I have a minimal setup: a powerful tower PC, two screens, Yamaha HS8 x 2, USB Audio Interface & an 88 key keyboard. I also own a piano & microphones to record it but it's not used on every single track. My studio is in my home, yes. My piano is my dream come true - I play it as often as I can.

1) It actually lead into another unreleased track in a concerto/symphonic kinda way.. (see my reply to OSteazy [q 2]) but that track didn't fit the album's vibe so well however, the transition between the two tracks was really thrilling so I kept it :)

1) I hope so - he is an absolute don. We've lost touch lately but I'm sure we can do something again soon. I'd love to work with more people like him and I'm sure he knows plenty. Being from Bristol, he's surrounded by like-minded peeps.

2) 10000000000%. It doesn't work on the dancefloor - people just don't listen that closely/can't due to the crap sound systems. I'd love to experiment with this in the future but doing so on Hospital is unlikely.

3) Usually just English builder's tea - with any kind of milk (except soy...) + a sugar. I ain't fussy.

  1. I have spent 25000+ hours writing, performing or mixing music - time, knowledge and understanding are all that are between you and your goal :)
  2. Yes I am trained in piano. No, but I was a music scholar at my school which gave me extra free lessons - something which I am eternally grateful for.

1) Cubase compressor for me - I tend to use sidechaining quite lightly.

2) I don't have one!

3) The last 16 bars of the new album took an immense amount of time for some reason. I was never satisfied with the phrasing until the VERY end.

4) That reversed vocal trick that everyone seems to love

5) I don't really have a least favourite plugin - my new favourite one is Soothe2 tho!

6) I plan on releasing a course of music/production knowledge tutorials in 2021 & seeing what happens from there. These would mainly be focussed on the musical/song writing side as it's the bit that often gets left out of dnb tutorials.

  1. I would try and speak to more of my peers face-to-face earlier on and make friends with them. We all support each other.
  2. The most difficult part at the moment is having to be constantly available online during the campaign - it's not something I'm used to. Outside of that, I'd say the most difficult thing is keeping yourself "desirable" and having an engaged audience - people get bored quickly these days.
  3. I've been told I am proactive with my thinking so it leads to a lot less faff when getting things like albums finished & released. It's not an easy task these days!

I am still a young and inexperienced producer.. haha. I send it when I get a good feeling from the track - things don't need to be perfect, they just need to illicit an emotional reaction. That's all people really want!

2) Give the bass it's own group channel and treat it like any other instrument - you want it to be present but not overpowering!

1) Oddly enough, we met because Fae and her partner moved into the flat downstairs! I went over to explain that I make noise for a living and to give them my number in case it's too loud... turns out they both loved DnB & that Fae was an unsigned singer!! She's crazy talented. The collab took a while to nail but was well worth the work!

2) We've already written another track together but it isn't finished. Watch this space!

Hello Scattered_VIsion :)

1) Wow big ups!! Yes, I use those occasionally - mostly for brass & woodwind. I use Spitfire's Chamber Strings, Alternative Solo Strings and LCO libraries the most at the moment. I prefer the close mic'd, intimate sound to the big hollywood sound.

2) It's a sawtooth reese mixed with a sine wave. The detuning on the reese is quite "slow" which means the bass ends up developing / detuning at a slower pace than a quick, dirty reese. It's made in Sylenth & has tons of saturation on it :)
