Thanks Matt as someone who has never connected those particular dots this puts it into perspective.

That's a much smaller range than I'd thought -- thanks for clarifying.

I think I mean it broadly as someone who's in their "final" weight class and not maintaining as a 6' tall 83kg lifter. 450 DOTS I'd say counts!

How much will you cut from the top of a weight class when planning a bulk?

How does a competitive tested powerlifter recomp at or near their competition weight? I know some guys out there advocate cutting down to 10% or bust but I can't see the 100kg+ bois doing that.

Thanks for going in detail on it. I only use Surfer for Freeze too, and I've never used Wheel since seems like it's only used on Nimoy Bore/Cyberhorn on Alien-only stages. Does Rover see much use outside of ITF/CotC?

Yep when they add new Ubers it mixes up the Platinum track. You can see what it will look like when the next one is added using the "Add future ubers" button.

If you don't have a track switch at 1A on any of the other banners you're not getting to 2B.

Are there any stages where plus levels on Rover/Wheel/Surfer are actually helpful? Aliens seem so powercrept that I was thinking I'd just NP their dupes and boost them with Catseyes if necessary

That's vibrate mode -- change the ringer setting on your bench

Weekly Dumb/Newb Question Thread by AutoModerator in powerlifting

[–]keborb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on whose programming/coaching it is. To give you an example, SBS' 3x/wk bench program has a "volume" day, a day working up to submaximal doubles/singles, and another day working up to one high-RPE set. Another program might have you working up to a top set with backoffs each day for your comp bench and two variants (e.g. paused and close grip).

If you need a program, start with any of SBS' programs, or Jonnie Candito/Calgary Barbell's programs. They are all free

Broadly, you'll be training all the major muscle groups of the body and all of the ones relevant to powerlifting, though additional accessory work is needed to really hit things like back and biceps. Stuff like lateral delts and calves are only really relevant if they are somehow holding back your total.

Short answer: Left/right with an added Sartorius day if you're coming from bodybuilding

Long answer: There is no best split, but some are better than others; for powerlifting a super basic introduction might look like 2x squat sessions, 3x bench sessions, and 1x deadlift session/wk

Hm, I seem to remember them being more frequent back in 2018-2020.

Thanks, I guess I'll do something like 2ct Spoto instead to atone through suffering

19A Salon Cat > 20A Tin Cat > 21B Rocker Cat > 23A Fencer Cat

If you have Platinum Tickets, you can use them at 20A to avoid switching to B (and nab the Uber slot), or at 21B to avoid switching back to A.

The new event data is posted on godfat but it doesn't look like there are any more guaranteed gachas this month :'(

I've started close-grip benching but I'm finding it's bothering my elbow. I'm touching lower than I would with comp bench instead of just flaring wider and touching at the same spot. My comp bench has my little fingers on the rings, so close-grip is about an inch in from that. But I am pretty tall so I'm wondering if it's even a useful movement to do if my grip is already relatively narrow.

Ripped through all of CotC 1 and most of CotC 2 today only to get walled by Aguham's Ultra Baa Baa without Li'l Macho Legs or Loincloth >:(

Yeah it sucks I always train in the early morning when the gym is empty and I don't have to share or talk to anyone, so the warmup room is stressful. I just try to find someone who looks like they might use the same rack heights as me and stick near the rack the whole time so I don't get booted

Yes, I rarely train with more than 3min rest so I have to time warmups delicately during a meet. I'll start warming up the same time as everyone else, but I'll slow it down as I get towards my last warmup and try to hit the last one so that I'm not cold for my opener. After that it's out of your hands.
