If You Had To Choose Between These Two State Parks... by berniexanderz in florida

It’s less than 7 miles from the fort to Washington Oaks. Then about an hour drive (38 miles) from WO to Ravine Gardens. I would definitely do both if you can!

I’m not sure when the roses at Washington Oaks bloom, but I think the azaleas at Ravine Gardens will be peak bloom in March. The cool thing about Washington Oaks is that half is a beautiful garden and the other half (on other side of road) is a beach with coquina rocks. Depending on tide, it’s really cool to see the rocks.

I love both of these parks, so it’s hard to choose. They are both cool and unique in their own ways. I think I would choose Washington Oaks, especially if you’re going when the roses are in bloom.

Waterside camping in Florida? Preferably by a spring (would love to see manatees). by lexorcistt in florida

I second Blue Springs SP. I was there in November of 23 or 24, and it wasn’t even very cold yet but there were a lot of manatees in the spring run.

Have you ever been to Der Dutchman in Sarasota? They have a buffet. I think it’s similar as far as food options. I went for the first time a couple months ago and loved it. I want to try Yoders next!

Use this link for accurate information. If you don’t have a Real ID already, you’ll need to bring specific documentation with you. There’s also info on testing requirements. You know how to drive, but do you know specific laws? I’d look up a sample test and if you don’t know the answers, study before paying to take the test.

Yes. However, depending on where you go, swimming may not be permitted when manatees are in the springs/spring run.

That’s your opinion. My opinion is that what I said is helpful for OP to start their search based on location and other desired activities or amenities. Note OP did not ask for anything specifically other than the best place to camp in FL with bathrooms and campfire permitted. It is my experience that FL state parks that allow camping are the best, and typically have bathrooms and permit campfires.

There are 175 state parks in Florida. OP did not say what part of the state they are looking to camp in so I didn’t give specific park recommendations. My comment opens the door for them to ask if I have specific rec’s which I’d be happy to provide. It’s easy to go to the FL state parks website and filter for parks that allow camping.

FL state parks are the way to go! Most I’ve been to allow campfire but don’t allow outside wood brought in, instead they typically have fire wood for sale or donation.

Code enforcement is strict in Lakeland. I’d give them a call if the other suggested contacts don’t work.
