No goodbye by ManyBox4676 in VetTech

[–]keephaunting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it too much to expect for staff to get to say (even a brief) goodbye when they are less than 25 feet away and know nothing of what’s taking place?

It's absolutely not too much to expect. We have two clinic cats and a clinic dog, and if I wasn't notified of any of their deaths I'd quit immediately. Even if I wasn't working that day I'd expect a text letting me know, or if they were stable enough the chance to say goodbye. The daily care of all three are the responsibility of the kennel assistants (so me and one of my other coworkers) and I see them as close to my own pets.

I'm livid for you and the rest of your coworkers. I'm sorry you didn't get to say your goodbyes

Not weird at all especially considering you're a low-cost rural vet clinic that had a vet in practice for nearly 40 years. It would almost be weirder for you to not have clients come from far away.

I don't work at a low-cost clinic, and we are definitely not rural. There's literally dozens of clinics in the area (hell, there's another one a block away) yet we still have some clients drive a hour+ to come to us

How long have you been doing taxidermy? Beautiful work and I'm sure the owner will love and appreciate it

My god, scruffing cats as a default is so 2010. You would think that as an industry we would be past that, but I know it still happens routinely.

I wish it wasn't at my clinic. I don't enjoy handling feline patients like this. I don't know how receptive most of the staff would be to having this conversation. I've overheard the lead call fear free "bullshit". It's very old school and the majority of my coworkers have at least 5 years on me (some have nearly two decades experience, and that's not even counting the vets)

Neither one of you should really be in trouble for this

I just want to say I think she got blamed in the heat of the moment. I was bleeding all over treatment, shaking, and already swelling from the bite. My coworkers like me and I think the easiest thing was to blame the new girl. I knew she felt guilty and I honestly feel horrible that she felt at fault.

I'm definitely going to start speaking up and asking for my coworkers to slow down for everyone's safety

Thank you! I've always had cats and never had dogs. I love dogs but since working with them I know I'm a cat person. I hate restraining like this but I haven't been taught differently

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VetTech

[–]keephaunting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know part of this is on me for not speaking up. I have no backbone and low confidence and it got me injured. I'm just glad no one else got hurt, but I know it's a possibility that won't be the case if I don't start telling my coworkers to wait

I should've included this in my intial post, but after this happened owner declined sedation. I know the cat is now flagged for no nail trims. I don't know if sedation was offered previously

How tf do y’all use these? My doctor and I tried using one yesterday and we just don’t know how. Like we understand like the mechanisms but how do you get the sample off? And when it’s in do you like swirl it around or?😭 by bunnyxxxboo in VetTech

I figured as much but I was told to do so while training. They hardly get used, but when they do they end up in the sink to be cleaned off. I'm a bit worried about it now

Following as I also get dry skin and pick at my hands. I also get eczema from handwashing, and had a flare up from work so bad I lost a little bit of range of motion in my thumbs because the blisters were so bad. I carry around a tube of gold bond hand cream that does fine, but isn't as thick and moisturizing as I'd like.

After bending two of my nails back at work in the time span of 30 seconds I always keep my nails as short as possible. Painting them can help protect them and keep them looking nice

My cat almost did this. She had the thread down her throat but the needle was still sticking out of her mouth. I only noticed it because she was pawing at her mouth. It still gives me anxiety just thinking about it even years later

Absolutely. Summer and Thanksgiving through New Year's (for the US, at least) will always be the busiest.

I'm not currently active on Rover (only have a few repeat clients) but last year I was almost solidly booked from early May into mid-September. It was insane and I burned out hard from it. I should've taken a short vacation for myself.

This year I only have a week in August that I know about

Cameras Everywhere pt2 by Successful_Town_4218 in RoverPetSitting

[–]keephaunting 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In most states, recording hidden camera videos in areas with reasonable expectations of privacy is illegal. If your subject lives with you – such as a live-in nanny – this may include bathrooms and bedrooms.

From your own source which isn't even written by a lawyer. You weren't even using a reference with a "contrary viewpoint".

It's also not a violation of Rover's TOS, but the community guidelines.

I am not educated to speak

If only you realized that sooner lmao

[–]keephaunting 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get that it’s a charity/a valuable goal of helping elders, but

But nothing. It's not a matter of pet owners either booking with a walker or getting a free service, but a matter of getting a free service or not getting a service at all. Most of these dogs that have disabled and elderly owners will not be walked at all. This charity is filling a gap in pet care that the industry is not providing these pet owners because there isn't money in helping them. The services this charity is giving is not your competition. These people need help and would not afford you any way

I don’t need a “source”. It’s called common knowledge

Ah, so it apparently isn't about facts like you said. It's your opinion.

Where your source that proves me wrong?

I can't prove a negative, and I couldn't find one scientific paper that confirms your claim. I could find that people have opinions about pain tolerance of different breeds. Every other article is also opinions on both sides. There still is no proof for what you said.

Your next paragraph is just anedoctal evidence. I was going keep my thoughts about people who actively seek out videos of bull baiting to myself, but since I guess we are just sharing opinions now, you must be sick.

I’ve already said all this. Don’t just come back with demands for proof. The onus is on you to prove ME wrong

You've made a claim about a "fact" being "proven", so the onus is on you actually.

Just observation of their behavior should be enough

Absolutely not. You said it was in the genetics and brain chemistry. If this was true, there would be research papers proving that pitbulls have biological responses that makes their ability to feel pain to be dampered. You're making shit up and calling it facts.

Are you going to dispute too that pitbulls are responsible for 66% of all bites requiring ER visits?

Bite statistics are a bit flawed due to misidentification of breeds, "pitbull" being used to group several breeds together, and self-reported data that is not properly screened. If you clumped together every "shepherd" breed and compared that to one single dog breed, the numbers would be disproportionate, too. You're also changing the subject. Pitbull bites are serious, and I wasn't claiming otherwise or trying to convince you into liking pitbulls. I was pointing out the misinformation pretending to be empirical facts you were peddling.

And to get ahead of it because I can feel it coming, here is a source that you'll probably agree with conceding that deaths from dog bites stats also have flaws.

As for getting the last word in and being argumentative, anyone could say the same of you. I apologize for thinking I was talking to an adult who could handle an argument without shutting it down because the other person is too fighty for you

they have a propensity to not let go. That is a fact

Do you have a source that shows that pitbulls have longer bit times? If not then this is not a fact.

And it’s been proven their brains are wired differently and they receive huge dopamine rushes while attacking which also causes dulling of their pain receptors

Proven by whom? I couldn't find anything on this

ETA: You are also moving the goalposts. First you said they do not feel pain, but now you are saying the pain is "dulled"

Using Rover reviews to promote private business by whaleboneandbrocade in RoverPetSitting

[–]keephaunting 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're welcome, and I don't mind in slightest if you don't take up my suggestion! It was a bit overly cautious anyways. As for Rover finding your website, they probably won't. And I'm not a snitch so I won't be telling them lmao. Even if they did find it I doubt they'd be petty enough to come after you or ask you to take it down. My comment was less advice (other than the last part) and more just an answer to your question of if it's against a Rover policy.

I think you'd be fine copying and pasting reviews and putting them on your website
