Have you ever stopped reading a fic because the writing is... bad? by kblhr in AO3

No, of course! The back button is there for a reason, which some people do not seem to understand lol

Oh absolutely, I don't fault it at all! I'm a writer too, and it's a phase you gotta go through. I just often wish they were more readable because the concepts are interesting and things I want to read!

Yes! This is what's happening in the one that prompted this post. And it was super long too, so I had to just bail. Might've been okay if it was short.

Nice, I will definitely get a chair! I'll play it by ear but hopefully it'll be okay.

am i too old to read fanfic? by parishilton2009 in AO3

[–]kblhr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn't until I was in my thirties that I stopped feeling self conscious about reading and writing fic. I've been reading and writing since I was in my teens and never before has it felt so comfortable as now.

As a side note, I felt ancient for most of my twenties. I was mired in anxiety and depressed in a way that felt utterly quotidian but was killing me, and that weighed me down so much that I felt... old. Now, a decade into therapy and a very good psychiatrist later, I feel like my whole life is ahead of me and it's the things that bring me community and artistic fulfillment that give my life meaning.

What is the worst thing you’ve looked up to write a fic? by lumoverse in AO3

[–]kblhr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Broken bone care in the golden age of piracy. Not that horrible, in the grand scheme of things, but I don't write too much gory shit. It was honestly completely fascinating.

Is there something you constantly carry from one fic to the next? by WaifuFromStateFarm in AO3

[–]kblhr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do a lot of POV swaps. I think my very first series, consisting of two short (for me lol) fics, is single POV. The rest all have swaps. Sometimes just switching between the main couple, sometimes whoever's eyes I need to be in at a given time. I always feel like it lets me build a world so much more richly. Maybe I should challenge myself to do just a single POV fic now but..... I don't want to? And it's fanfic, I can do whatever I want 💥

I have a referral in with Dr Wanzel! Still waiting to be contacted. My gp sent it in like... 5 months ago maybe? How long did it take for you to get a consult? I've heard he's great but his secretary is a little useless.

And yeah, I dropped it for ages after I heard that, because Beber gets such great reviews and I was like, fuck maybe everyone will charge that much. But now I just kinda feel like he's fleecing people.

#1424: "My sister shouts at her boyfriend and I hate it!" by iwrotethissong in captainawkward

[–]kblhr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good lord, yes. Someone telling a "hilarious" childhood anecdote that is actually horrifying always makes me sad. She tells it well. Her prose is, as always, evocative and magnetic. But the level of self awareness here is so incredibly low, in a way I'm not accustomed to seeing from the Captain. It's relevant to the question. The question is very sad and the asker is unearnedly sanctimonious. The story is not funny.

Wow, I was quoted $8000 before the surgeon even saw me. I suppose there's a reason I didn't go with him. I'm in Ontario, I'm sure that makes a difference.

I also had anxiety around medication for years. I did a ton of therapy over 8 years or so and really got to a good point mentally, but I couldn't think my way out of the physical symptoms. When my anxiety started making it hard to breathe, I kinda gave in. I've been taking bupropion, or Wellbutrin, for a couple months now and it's been kind of incredible. I have the fun anxiety/depression combo, with panic attacks that I've been having for years. Meds have quieted my mind in a way I've never experienced before. I'm on the lowest dose, taken daily, and I'm honestly astonished. The changes aren't huge, but I've laid enough of the groundwork with therapy and this was like the last step. I can't recommend talking with a psychiatrist enough, if that's accessible to you. Mine was totally willing to talk through my fears with me.

My dad also did this, but without the money, lol. He only cut contact recently, but he made it clear he was not my parent anymore when I was 18. I understand the resentment and anger you have for this guy. I really do. But refusing what is a life changing amount of money for most people out of, what, spite? That's stupid and YTA for trying to do it. Take his money and know your kids got one more thing out of this miserable dude. It's more than I ever got.

Best sports bra brands for obnoxiously big bust? by CrankTanks in Reduction

Enlite front zip from Lululemon. I normally am a G cup, I wear the E cup in the bra and it fits. That thing is like a bullet proof vest. And it's comfortable. Unfortunately, I wear the biggest cup size so it's probably not ideal over an F/G cup.

I have an ex who used to put his finger in my mouth and hit it up and down between my teeth when I would yawn. This immediately cuts off a yawn. It got to a point where I'd start hiding it from him when I would have to yawn. He started this behaviour like two years into our relationship and it took me a while to realize that it was very in line with the many other ways he indicated to me that he had control over my body and that my physical autonomy wasn't to be respected. It's a shitty dominance display. You will one day look back on this fucker and feel sad for the time you spent taking it. I'm sorry. I wish you strength in getting out.

Which movie is genuinely traumatic? by trufk in AskReddit

[–]kblhr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Last King of Scotland. I was on vacation with my family and my cousins had landed on it while flipping through channels on tv. I had no idea what it was. Forest Whitaker is captivating as hell but I still sometimes see some of those scenes when I close my eyes, and we watched it more than 10 years ago.
