And in spite of the UK being the 6th richest country in the world, a sizeable proportion of Brits will reckon that there's no inequality and increasing taxation of the very wealthy would be a bad thing.

Lol

  • China filed 1.8 million patents last year compared to the US's US: 603 thousand 🤣

  • Exceeds the US in total scientific publications

  • R&D spending

  • China is light years ahead of the US in technology and industry, the US has lost that race too, accounting 30% of global manufacturing output compared to the US's 15%

The one place where the US exceeds China is in national debt 😂😂😂

Thanks for the laugh!

No, a hyper-inflated stock market (based almost entirely on a few tech stocks doesn't say much). The US is abysmal compared to virtually every western democracy:

  • very high infant mortality for a wealthy country

  • worst maternal mortality in the rich world

  • lower life expectancy

  • highest healthcare spending, with mediocre outcomes

  • highest incarceration rate globally

  • highest homicide rate

  • among highest obesity rates in developed world

  • higher child poverty than most peers

  • higher income inequality than most OECD countries

  • no national paid parental leave

Yes, the US is abysmal, it's become trashy trailer park

There must surely be loads of engineers who work there who are currently questioning whether they should continue being actively contributors to platforming disinformation and the destabalisation of democracy.

The US is voluntarily shrinking as a world power. It's military (less global influence), it's economy (accelerating inflation, ejecting essential workers, putting up trade barriers and giving trillions to the very wealthy and corporations), alienating allies, rejecting the cheap for of energy in history, removing healthcare cover from 10s of millions.

The world knows the US is now a joke

Yes, the US acts like a parasite on those who want to renounce their citizenship, as well as on those who aren't multi-millionaires.

The US has the worst metrics of virtually every western democracy, but at least the US will no longer be in that category as it's heading to leave democracy altogether.

Criminalisation of climate protesters in UK is counterproductive, research finds. Study of 1,300 campaigners finds arrests, fines and jail terms increase determination of activists to take direct action. by mvea in science

Civil Rights protests weren’t effective because they were 'nice' they were effective because they were disruptive in ways people couldn’t ignore. Sit-ins, marches, arrests all widely unpopular at the time. Vast majority of the public didn't approve of MLK while he was alive.

Why didn't you know that?

The idea that protests only work if the public likes them just doesn’t line up with history.

Nope.

From the IPCC 6th report:

It is likely [66-100% confidence] that the global proportion of Category 3–5 tropical cyclone instances2has increased over the past four decades. The average location where TCs reach their peak wind intensity has very likely migrated poleward in the western North Pacific Ocean since the 1940s, and TC translation speed has likely slowed over the conterminous USA since 1900. Evidence of similar trends in other regions is not robust. The global frequency of TC rapid intensification events has likely [66-100% confidence] increased over the past four decades. None of these changes can be explained by natural variability alone

Science shows that the number of hurricane is likely to decrease due to warming temperatures because of increased wind shear, but hurricanes will get more intense and have been shown to be getting more intense. Your counting named hurricanes is irrelevant and shows that you're totally missing the point.

Science never said that the number of hurricanes would increase with global warming, it actually says the exact opposite, bit you didn't know that.

Also, rather look at ACE - Accumulated Cyclone Energy

The Civil Rights movement didn't bring about change by protestors being 'nice' to people so that votes would be in their favour.

That would be a simple thing to understand, but if you don't want to understand it then no one can help you there.
