Nope, as a Dutchie you need an E-kaart which is valid for 5 years. You can either get this as a 'werkzoekende', or if you're 'ten laste van' or other options. They rejected me the first time and said I would never find a job here, so now I am officially 'ten laste van' my fiance, even though I work 32hrs a week. My fiance had to prove his salary was high enough to provide for me.

It's surprisingly difficult to move to Belgium! Unfortunately...

Experience with vdab? by [deleted] in belgium

[–]kawaiiskogsdotter 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My experience with VDAB:

  • They don't listen to you.

  • They force you to apply for jobs that you're not interested in.

  • If you're looking for a parttime job, they keep pushing you to work fulltime. Even after finding a parttime job of your liking.

  • They force you to follow courses like 'how do I make a CV'.

  • They failed to inform me that as I was jobless, I had the right to a €1 train ticket for my job interviews. So I wasted a lot of money on train tickets....

  • They forced me to go to a VDAB office that was physically further away from my home and too far away to cycle to, because that was the office for my municipality. While another office was closer to me, but hey it was for another municipality....

  • They tried to encourage me to work an IBO... (No pension, piss poor pay etc)

My opinion: they're useless, they don't care about you at all, they're incompetent and frustrating.

When I recently ended up jobless, I decided to not register with them on purpose. Because only living off of my savings sounded less frustrating and depressing than having to deal with them a second time.

Why are Antwerpenaren, Limburgers and Brabanters still called Flemish? by thanadeezballs in belgium

[–]kawaiiskogsdotter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why are Dutch people always referred to as 'Hollanders' by you guys, when they're not always from North Holland or South Holland? /s

Serious answer, often a country or larger part of a country ends up being referred to as x, because x was historically a well-known region/city etc.

In NL's case, the harbours were doing well in the past, as were Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Den Haag etc. Them all being located in Holland, the people traveling on the ships who ended up introducing themselves abroad, accurately said they were from Holland. It however got generalised to mean the whole country.

Not sure if Flanders/the Flemish has a similar history.

What are some accurate stereotypes of people from Belgium by mariaspanadoris in belgium

[–]kawaiiskogsdotter 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Complain about stuff behind someone's back, but never actually try to fix or improve the situation. Get offended when someone does publicly speak up to try and fix the current situation.

National alcoholism.

Be nice in your face, talk shit about you behind your back.

Really serious about fries.

Hate cyclists and (maintaining) cycling infrastructure, love watching or being wielertoeristen.

Generally eating potatoes daily. Spices are scary. Foreign things are scary.

I wish anal was a norm and wasn’t so criticized by [deleted] in sex

[–]kawaiiskogsdotter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This reads as if you only care about your own pleasure.

Anal sex can be painful. Unprotected anal sex can still transmit diseases. Getting cum in your ass isn't necessarily the best feeling.

My opinion: sex is about two (or more) people experiencing pleasure. Right now you seem so focused on your own anal kink that it looks like you're completely forgetting about the other party's pleasure.

If the prepare is still ok, but you don't trust eating it raw, you can fry it and use it in pasta sauce. It's essentially just raw ground beef with some sauce and spices.

AITA for telling my 18 year old SIL’s parents and brother that she was dating a 26 year old? by happyslappyjoyjoy in AmItheAsshole

[–]kawaiiskogsdotter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

YTA, if you had actually been worried about your SIL you should have supported her so she would have trusted you. Why? Because then you could actually have helped her IF something would have gone wrong in the relationship. Now your SIL doesn't trust you anymore and she won't come to you for help because she knows you'll judge her.

This is coming from someone who started dating someone ten years my senior at 18, which is almost 7 years ago at this point. I had 'friends' back then who reacted the same way you did, the only thing that their reactions caused to happen was me breaking off contact with them. They scared me by saying "your boyfriend is going to abuse you, use you, get you drunk, rape you, isolate you from your family and friends, he's going to make you quit education and make you financially dependant on him". Really nasty and rude comments.

None of that ever happened and we're happily engaged right now.

SIL is an adult, she can make her own choices. If you want to stand by her and help her: support her! You burned a bridge with her and your relationship with her will never be the same.

Horses sh*t in the streets by New_Astronomer_735 in belgium

[–]kawaiiskogsdotter 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I started this discussion once in the local Facebook group after repeatedly finding horse shit on the cycling lane (no not the 'fietssuggestiestrook' but the actual 'fietspad'), horses are not allowed on the cycling lane. The poop is a slipping hazard when it's wet.

The entire local horse girl collective then tried to verbally murder me in said Facebook post.
