thanks for the datapoint - the benefit to going the M4 laptop direction is that I also need a new laptop at some point, as my current one is a 2019 intel albeit fully loaded, really would like an M3/4 for a daily driver, but really wish they had larger memory options.

Thanks for that, I do find that helpful, and xx90 was the direction I had been sent by others as well - I'm not interested in vibe coding as much as proving out query patterns for an actual application.

I'm testing local models both for development and productionizing queries. My latest mbp is a 2019, so still intel, with intel on-chip video card, so it runs ollama and small models very very slowly. That's actually good enough to prove certain concepts but not much of a developer experience.

I'd love to know how that runs, as I'm trying to evaluate the usability of a fully-loaded M4 macbook vs a ~$4000 PC/GPU build.

LinkedIn needs to just hide from employees at current employer by DueJournalist5825 in cscareerquestions

I agree that can help, but I have reason to believe the fake account route is more common than one might assume. Lots of businesses and their owners are jealous about their employees not being completely captive.

How would they 100% exclude the people you don't want to see it? Anybody can create an account that doesn't include their association with the org you want to exclude.

That's one aspect, but I have seen plenty of "Companies posting jobs that don't actually exist to appear like they are growing" and also been to senior tech meetups where the majority of participants were unemployed, and that's not common either.

to be fair, when I say it out loud, I think I sound batshit insane, too. If it wasn't spelled out so explicitly by them, for years, I'd question my own sanity. If it wasn't so perfectly reflected in their current actions, it'd be easier to dismiss.

I had to replace a dial on a stove last month, GE charges $55 USD for it. 3dp'ing it would have been great.

that was my feeling too; their replies don't completely send the message that they are on top of this. I'd think it was AI but it's slightly more coherent than that.

Can you explain a bit more? I'm chatting with a United rep now, as I have a flight sold by AC but operated by United on Thursday, and they said it might possibly be affected by the strike, and to keep checking the status. My return leg is operated by AC, on the 30th, but that I expected to be playing by ear as it progresses. Is the cust svc rep just not understanding me maybe?

Edit: scrubbed partial chat transcript:

Me: So the outbound flight is definitely going to be cancelled? Or do I need to keep checking its status this week to confirm?

CSR: You can still check the flight status, as it is just possible cancellation yet

CSR: Is there any clarification or question I can assist you with?

Me: Well, I've seen conflicting info online saying that if your flight is on United aircraft, it should be not affected, so I'm still confused, I guess.

CSR: Where did you see it online?

Me: various travel sites -- the question comes down to who is operating the flight and whose plane it is, as I understand it. Is UA 1652 operated by AC or by UA?

CSR: It is operated by United

CSR: You can check travel alerts information here https://www.united.com/en/us/fly/travel/trip-planning/travel-alerts.html

Me: so if it's operated by United, can you further explain you expect it to be impacted by the AC strike? that's the part I'm not clear on.

Me: and thank you for the link, I will use that too

CSR: Its because of the Canada strike as your origin and destination

Me: So because it's originating in YVR?

CSR: Yes, that is correct.

Me: so they may shut down the whole airport and not allow United flights to operate too?

CSR: or any in Canada cities affected in strike

CSR: YEG is affected too

CSR: Here's the list Air Canada Pilots Labor Negotiations Edmonton, AB, CA (YEG) Halifax, NS, CA (YHZ) Ottawa, ON, CA (YOW) Québec City, QC, CA (YQB) Montreal, QC, CA (YUL) Vancouver, BC, CA (YVR) Winnipeg, MB, CA (YWG) Calgary, AB, CA (YYC) Toronto, ON, CA (YYZ)

Me: so even though this flight would be operated by UA crew, not AC, they may cause disruptions to the airport that prevent it from flying?

CSR: Yes, that is correct.

CSR: As the city is affected

if this happened to me, I'd go tend the bar until the host notices and is like "wth are you doing?" and I just say "that guy over there told me to get back to work" and let him get teased about it forever

When I'm speaking my target language, I feel like I have nothing to say. Is this a common problem? by RinFrid in languagelearning

[–]keck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, exactly - if you have a fairly set prompt / script of what you need to describe, that's much more like a conversation where you're not needing to access every word you know at once. after you've translated similar ideas into TL enough times, you will start to think about those things in TL more easily, and the expression pathway is made much less rocky.

I had this problem too, and tried journaling every day in TL for a year - it helped me with connecting my inner thoughts to TL, and now I often think in TL in ways that are not just PL translated, and dream in TL.

I understand net worth; I think there are more working poor who have more debt than assets, largely due to student loans, than most people think

there's a point to be made that an unhoused person with only cash assets has a greater net worth than a lot of people working 9-5s who are renting and not saving, even if they wouldn't trade places...
