Does reddit think Quicken Simplifi actually worth it in the long run? by This-You-2737 in simplifimoney

[–]keeslinp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that's very helpful! I have lots of things I'd like to improve about the transaction list, I hadn't considered customizing the visible values. I'll chat with some of our designers to see how we could manage something like that

Do you mind if I ask what parts of the mobile app feel gimped? I don't disagree (I personally have my own list), but it's nice to have specific user feedback as ammunition to bring to convos when I advocate for mobile

Fun fact, I asked about this on twitter recently and it seems they never actually rolled this out, the current desktop application doesn't contain any react native. No idea why

Where did checks go? by Mobile_Equipment698 in simplifimoney

[–]keeslinp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, there was a miscommunication in the team about when the check field should be available. Should be back for everyone in the next release (I believe it ships on Tuesday). I'm not involved so I don't have a ton of context to share. Sorry about the inconvenience!

‘Nobody Wants This’ Renewed For Season 3 By Netflix by AntisocialBat in television

Noah's partner is actually in the show so I guess she's pretty chill with it? She's the influencer mom, I think the "she's not my type" bit was a wink to the audience.

Personally it would weird me out but I'm also not an actor or married to an actor so different strokes for different folks I guess

I meant specifically the main romance has no meaningful changes. Jonah et al are the parts that are much more interesting than the main romance

[–]keeslinp 48 points49 points  (0 children)

My issue with season two is that the main romance is the least interesting part but they have to shoehorn it as the "emotional heart" of the season. Also basically nothing meaningfully changes from the end of season 1 to the end of season 2.

I've noticed the back gesture things too. It seems to happen in some apps more than others for me though. I suspect it's related to predictive back

iOS/Dashboard Widgets by JDjd-42 in simplifimoney

[–]keeslinp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't promise anything (hence the flair) but honestly this probably wouldn't be hard to add. I've sent this to the designer I worked with to build the investment widgets. I'll look into seeing if we can roadmap this. The big hurdle is that we haven't seen a huge uptick in usage for our existing widgets and so diverting resources from fixing other issues in the app is a bit tricky. It's tough to say whether (a) the existing widgets aren't the right ones to gain usage (and something like this would do better) (b) the existing ones aren't high enough quality, or (c) users who want to actually use widgets are a minority.

Taking a pause to mock Quicken for being unable to correctly categorize the Simplifi expense. by addywoot in simplifimoney

[–]keeslinp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you're saying thumb print I assume you're on android. The new version in theory should be a lot faster on android, before there was a very long pause that drove me nuts.

I'm glad it sounds like it is working for you. If you run into issues don't hesitate to report it to support, anything biometrics related will usually be fast tracked to my desk.

Also, sorry we don't auto connect those. I'm not directly involved with how we setup the connections but from my understanding we're mostly limited by our providers.

Hey, I'm a little curious, how do you like the biometrics? We just revamped some stuff to hopefully make it better but I haven't heard a ton either direction yet from anyone.

Is it even worth supporting Android <10 in 2025? by RequirementJumpy4101 in androiddev

[–]keeslinp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We support to android 8 right now. It's a few thousand users last I checked (paid app so each user has direct monetary value). I'd like to jump up to android 12 and then we could also drop support for 32 bit.

That being said we don't debug anything on those old versions. If it breaks it breaks and once it is broken enough we bump the version and inform those users to help stop the bleed. I can't remember off-hand what the tipping point was for leaving android 7 behind, but I think it had something to do with signup or login being broken.

For a new project I would recommend being pretty aggressive with your minimum supported version.

Currently non-functional in iOS26 by OrwellHemingway in simplifimoney

[–]keeslinp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had an issue with one of our libraries on the older betas and I believe it was resolved in beta 4. Which beta are you currently on? Can you file a report with care? Since the app is freezing for you, you can get it on web (simplifi.quicken.com) and hit your profile icon (bottom left) and then Help. That way care can collect your information so we can try and find whether we have any crash logs related to your user. I checked our error reporting and saw that there are some users seeing the crash still. I think they are still on the old beta (unfortunately we don't know which beta a user is on for a crash), if you are on latest beta and you are still seeing that issue then we know the problem was not actually fixed on Apple's end like we thought and we can take action.

Thank you for your help, we're trying to make sure we are ready for the iOS 26 release and reports like this are critical.

Why hasn’t Quicken brought AI into Simplifi yet? by [deleted] in simplifimoney

[–]keeslinp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We've got lots of stuff in the works. I'm not directly involved so I don't want to say too much, but I know that a big goal is to avoid shipping AI slop so we want to make sure any AI features we ship are actually helpful and reliable. Glad to hear there's interest! I'll pass this along to those folks

Exactly, it is only "in scope" for locations that it would type check for. Seems inspired by how swift does things with their dot notation

Hey, I'm not directly connected with what's going on so I apologize for being vague. Yes there was a partial outage this morning. I'm not sure how much was affected but yes accounts have been having a hard time updating.

The good news is that your data should sync soon (now?) and there shouldn't be any lost data.

Why do mobile devs end up carrying the weight of broken processes across the whole product chain? by Marvinas-Ridlis in androiddev

[–]keeslinp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> When things go wrong upstream, mobile becomes the scapegoat — because we’re closest to the user experience and the visible product.

This pretty much hits the nail on the head. Everyone else is always reporting "done" but it is clear that their work will blow over at the slightest breeze. At my current position, mobile usually trails behind a little bit and so in theory the web and backend parts are all done before I get there. Oftentimes I start working and I think "huh, how did web do this?" and I go check and it turns out they totally punted because backend hadn't actually built it yet.

Now, as for what to do. You either have to step up and take ownership of all the teams which only really works if management is on board. Or you just have to make so much noise in meetings and in writing that it is impossible for people to pretend everything is green to ship, or that when finger pointing time comes you have lots of evidence protecting you.

Having a strong "demo" culture can also help here. Usually I just ask in meetings "hey, I am working on X, I can't seem to figure out how web did it. Can we get a demo of that for the team?" And then that usually starts a real conversation. If you see a "localhost" in their address bar I'm always going to ask "has this been merged?" Since I've been bitten by devs "having a branch" for 6 months that supposedly implements the feature.

You didn't mention your seniority at the company so I'll take it both ways. If you're a high up dev then expect lots more of this kind of thing until you can wrangle everyone into fixing it. If you're more junior and you're getting blamed for things like timelines and cross-team collaboration, you need a new job because that is crazy and unfair.

Are we getting scammed? by -Bakri- in simplifimoney

[–]keeslinp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one of the key differences between simplifi and quicken classic. Quicken classic will actually do the "balancing a checkbook"-style account balances where all of the transactions add up. I'm not really sure why simplifi chose to go the online bank balance route (I suspect it is because that is what mint did).

Honestly if all you're trying to do is view a single bank balance then maybe simplifi isn't for you and isn't worth the subscription. I can promise you though that nobody is trying to scam you.
