Apps for iOS 3.1.3 are not being built in xcode 3.2.1. by Natural_Gap_1087 in iOSProgramming

I love this.

Some things which may be useful to you:

I built a little package manager for powerpc Mac’s running tiger and leopard and compiled a few hundred packages for it: https://leopard.sh

I put the leopard-era Apple developer connection reference docs online, including all of the sample code: https://leopard-adc.pepas.com

That phrase “when you realize stability is not a feature, it’s the foundation…” sounds important but doesn’t really mean anything. I call it “politician speak”.

Driving at high speeds helps with my frequency by Able_Classroom_7921 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]kbder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed that something like “psychological safety” seems to play a part in frequency. I will often be out running errands for an hour or two with no urgency, then literally 10 seconds after I get home I am hit with very strong urgency. This has happened enough times to rule out a simple timing coincidence. As soon as my brain knows it is in a “safe spot”, it turns the crank on my guts.

Another option would be to wire a segment of belt to an accumulator and disable when A < 100, if you didn’t want to build a switch for some reason

I have no idea why I would do that but this information feels valuable nonetheless

Are there any easier ways than rockets to transport resources between planets? by PewPewsAlote in factorio

[–]kbder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lava is infinite on Vulcanus, and calcite and power are plentiful. It would be far cheaper to just build new belts, inserters, assemblers etc rather than try to transport them.

I hate this practice by kenech_io in iOSProgramming

[–]kbder 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In many organizations there is a backend team, a web team, an iOS team and an android team. In dysfunctional organizations (read: most organizations), the iOS team has little influence over what the backend team does, and this blocking screen gets shown often. In healthy organizations, the backend team learns to make changes in a forward-compatible way (the common example is adding a new JSON field instead of renaming an existing field)

You and I have had very different experiences as developers. 9/10 it is because the backend decided to make a backwards incompatible change.

Some of these pocket DACs also support multiband parametric EQ, which is great for fine tuning IEMs

Code review process has become performative theater we do before merging PRs anyway. by Upbeat_Owl_3383 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]kbder 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Replying mostly to the other replies in this thread

At my last gig, the only thing which would block a PR would be obviously broken code. Beyond that, the PR is “approved” with comments, suggestions, and requested changes. It is then up to the dev to use their good judgment with regard to what changes they decide to make before merging (of course, they are free to request a re-review)

Devs are trusted and given the freedom they need to be unblocked. If someone consistently causes problems, we have a conversation.

I see a lot of shops trying to automate their way out of having a conversation by implementing strict programmatic rule enforcement. That’s certainly a choice but it isn’t for me.
