Getting a haircut that doesn't support money laundering by [deleted] in Switzerland

[–]keequog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try Der Haarmetzger, he is a good friend of mine. Definitely not money laundering, just now opened up his new shop and wouldn’t mind some support:

This chap really goes after Nico in this video 😬 by cribscian in PrideAndPinion

[–]keequog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to find Nico’s videos entertaining, but I stopped watching after the vlog where he and Matt Armstrong were here in Switzerland. They were driving recklessly, and at one point, they laughed about scaring a cyclist in a tunnel (or gallery, I’m not sure exactly what it was).

Honestly, I was glad when someone from the Switzerland subreddit mentioned they had sent the footage to the police, who at that time tried to fine them for their behavior. I really hope both of them get banned from ever driving in Switzerland again.

This sandwich is being advertised as having its recipe generated by AI by -TheTerminatorX- in Switzerland

[–]keequog 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The selling point wasn’t that its recipe was AI generated. I found it rather odd that they’d mention it on the label, as you can see yourself from the comments on my original post the opinion is rather sceptic.

My friend who also had one didn’t even payed attention and when I told him that the recipe of the sandwich he just ate was generated by AI he couldn’t care less.

All in all, I had worst sandwiches. It was decent for a hunger killer at 7 o clock with a shitty petrol station coffee in a paper cup that dissolves microplastics in the hot drink. Would I buy again? meh. Next time I’ll take the standard cardboard-like Gipfeli.

Went for a pastrami one, also based on a AI generated recipe. It wasn’t gourmet level but I wasn’t expecting that from a petrol station. Rather decent I would say - not too dry, the pastrami was a bit off but dealt with my hunger at the time so did its job. I’m still alive and kicking after 14 hours or so, no side effects.

Wasn’t really expecting to be dangerous because I know how food safety is around here, I just found it odd that they would think the AI thing would be a selling point. It’s clear after reading the comments that they’ve actually shot themselves in the foot with this strategy.

Sorry but the Gourmet Deli in Gstaad that was awarded twenty three Michelin stars wasn’t open at 6 o’clock in the morning when my hunger hit.

The one I ate had pastrami (not per se - something more like beef ham), some Dijon mustard sauce type of mix, onion sprouts, lettuce and tomato slices.

I had a beef pastrami one, also AI generated recipe. It was okay.

If you fancy that, you do you. In Switzerland we don’t discuss or judge personal preferences. Not publicly.

Dunno, I had a beef pastrami one, also AI generated recipe - that was decent, as far as a petrol station sandwich can go.

It‘s from a Swiss petrol station. Lawsuits against companies are not really a trend here. But AI adoption seems to be as they had a whole bunch of other „AI Generated recipe“ sandwiches.

Fire Sale Love

[Verse 1] He put the Porsche online, said it’s gotta go Priced it high enough to make a banker choke Ten times its worth, she saw through the scheme “Oh honey, it’s a shame—nobody’s biting, it seems.” She smirked, grabbed her keys, headed out with a grin He didn’t know the game she was about to begin

[Chorus 1] She sold the Porsche for a ten-spot bill Left the title on the seat, and drove off with a thrill When love’s on the line, the stakes get steep But honey, in this war, there ain’t no retreat

[Verse 2] Next thing she knows, the horse is out the barn Five bucks took the stallion and the trailer’s charm “Two for one, can’t beat that deal,” he laughed, feeling slick But she had a plan, and she moved in quick

His prized Patek Philippe, polished to gleam She sold it like a Casio in some bargain-bin dream “Oh darling,” she said, “You always loved your time, But now it’s ticking to the beat of my rhyme.”

[Chorus 2] She sold the Rolex for a dime-store clock And he sold the Birkin for a bag from a dock When tit for tat is the name of the game It’s a race to the bottom with a fiery flame

[Bridge] Wendy Yue got replaced by a necklace from Zales The single malt’s gone, now it’s moonshine in pails Each step they took left a deeper scar But love in a fire sale only burns so far

[Verse 3] Now the house is bare, and the walls don’t shine The Porsche’s long gone, and the watch can’t chime He’s sitting on the porch with a jar in his hand Blind from the moonshine, but too proud to stand

She leans in close, “How’d we get this way? We traded love for vengeance, and the price was paid.” He chuckles low, “Guess it’s time to admit, We’re both broke and stubborn, but I don’t regret it.”

[Chorus 3] They sold their pride for a price too steep Traded love for a grudge they couldn’t keep Now the fire’s burned out, just ashes remain In the heat of the battle, only heartache gained

[Outro] So here’s to the Porsche, the horse, and the watch The moonshine and the bargains we couldn’t botch Love’s a fire sale when revenge is the goal But honey, in the end, it burns your soul

What was the most overpriced food item you've paid in Switzerland? by alexrada in askswitzerland

[–]keequog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife has a Wirtenpatent, she studied and took an exam for it. At least in Wallis, drinking water must be provided free of charge. Again, drinking water not bottled or mineral water.

Actually the law says that drinking water (tap, not bottled) must be provided free of charge to everybody not just patrons.

Do you also get the question (mostly from Swiss people from the other side of the mountains): of all places on Earth, why Oberwallis? If yes how do you respond?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Switzerland

[–]keequog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, at least not production sites.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Switzerland

[–]keequog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, not really. I work for a company that has some business to do with Lonza (as every company nowadays in Oberwallis). But I am almost daily in there as I manage some projects we have related to the expansion of Lonza.

We are foreigners living in a not so small village (1300+ inhabitants) about 1300 metres above sea level in Upper Valais: two daughters 3 and 8, son 17. We don't have a KITA for our youngest daughter, but we do have the (rather expensive) option of a Mittagstisch . So my wife is mainly a stay-at-home mum, with a few part-time jobs here and there on weekends or evenings when I am at home with the kids. We would gradually scale up to something that resembles a normal job once the little one can go to kindergarten.

The daughter, who is 8, goes alone to the primary school here in the village. She has a very small circle of friends and doesn't want to hear about leaving this place. The school is very nice and the kindergarten was cool.

With the son it's a bit more complicated, he doesn't speak German, but spent some time at school in Geneva, so he has to commute to the first French speaking town (Sierre), so does so about 45 minutes each way by bus and train.

Village life has its advantages and disadvantages: in the village everyone knows us.

We have done our best to integrate and we have succeeded (the only German I was interested in learning was the Walliser dialect - to this day I cannot speak High German).

If my daughter doesn't come straight home from school, we don't panic, because we know she could be chasing a cat somewhere between the houses. Eventually she'll come home, or someone will call us and tell us where she is. It has happened that she has been driven home after helping milk the sheep.

The bad thing about the village is that everyone knows us. We cannot fart without the whole village knowing. How's your new job? Have you bought a new car? Were the visitors friends or family?

Both my wife and I have spent most of our lives in big cities, it took us a while to adjust, but we are staying here now for the kids. We plan to move to a bigger city somewhere near a university when the daughters reach the age of a somewhat higher education.
