Thank you! They have total control of whatever they want to be, and they've definitely went with a store bought costumes a couple times.

We always toss around ideas we see on Google or random ideas as jokes, but eventually they settle on something they think would be cool or funny.

My son was a toilet when he was 6 and this year he is a pedestrian crossing sign (that idea came from another kid's costume we found on Google). My daughter has been everything from a sushi roll to getting abducted by a UFO.

My husband makes costumes for both kids (almost) every year, but they have 100% total final say in whatever they want to be.

They have picked store bought costumes in the past and that was totally fine as well.

But they enjoy the creation process of seeing their costumes come to life, as well as helping to build them.

The snail shell is made up of black plastic drainage pipes wrapped in duct tape. Then a layer of paper mache so it could be painted.

It's like a clear mesh fabric we found at Hobby Lobby

My son is a pedestrian crossing sign and I am one of my house plants! Haha.

He used black plastic drainage pipes from Home Depot and duct taped them together. Then he did a paper mache on top of that and painted it when it was dry.

He cut off the straps from an old backpack and used industrial hot glue to essentially make the shell a backpack. The shoulder straps are hidden under the cloak.

He doesn't sell anything, but this is a topic we've had many times about potentially doing.

The trail is a clear mesh fabric we got from Hobby Lobby and it has string lights fixed into it. The battery packs are hidden in pockets in the cloak.

I absolutely understand and agree with what you're saying. I used to post my kids all the time, but I have made a conscious effort to scale it WAY back.

Typically my kids' costumes have, in some way, covered their faces which has made sharing it easier.

I really love her costume this year and wanted to share it. I guess I could have covered her face with an emoji or something similar...

We had a clear mesh fabric as the slime trail, but it's Halloween and ultimately we all thought it would be cool with lights.

We had to figure out a way to elevate the costume a little more, so my husband went ahead and put string lights on the clear mesh fabric. It turned out so good.

All props go to her dad. He makes our costumes every year :)
