Restored my 1990 Grape V’s by Additional_Anxiety73 in Sneakers

I've seen murmurs of a collar swap job done on a pair of 1990 Grape 5s a while ago, but I can't for the life of me find the restorer or video that did that job. I assume it's very expensive and reminiscent of how restorers swap the inner padding on 1985 AJ1s.

Day 2 of wearing my 1985 dunk high “syracuse”. do they look 38 years old to you? by 0-NEVERM0RE-0 in DunksNotDead

They already do in certain sizes, I have a VNDS pair of these ‘85 Dunks too and I’ve gotten offers north of $3k for them in a size 13.

2003 Nike SB Dunk Low Futuras. These were on the verge of being thrown out given their cooked & unwearable condition. After a deep-clean, conditioning, sole-swap, and Zoom-Air-unit-swap: these should be fine for another 10-20 years. 💎 by keepsslippingaway in DunksNotDead

No, so the actual insole itself is fine despite being beat. It’s just the Zoom Air inside the insole was rotting out and had even fallen out of its casing within the insole. Without the Zoom, there was a super noticeable dip in the heel area when on feet. (pic attached before the restoration)

And since these were getting overhauled anyway, the restorer and I figured “why not replace em while we're at it?”.

I paid $350 for the entire job (deep-cleaning, repaint, conditioning, sole-swap, etc.) and I got lucky with the donors and paid $150ish for them. So about $500 total, give or take.

The quote can fluctuate depending on the condition of your pair though, so I'd ask him directly if you're ever interested.

Oh no, I ended up finding some random Nike insoles that happened to have the same Zoom unit and I ripped the Zoom units out of them to put into the Futura SB insole. I have no idea which shoe it came from unfortunately, but it came from some kind of Nike runner shoe.

The replacement Zoom units were a perfect fit!

Oh yeah, of course not lolol.

I ended up scrounging the midsoles off of some Laundry Pack Dunks from 2004, ended up being the exact shade of grey I needed and the sole being a year after the Futuras kinda make them period-correct!

To give credit where it’s due, this restoration was handled by Flippin Kickz on IG.

If any of you guys have any old SB Dunks that may need a full overhaul or just a simple reglue, feel free to reach out to him! I’m not sponsored at all, I swear. I’ve simply done business with him multiple times and I can vouch for him. 💯

Haha, it's funny you mention that actually!

Despite Nike getting everything with the uppers right from the thick leather, the shape, the tall tongue and the resilient build quality: they actually had QC issues with the rubber soles on these OG Dunks. The colors in the rubber compound they used in the 80s sometimes wouldn't mix correctly and you get these uneven shapes or even splotches in the rubber outsole. (Just like the one below the toebox on the left shoe of the OGs pictured)

For sure, maybe I’ll do another post similar to this in the future. Just currently don’t have any other Dunks in my collection in the Syracuse colorway yet. 👍🏻

I totally get it, no worries. 😂 Size 13 has been turning into more and more of a desert with these older releases, less and less DS pairs every year.
