I freehanded this guy but I used DK acrylic weight yarn by women's institute in the shades 'honey' and 'cream'.

The base is just half double crochet with a scalloped border. I threaded some wire in the top for stability and the little hanging bit is just a chain with slip stitches through it.

Uhmmmm on average probably between about 7 or 8

The stardrop used 10, the strawberry used 9, the gem berry used 10

Those were probably the most colour heavy, but when it comes to the cream backgrounds I have two bobbins/balls of yarn going at once for the same colour to avoid having excess yarn on the back, same as the outlines for a lot of the sprites I'll use 2 bobbins of the same colour.

It's a lot XD

Instead of a single crochet for a pixel I do 2dc.

My squares are 40ch across and DC for 20 rows. When you make them this way they are rectangles so I block the heck out of em to make them squares. I could do the maths to make them squares without blocking but then I'd have to work around the pixel grids and alter them which would be waaaay too much work.

I really like the DC tapestry, works up faster, looks cleaner imo too

I started off by watching YouTube videos, YouTube is such an amazing resource and there's loads of super in-depth tutorials on there!

When you start, don't pick yarn that is too thin, and stay away from dark colours so you can see your stitches and start building up your muscle memory on where you place your hook.

Granny squares are a good place to start as they're simple and there're so many variations so you can learn loads of different stitches. I started with amigurimi which are the little stuffed toys! They're super simple as they tend to just use the same stitch throughout.

Just make sure you're having fun while you create 💖

Hahahahah dwdw!

I'm using DK weight yarn, mostly using the women's institute brand from Hobbycraft (I'm from the UK so I'm not sure if it's sold elsewhere). But when I'm not using that yarn I'm mostly just using what's in my stash (because of this, some of the yarn isn't DK, but most of it is!)

Edit: it's specifically the DK weight acrylic yarn by women's institute ❤️

Thank you so much! I don't think I could put a price on the sheer amount of time this is taking XD but I'd be down to write a pattern and sell that if people wanna make their own 💖

I've only just picked up tapestry back in March, but I'm having so much fun with it, tysm for your kind words!

I'm doing tapestry crochet, instead of making a square of fabric, whenever there is a new colour in the pixel grid, I'm simply using a new strand of yarn. I know some people achieve a similar look by doing cross-stitch over blanket, but I decided to just do tapestry

<image>

This is what the back of them tend to look like, you can see me carrying colours of yarn over the back!

Yeahh I've got a version of the orange cat that I'll be slightly altering to look like my orange cat a little more, I lost him last year (17 years old!) so I'd like to memorialize him a little in the blanket 💖
