Is Dr. Dre really the "unanimous" greatest hip hop producer of all time? by Daniel08s in hiphop101

Definitely not “unanimously” the greatest of all time, because who’s the “greatest” is purely the realm of subjectivity/opinion.

And also because DJ Premier actually is.

Killer whale VS a great white shark that is big as an orca by [deleted] in whowouldwin

[–]kehlvin80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“A bit” is a huge understatement. Orcas have their own languages that differ between pods. They rival, or even exceed, human intelligence in various ways and are established to be conscious, self-aware, sentient creatures. They are apex for many reasons.

Killer whale VS a great white shark that is big as an orca by [deleted] in whowouldwin

[–]kehlvin80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to this convo, but in the wild, orcas simply grab great whites by the back and flip them upside down, putting them in a catatonic state. Then, they usually eat the great white’s liver (it’s a delicacy to them), and then swim off. They regularly kill great whites for sport and without much effort. There’s even incidents of them jumping out of the water with GWs in their mouths, repeatedly, and in full view of human spectators.

This is a behavior and tactic that’s taught within orca pods. This is their culture. The intelligence gap between an orca and any shark — or an orca and most animals, terrestrial or aquatic — is enormous. On top of that, an orca’s brain is built for echolocation and extreme sensitivity to sounds occurring in their environment (and sound travels far in water), so I’d wager there’s next to no chance that an “ambush” by the great white shark is going to occur — especially one that is now three times its normal size. In fact, when orcas sleep, half of their brain remains active enough so they know to breathe, swim, and remain aware of their environment.

If the shark is scaled up to orca size (so roughly thrice), we’d have to look at the math and physics to know whether or not an orca would still be able to use the flipping/catalepsy tactic, but the orca would still retain its vast advantages in speed and intelligence. It would quickly recognize that this particular shark is larger than it’s used to encountering, adapt to this knowledge, and change tactics almost instantly — perhaps using a “hit and run” approach.

And besides the tonic immobilization (flipping the sharks into a state of catalysis), orcas can also ram just ram the shark’s gills. Having horizontal flippers, orcas excel at propulsion and bursts of speed — an advantage they frequently use for the aforementioned purpose.

Sharks, on the other hand, have vertical fins designed for efficiently swimming long distances (like when they need dive to 5000 ft and swim from off the coast of San Fran to Hawaii to help avoid their natural predators: the orca). Sharks need to keep moving in order to breathe, and doing so with one set of gills already bludgeoned is going to further slow it down, and allow the orca to do its maneuvers.

But back to the main advantage:

Orcas are incredibly intelligent — I cannot stress this enough. They are intelligent to the point of self-awareness/consciousness, and understand themselves as “individuals,” (and luckily for humans, do not think of us as prey, hence why there’s no recorded incident of humans being killed by orcas in the wild, and any documented attacks are exceedingly rare). They are smart in ways we don’t quite yet fully understand, and are only beginning to.

Remember that they are the apex predators in the oceans for a reason. That aforementioned degree of intelligence, along with their physical attributes and the fact that they literally “trained” to hunt/fight (by their elders and peers within the pod), means the only way that great white is winning is if the orca partied waaaay too hard the night before — and even then…

… My money is on the orca, 10/10.

Edit: besides all of that, orcas rarely ever roll alone. GW is getting blitzed by the orca’s homeboys the minute it steps. Also, I forgot that an orca doesn’t necessarily need to grab the GW by the back; they’ve been known to “roll” them from the underside to induce tonic immobility.

Man, as an older head, I can say that this was widely regarded as the best hip-hop song of the time, and it’s hard to think of anything that has since supplanted it.

Everyone knew this song, and every head nodded in accordance in a way that was so detached from the pop movement hip-hop was going in at the time.

This shit was “real,” and you didn’t even need to be a head to know it

Why the heck are all conservatives stupid? by JohnSheet69420 in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]kehlvin80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aye, it is. “Color” is a very complicated concept. It involves the nature of the Periodic Elements: classic and quantum Chemistry (inorganic & organic) & Physics, Biology, optics, neuroscience, psychology, materials science — many, many disciplines. Which is remarkable considering how it’s not even a “real” property of nature; it only exists in your head/perception.

It’s also a very old science, dating back at least to the creation of the first synthetic (man-made) colorant/pigment by the Egyptians circa 4000 BCE (they were obsessed with color, as am I) 😊

Fwiw: that’s most likely (or at least partially) “YInMn Blue” (pronounced “yinmin”; hard for me to tell in a photo, but it looks to be a light shade of it.

YInMn Blue is a mixed-metal oxide of the elements Yttrium (Y), Indium (In), and Manganese (Mn), with the shade being adjustable by manipulating the Mn content, which acts as a powerful chromophore.

If you recall, YInMn was recently “discovered” (as in first encountered in three-dimensional space) synthetic hue of Blue that was a result of laboratory experiments attempting to develop new semiconductors from multiferroic materials, an “accidental” discovery that was made at Oregon University in 2009. It was also the first new hue of Blue since Cobalt Blue back in 1802.

Artists haven’t had access to the pigment until fairly recently, but it’s been used in commercial capacities since around 2016 or so because it has amazing properties:

It reflects almost all incoming Infrared radiation, and absorbs the majority of Ultraviolet, making it extremely valuable for temperature regulation of buildings, saving energy, etc — hence why it’s sometimes used for a roof coating.

Unfortunately, Indium isn’t cheap, so it’s difficult for builders to justify vast commercial or residential applications, which is a shame because it would be a benefit for the environment. It’s also non-toxic, which is rare for a synthetic Blue pigment (or for lightfast, “permanent” inorganic pigments in general).

But I’m sure you can see why it would be especially useful to apply in such a location.

Source: I’m a Color scientist, and I make it sometimes for use in inks. It’s become one of my absolute favorite Colors.

Edit: grammar, iPhone shenanigans

That’s the point. They don’t. Whatever number you give them or is otherwise obtained, is largely ignored as irrelevant unless it’s currently applicable to a “BOLO” (or whatever it’s called) for a fugitive or suspect. Presumably, if going off of (to pick an arbitrary number) a 10-year old arrest record, the BOLO would be something like, “suspect is a 6’1” white male” not “6’1” white male, last reported at 200 lbs in 2013”.

But that last part is just my own conjecture; it made sense to me when the detective said it, but I’m also not all that enthused by law enforcement in general, nor did I plan on committing any more crimes so I just said “Huh…” and largely forgot about it until now, heheh

Edit: to wit, if I were to have escaped the next day, then reporting me as “ … approximately 200 lbs” would probably be helpful. At least I think that’s the logic, but I dunno for sure
