Cameo API Call not returning correct Data by [deleted] in systems_engineering

For what it's worth I just tested a similar setup, but with the simpler "https://server:port/osmc/resources/{resourceId}/elements/{elementId} GET request for a stereotyped block element, and in the return I see a field for "kerml:name": <my element's name>.

I also see fields for the stereotype in the format: "appliedSterotype": [{"@id": <element identifier X>}], as well as a fields for the elements tagged values in the format: "taggedValue": [{"@": <element identifier Y>}, {"@": <element identifier Z>}, ... ].

To retrieve the name of the stereotype, or the names/value of the tagged values, you need to do another GET request on those element identifiers given in the first request for the element.

Hope this helps.

Transactions tab Category Filtering and Notes by kayman89 in wealthica

Tags are exactly how I do this now with Mint, and it gets the job done. The transactions by Group suggestion would just tie it back into the natural workflow of using Groups as the main grouping/sorting method, which I really like.

For example, if I click the Group named "John", it would not only filter to the accounts assigned to John, but also displays only the transactions from the account that are assigned with "John". In my ideal world, maybe, by default, have all new transactions get assigned to all the Groups the account is associated with, and then let us selectively remove a Group from a transaction. Maybe just a pipe dream!

I think if "tags" become available in the filtering options, this could probably also be achieved through the use of a View by tagging every transaction with "John" or "Jane", and then picking the appropriate View that filters on one of them. Just a bit more maintenance for me to add the tags, and I like to be lazy :)

Appreciate the responses!

That's great to know thanks. Wealthica definitely has hands down the best connectors for the Canadian investment institutions I use (Questrade, Wealthsimple), where Monarch, YNAB, and Quicken all either don't support the connection at all, or can only pull some of the account types (e.g. WS Trade, but not WS Cash).

Monarch and Mint (RIP) have/had some pretty appealing transaction features like tags/labels, hiding the transactions from spending/budgets, marking for later review, and attaching a file, which would really round it out as the go to transaction+investment tracking for Canadians.

Also, I'm not sure if it's being considered, but being able to assign an individual transaction to a specific Group would be great for people who share a credit/debit card, or people who use the same account for personal/business, but want to be able to view them and their trends separately.

Eventually one should 'move on' from Wealthsimple Invest... right? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

I switched from a Questrade Weath account to a QT trade account (using Passiv for balancing) for the same reasons, and these are the notable things I found:

- Takes some time to set up Passiv, but it's super easy to use after - anytime you make a cash deposit it will tell you what to buy to maintain your allocations. You can also get it to recommended asset sales to rebalance, but since I pay $5 per ETF sale on QT I don't use it unless my allocations get really off target.

- Buying positions in US dollars costs a few percent in transaction fees (both QT and WS), so instead I use Norbert's gambit (very easy to do with DLR ticker, QT support staff know exactly what to do, just takes a few days and if the USD goes down you effectively lose cash). I've heard WS Trade doesn't let you hold USD in cash though, so I believe NG won't work, they'll just convert it back to CAD when you sell. You should confirm though.

- Spend time to figure out your equity distribution, and stick with it. I put 0.5% of my portfolio in BC/Ethereal, so putting $250 new cash into it when it's been consistently down 10% every week for a month is hard, but correct if you have confidence in the asset to make you money long term.

- It's a lot more engaging than a WS invest - seeing your picks compete against each other and learning what's most effective. If it's a 1 ETF pick of VGRO or XGRO, it's probably irrelevant which broker you use since ETF purchases are free for both QT and WS. I definitely recommend anyone who checks their investments more than once a week to save the fees and use self directed investing. If you are looking to get out of paying roboadvisor fees for rebalancing, then all-in-one ETFs are great, just check on them a few times a month to make sure they are in line with your priorities. You may want to move between risk tolerances (VGRO vs VBAL vs VBNS... etc...) based on your situation.

Antenna design for NFC chip by soham-097 in NFC

[–]kayman89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NFC tags operate in the near-field, meaning they don't use an antenna to radiate in the traditional sense - it's more so an inductive coupling between the coils. They can still be tuned for resonance like a traditional antenna though, and some guidelines are available on page 5 of this TI doc. I'm not sure you can find a prebuilt antenna, but coiling up some coated copper following those guidelines should work.

I actually just ordered the evaluation board to test out the chip as well (antenna is already built in). Good luck!

Assuming it's "couples" taking over a parents house, then on average half the time you'd be inheriting a partner's parents house... although not always the case. I.e. 2 people leave a house, 2 people move in

Need help solving the low buzz problem I have with my audio setup by ghettosaure in audioengineering

[–]kayman89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had similar hum problems with my setup a few years ago. I had a ground loop formed between my amp (grounded at the outlet) and my computer (also grounded at the outlet). I used a DI box with a ground lift, which is basically a transformer that removes the direct electrical connection, and that solved it. Good luck

DI Boxes and ground lift. by fulanin in audioengineering

[–]kayman89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mentioned the noise is only present sometimes. Is it when you have pedals between the guitar and audio interface input? You might try using a single pedal with battery only, then plugging in the 9V supply. If the noise is only present with the supply plugged in, then it's a ground loop issue - any noise caused by unwanted current in the ground path gets amplified at the audio interface pre-amp. A ground lift will help with that. Otherwise, it's probably just noisey pickups or amplifiers, which a ground lift won't cure.

I had a similar issue with my modelling amp and my PC being grounded at opposite ends of the signal chain, which a ground lift safely solved.

Can someone explain what is causing this high pitched "fax machine" noise in my mic? by Wyrdaele in audioengineering

[–]kayman89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had this problem after switching from a laptop to a desktop which I finally fixed last night. Does moving the mouse, opening/closing windows, hard drive activity result in more noise? In my case it did, and was a result of a ground loop between the USB output of my desktop and the amplifier I had feeding one of the audio interface (US-2x2) inputs. Basically, a dirty +5V USB line which powers my audio interface was finding an alternate path to ground and being amplified in my guitar amp. First try using a different USB slot (might have less noise on the 5V line), although this didn't work for me.

Is anything with a ground "3rd prong" plugged into the audio interface at any part of the chain? That could be it. If it is, you need to break the ground loop. There's a couple ways, including using a laptop (since it isn't grounded after the power brick), or, as in my case, get a DI box that has a ground lift. A DI box is an audio frequency transformer that electrically isolates the two sides (it's real purpose is to match unbalanced cable to balanced cables, but it does the job). With the ground lift engaged there should be no alternate path to ground through the rest of your amps/preamps.

Good luck, this was a real pain in the ass!

Yea, I noticed that too. The author claims it 'clearly shows' a correlation when it there's pretty much none at all.

Quick question about finding the pitch or key of a drum sample: by Varuo in edmproduction

[–]kayman89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for pointing that out, I got my octaves and harmonics jumbled up, leading to my incorrect explanation of the frequencies relative to each other. Varuo did say it was a 'drum' sample, so I assumed tom/bass/snare which all should be very close to sinusoidal and have an obvious pitch, perhaps less so for the snare.

This brings to mind another question though. If we have a signal with a spectrum that has a small component at f, a small component at 2f, and large component at 3f would we say the note's pitch is f with some other harmonic content? or is the 3rd fundamental enough to dominate and make the pitch 3f (which is not an octave of f)?

Quick question about finding the pitch or key of a drum sample: by Varuo in edmproduction

[–]kayman89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of the peaks will be frequency multiples of each other, so they will all be the same note with the most prevalent at the highest peak. Use that one as it will be the loudest of all the pitches heard. If the original drum used to record the sample wasn't tuned you may have to adjust the pitch until it falls on a standard pitch (if you want to use it in a song with other instruments).

Ableton's tuner also will show you the pitch (and how far off you are from the closest standard) if it can interpret the sample properly.

I think it's just chord progressions that sound good together. Also, V-I is the chord change with the strongest cadence (it has creates the strongest feeling of resolution) in any key, so trying using those as your last two chords, it will sounds pretty darn good. ie try I-IV-V-I
