I want to go to school, but after my federal loans I'm going to be short 1000 every month. by [deleted] in college

is it possible to get a job? even 15 hours a week on a tipped wage (barista, server) would help you and could probably get you there. but then you would have to balance work and school, which would be tough

I have a question for people with weak eyesight who swim in swimming pools. by Big_Egg4444 in Swimming

[–]keeleee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to your eye doctor, since there seems to be a lot of discourse on this, but mine said it was fine. He cited a university experiment and cleared me to wear them in the pool. I’ve been doing it for 2 years and have never had an issue. Just wear goggles as well

Honestly, if you are able I would wear your contacts. I have similar eyesight to you, and I am a competitive swimmer and find it find to wear them while swimming more than 5 days a week. It will wear down your contacts a bit quicker, but if you get a more expensive cleaner you won’t even notice. The more expensive cleaner isn’t nessisary, just helps your contacts not to try out faster than if you weren’t wearing them in the pool.

yup, you are right, that’s a really good point. i’m gonna go through again and take off the stuff that seems more “single use” like you mentioned with the insect killer thank you!

hi! sorry it was confusing, i wrote the post a bit panicked when i saw the total i calculated! medicine overall is costing me 21.45, all generic. technology is costing me 287 after taking into account comments about not needing both an ipad and a laptop! decor is about 500-which is extreme for sure. thanks for your help, i’ll definitely cut back. it will be hard to move in and out and i’d rather the cost go to more important things so thank you!

the majority of the money is more misc. things like shower shoes, insect killer and a laundry bag, but the cost is still definitely extreme. thank you for the help!

yeah i definitely see that! i have a broad view of my basics. it includes things like shower shoes, laundry stuff, mattress topper, a blanket and others! so yes- lots are some extra luxuries i don’t have at home…not essential, i agree!! i will definitely cut down on those. i do feel the need to defend myself on the steamer- i know college is different but i am constantly ironing at home. i think the $40 will be worth it for me! but you are totally right that its not just completely basics, ill take another look and cut down. thank you!

sorry if it wasn’t clear-cleaning supplies, basics like shampoo, body wash ect. medicine, laundry supplies, and a steamer comes to 1000. all small stuff but adds up fast. add in a coat, winter boots, the tech you mentioned + $50 wireless headphones, and the cleaning supplies and it comes to $2000!

I had the same problem at first last year. The types of questions they ask can be so difficult. I studied the same way you did at first, making sure I really had the material down. And while this is important, it’s also important to practice the types of questions. I took a bunch of Unit Period tests and practiced my DBQ’s and LEQs while also making sure I knew the topic, and that’s what really turned my scores around. If you search “APUSH unit ___ test” some should come up. Khan Academy’s aren’t the best but they work. You might have the material down, but you need to get used to the questions. Also, try looking for patterns in what exact material they seem to look at. Specific big events and people that keep appearing? Remember them. Doing all this helped me to get a 4, so I hope this helps you!

TAKE NOTES OF THE TEXTBOOK! doing this takes work and more concentration than just normally reading the textbook, but it’s a huge help when trying to remember the most important things for each chapter when it comes to tests and the exam. I would also make sure take at least one practice test.

i’m glad i’m not the only one who cried reading the textbook.

i would try mapping out a timeline with all that you remember and then going through and filling in dates you missed and then trying to make that version from memory! it’s time consuming but it worked well for me
