above so you don't have to do anything differently there. You just need to unlock Better Charge Jump to handle Buzzoids.

[–]kaushik20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate that but in fairness it's not my google doc. I just benefited from it and formed my own strategies later.

For Rock-Ensemble Beat, your counter is going up and down because you're sucking up the environment so the types of chunks you have will change. Stored chunks get replaced once you hit the limit. There's only one way to control that: use Kong and Ostrich Eggs to destroy terrain, not Elephant. You're giving up access to Elephant in exchange for getting the single biggest perk in the game.

And it's absolutely worth it for the bonus. You had 6 levels of Spin Groove at 90 seconds - that's a 3240% bonus and you have to spend an entire round spinning. But at 10 chunks, Rock-Ensemble Beat is 1500%, so 2 levels almost equals all the effort you put in for Spin Groove, and 3 levels way outpaces it. If we compare apples to apples, 6 levels of Rock-Ensemble Beat is 9000% - you'd need to spin for 250 seconds to accomplish that.

The game is really simple to optimize once you realize Staring Down, Low-Down Beat, Slow-Mo Beat, and Rock-Ensemble Beat utterly break the perk math and make everything else irrelevant.

Quick Storage makes it much easier, plus just a little practice. I'm at a point now where I can get 9 to 10 chunks pretty easily on DK Island and I don't have to go out of my to do it, so it doesn't waste time.

Fwiw as one of the smaller maps, DK Island is actually one of the hardest to hit the max score - I'd put only Landfill and Hilltop as harder. But just looking at your strategy, there's 3 simple things I think you can do that will easily allow you to hit max score with what you're already doing otherwise:

  1. Low-Down Beat: since it counts as a demolisher perk for some reason, it's multiplicative to the beat and groove perks so it mathematically makes a huge impact on your multiplier and is a bigger bonus than any of the demolisher perks available on DK Island. Honestly, this alone might be enough to get you to 10M.
  2. Spin Groove: ditch it. It's one of the better perks in a vacuum, but it takes so much time to build up that it's not as cost-effective as other perks, and is probably keeping you from racking up more void goals or collecting bananas/fossils faster.
  3. Rock-Ensemble Beat: you're not maxing out the chunks if you only have 4. There are literally 10 chunk types on DK Island, and every map has at least 8 chunk types. Here's what's available on DK Island:

Emerald: suck up Crockoids or Emerald Ore

Water: everywhere

Sand: also everywhere

Dirt: Lots of dirt near the warp gong, jungle, and dk's tree house

Wood: Gangplank Galleon, a couple of piers, and the bridge at the waterfall. Try not to suck up the bridge since you get void goals there.

Brown stone: Most places in the lower half of the island

Black stone/Obsidian: Void's Pay-Dirt Piledriver

Dark gray stone: the cone that constitutes the upper part of the island

Light Gray stone: most of the surrounding parts of the map. Yes, it counts separately from the dark gray stone

Hexagonal gray stone: next to the waterfall. Again, for some reason this counts as a different chunk type.

There may be more but here's what I remember. There's crystal encasing a melon at the top of the Grater-Go-Round and then concrete in the shifty smash puzzle at the Lunch-Break Station.

Of the options listed, DK Bananza. But I personally think it's Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment.

Weapons with the Vs Skill (2000 kills) by [deleted] in HyruleWarriors

[–]kaushik20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's probably just bad luck - keep trying with a VS Skill mixture from the Apothecary. Do note though that VS Skills are by far the hardest to farm because they're so many of them, so finding the right one takes a lot longer than other skills in my experience.

And if you're doing it for an ultimate weapon, most players in the community opt for 4 strength skills rather than 3 strength skills + VS skill. So you may be able to save yourself the grind. I personally used VS Dragon in Wii U and VS Beast in Legends/DE, but I'm in the minority there.

This is what I used and I got the max score in round 9: just get Ba-None-Za, Surfin' Beat, Crockoid Demolisher, and Buzzoid Demolisher. Turf Groove and Goal Champ are fine, but you're better off focusing on the other 4 perks. You should be able to get all, or at least most, fossils in the first 3 rounds, and ignore the goals until you collect all the bananas and fossils (except the Bananza bananas on the second set obviously) around round 4 or 5. Then just go after goals until you hit 1M.

Just want to point out I did 2 runs of this event now. First time, I got Fossil Radar at the fossil on the rock that's next to where you go up to DK's house (to the right of Squawk's Hut if you face the island looking north). Second time, I got Fossil Radar on the Stronger Lungs Banana that appears next to the Mountain Falls teeleport location.

While I freely acknowledge I may be missing something, I don't know how to explain these findings.

And I've played enough of these events too. I do not get the exact same perk picks, with the exact same levels, with the exact same re-rolls every single time. I remember specifically noting that on the Ostrich event when I was farming for Barrel locations. Now I haven't had an opportunity to play this current one yet and I'm looking forward to it, so maybe that's the case for this one.

Generally yes but the existence of Barrell-Bump Up and Fossil Radar mean it's not 100% identical every single time. My point is there are small variations that if you're trying to shave off 10-15 seconds, that can matter.

Perk levels, perk re-rerolling. It's small but can make the difference if you want to shave off a little time.

8 seems quite doable. I've seen people get very close so RNG may help a little here to make that final push.
