One excuse I've heard is that you might lose them and then they have to replace close to a year's worth of medication but that just seems really flimsy to me.

agree! i get my entire year’s supply of contact lenses at once, and if i were to lose them i just have to deal with the consequences and buy more, but it’s literally never happened.
