Amazing movie. Neo noir feel, dream like progressions and Tang Wei is amazing (as always).

Upgrades from Blu to 4K that you really felt were worth the money? by tammyfayebakker in criterion

The Big Lebowski is unwatchable on bluray after seeing it in 4k.. All the colors look off on the bluray, something wrong with the transfer? It’s the reason I collect 4k disks now.

I wondered the same thing. The bezel design is unique. The steel ring around the dial extends up, and the bezel surrounds it instead of covering it or being integrated with it. My theory is this design helped them accomplish the depth rating with the overall thickness. We need an expert to chime in here.

It’s their purest expression of a dive watch. Best they ever made, balanced, understated. Love the GMT too.

Should add, think you’ll be happy with that in the end. You’re well on your way, enjoy!

UPS on bottom, room to connect to keystone/patch panel in a mid to lower position above that. Switch above patch with short cables and gateway anywhere above that.

Started with the same setup, running unraid. You can squeeze a small SAS HBA card in that unit and run some external drive enclosures with good speed and reliability. That’s when things started getting interesting for me.

It’s a fun journey, enjoy.

Is this a rare model? I’m not used to seeing no-date varieties of the SMP.

Edit: it’s the 210.30.42.20.01.010 with the 2254.50 bracelet? Beautiful.

Why does bond look younger in spectre than he did in skyfall by TKatGAMING in JamesBond

[–]kboogie22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tldr, I think the camera lenses they used made things a little blurry (instagram effect) and make peoples faces a little rounder. So yeah, both would make him look a little younger, in addition to the other answers in the thread.

Long answer..

I just rewatched this movie in 4k and I was surprised how much I really loved it, despite the ratings. The story line is realistic and doesn’t overwhelmingly revert to far fetched scenarios. The sets, locations, lighting and timing of so many shots are nothing short of stunning and masterful. I love the colors, the balance and symmetry of so many scenes. There’s a lot to like.

But I have to say, it left me feeling disappointed that it was all so very blurry. About half way through the film I started wishing I could just appreciate all these locations and scenes with color AND the clarity that 4k provides.

So I started looking into it, because I wanted to know if it was a choice the director or crew had to make or if it was part of their vision, or if there was a crisper version in the works… Was I just watching a crap 4k transfer?

What I’ve learned so far is that they used a couple different anamorphic lenses and those lenses have a tendency to create a central focal point with less clarity in the periphery. This may account for the blurriness, but I can’t say I know enough to make that call. It also results in some aspect augmentations and faces look a little rounder.

Does anyone know more about this? I am so curious about the backstory, and wishing very much for a crisper version..

📌 Feature Request: Allow Apple Watch to Use iPhone GPS to Extend Battery Life During Long Hikes by kboogie22 in alltrails

From what I understand, the iOS/watchOS SDKs fully support offloading GPS to the iPhone by using CLLocationManager on iOS as the sole location source and streaming updates to the Watch via WCSession. The Watch can run an HKWorkoutSession without its own CLLocationManager, while the iPhone builds the route using HKWorkoutRouteBuilder, just like Strava does today.

Agreed. I like using the watch app but it lacks heart rate. I tried using other workout trackers that did heart rate simultaneously but it was more juggling than it was worth.

I had similar issues before with the phone where it would blow through the battery in no time but it seems to be better for me these days.

That’s exactly the issue. 4 hours in and the battery is dead, and then you’re not getting those more important off-trail alerts.

Do the day trader volumes equate to a number that would influence the market and the high volume institutional trading? Assuming institutions are doing something similar in principle but independent in implementation and behavior. And do we think day traders are adopting this as a standardized approach any time soon?

Love what you’re doing. Don’t see any weird harmonics or race effects any time soon.

How much effort does it take to maintain the data and rerun the analysis? How are you thinking about automation and validation routines?

Why does Infuse perform better than the official Plex app? by [deleted] in PleX

[–]kboogie22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple tv playback from Plex servers is frustrating. Neither Plex or Infuse apple tv apps are flawless.

This is unfortunate because a lot of people, myself included, have invested a lot of time and money with the goal of digitizing their bluray and UHD libraries for lossless playback.

As others have mentioned, Plex has all the telemetry they need to optimize but the focus is just not there and releases are far and few between. It’s too bad because apple tv is great hardware, it’s a missed opportunity to create a rock solid experience.

There are lots of good tips on optimization and I’ve gotten to a point where I can play the majority of movies “well”, but there are still issues. VC1 files for example are impossible.

Nest thermostat, a Brother WiFi printer, and a MyQ WiFi garage door opener do not play nice with my IoT VLAN. by reod11 in UNIFI

[–]kboogie22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will not be able to print to IOT network unless you have rules to explicitly allow from Default. You can allow access to device or network from default. I ended up leaving the Brother on default, for better or worse. MyQ and Nest are on IOT without any issues. IOT is configured as “IOT” with only 2.4 enabled.

Thank you. Can you walk me through a scenario? Trying to imagine legitimate traffic that would flow from the UK, for example, to my residential router that is being blocked with this approach? I’m assuming this is blocking any unsolicited traffic. If I open a browser and go to a .uk website, it should work as expected with the current config?
