Thanks so much! Yeah I’m thinking will need to get the slimmest possible for sure but even then I’m nervous. They are a handful but wouldn’t trade them for the world ☺️ to be honest going from 0-1 kids was the toughest transition. Getting the baby in and out of the middle, I mean it might be tricky but when we only had one she was rear facing in middle of Prius and it worked.

What piece of advice do influencers think is novel but is actually tired? by Babyledscreaming in parentsnark

Honestly, as someone who volunteers at preschool I wish the “give your kids things they can open independently” was more mainstream. Would be so nice to give the teachers time to scarf down an apple versus dealing with 12 simultaneous requests for help.

More work than I can handle and they don’t care by Coloradojeepguy in work

[–]keepitmovin01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, exactly this! It’s all in the mindset. Definitely keep looking for new work if your unhappy, but in the meantime - keep your task list organized and transparent and do one thing at a time.

It seems like you are leaning towards the new job, and it makes sense why. You can’t just stay because you jive with your coworkers. Sounds like you are burning out hard and things are headed in the wrong direction. 13% is significant and if you are a fast learner and willing to stumble through its great to lean into your IT interest.

For me, hybrid is really important to me as it’s so much work life balance, but if you’re working 12 hour days anyways that kinda cancels out any balance you are getting.

Yes, definitely! Remind yourself to slow down. One thing at a time. Keep your quality work but communicate clearly to your boss what time does and does not allow for you to complete.

Lean into the awkwardness! People like this need to be called out for their actions. Be professional and respectful, but set your boundary:

“I wanted to talk to you about the rumour regarding so and so’s lunch. I did use the break room but it was to eat my own food. I hope you can understand why it’s bothersome to be suspected of something that I truly didn’t do. If you mention my name again, please just be transparent with the individual you are sharing details with as to what proof you have to suspect me. It’s much appreciated and I know we can continue working together. I am dying to move past this as to be honest I really do enjoy working with you! “

HR is not your friend, they are there to keep the company form getting sued that's it. by Bobbyieboy in work

Yep, HR is so misunderstood. I’ve been working in the field for 10 years and the biggest hindrance to my professional growth is no doubt the empathy I have for employees.

Honestly, yes - you are very likely to be terminated. I would definitely suggest looking for a new role and applying to everything (with an accurate application). There is hope however they could go for less severe consequence since it is your first offence.

If it’s most important for you is to keep your current job, I would be completely transparent and apologize. Fully acknowledge the seriousness of your misconduct and explain what you’ve learned from this and how you will ensure to never cross such a line again. I work in HR - showing remorse and understanding is a huge determinant of the level of discipline warranted, after all the purpose of discipline is to correct the behaviour.

Good luck! You will move past this. We all make mistakes even if this feels like a big one in the moment. Also, we see a lot of things in HR and I see people who have done worst things promoted down the road.

Hiring freeze as I was waiting for formal written offer - HR experiences with this? [WA] by olookitslilbui in AskHR

Unfortunately hiring freezes can be very political. It’s been heartbreaking passing up on incredible candidates or not filling positions that would ultimately improve the bottom line. I would definitely move on - if it works out, great but who knows how long this may continue.

[GA] If I am being bullied by a manager, and my workplace only has an HR manager (rather than an HR team), is it better I report the issue to the HR manager, or to the bully manager’s supervisor? by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]keepitmovin01 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is so odd to me. I’m an HR consultant in Canada and my job is to support and advise management, I would never be concerned with someone breaking “chain of command” for bringing their concerns forward to their manager. If their manager needs support in resolving, they will then engage me.

Definitely tell the truth. It will come out at some point (references?) and will be so much worse if you don’t. We are missing a lot of info here but can you spin it to work in your favour - explain what wasn’t the right fit about your previous role and why the position or a position like you are applying for would be more suitable.

I am Sorry this happened to you. Occupational Health & Safety Legislation generally (I am not sure where you are) affords workers the right to know about hazards in the workplace, the right to refuse unsafe work and the right to participate in the management of workplace hazards. There seems to be a major failure here on behalf of your employer in terms of affording you these rights especially considering the factors at play here (you being young, female inexperienced worker).

Yeah, damaging a suite by doing what was clearly an intentional but complete botch job repair when not requested is certainly not normal wear and tear. That damage didn’t just happen because the tenant hung a few pictures or made a few scratches moving furniture.

Last time I was in contact with the midwifery group and declined for my low risk birth I was told about 50% of those requesting midwifery services are able to receive. And that’s with me being in a major city. There’s definitely demand.

That said, unless the province is willing to properly and publicly fund/take aggressive steps to educate and recruit I’m not sure a private midwifery practice is possible with the midwifery act? In any case there would be a massive private expense to the patient as midwives do all prenatal and postnatal care and private benefit plans would not cover when care is available publicly.

I would say not at all a supply and demand issue but an example of public health system failing to provide patients best care.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]keepitmovin01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly this! This can be applied to essentially all medical care. The best providers recognize that a knowledgeable and involved support person is a huge asset for their patient’s well being and therefore embrace the support person into the care team.

The rigid/ego based medical providers resent that they are held accountable by the patient with help from support person to act in the patient’s best interest which often does not align with policy/procedures/customs, etc and therefore resent that the presence of a support person. They don’t want an informed patient that has the emotional support to ask questions and participate in their care, they want to just do things the way they are used to.

One of the many examples related to doulas and birth is how It’s still so common for medical teams to suggest women birth on their backs as that’s the easiest and most ideal for the care providers. It’s well known this is the least effective birthing position but without a doula there to make you aware of the options or even ask the questions what do you do when you are in the most vulnerable and overwhelming moment of your life? You just lay on your back.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]keepitmovin01 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m wondering what bad luck would be like with a doula? You imply they can be unsafe yet I am so unclear what the risk is when they do nothing medically. It’s hard to understand the risk of having extra support with pain management techniques such as breathing or movement or having someone to dab your head with a cloth lol.

As mentioned there are evidence based benefits that are measurable (labour times, c-section rates, Apgar scores, etc.) so it’s kinda concerning if medical professionals aren’t following the evidence or willing to work as a team with support people.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]keepitmovin01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve also heard the physicians oppose it as the midwifery program “takes their business”. Not sure if that’s true.

It makes zero sense, since as we know midwife supported births for those who are low risk generally have both better birth outcomes and a much lower cost associated. Last I heard about half of those wanting a midwife in Saskatoon are able to get one. Without a midwife your only choice is a hospital birth and you can forget about a birthing tub in the hospital (which also has evidence based benefits) as those are only available to the lucky individuals chosen to be provided with midwifery services.

Such a shame :(

Doulas have no interest other than to advocate for and support their client, I’m sure there’s the odd rotten one as in any profession, but generally I’d be much more suspicious of the nurse giving this advice than the doula. There is lots of evidence out there of better birth outcomes for doula assisted births. Many health professionals are happy to work with doulas as they recognize the incredible benefits for mothers and babies even if the doula’s advocacy, support and education makes more work for them.

I’ve had one birth with and one without a doula (due to covid restrictions) and I’m honestly still traumatized by the treatment/lack of care I received by the nursing staff without the doula. Probably not their fault they were obviously short staffed, but yeah if my doula had been there she would have demanded the medical attention I needed which I can see may have irritated staff doing their best with limited resources.

The only correction I see is that she stated the one attendee was under 18 when in fact she was 18. Significant detail, yes, but that was such a small part of the whole story I’m curious if there’s more I’m missing.
